On Oct 23, Dr. Victor Fung from Fung Group,

invited by SME, CUHK-Shenzhen, gave a

lecture on the topic of the digital supply chain

and the era of trade disruptions. As a century-

old firm in the Chinese society, Li & Fung is

one of the largest supply chain and logistics

management companies in Hong Kong.

Analysis and Policy Outlook on U.S. Economy

in October 2019

The latest data published in Oct shows that U.S.

industrial production is rather lackluster, but in

general, the economy is increasing steadily. The

inflation of the U.S. in Sep and healthy job

market and family confidence are beneficial for

the economic growth in the future. As the long-

dated interest rate is rising, the inverted yield

curve of the U.S. Treasury goes moderately,

which restores investors’ confidence in the

financial market. In the presence of the sluggish

real economy of the U.S. and slowdown of the

global economy, it is predicted that the Federal

Reserve will cut the interest rate by 25% again.

As the trade friction between China and the U.S.

is easing temporarily and the Black Friday is

approaching, the Fed may signal that the future

cut will be delayed. Read More

SME Prof. Jianmin Jia Appointed as Effie

Greater China Board Member

The Effie Award in Greater China drew a

successful conclusion on Sep 21 and 22.

Prof. Jianmin Jia, presidential chair

professor of CUHK-Shenzhen SME, was

appointed as board member. Prof. Jia said

that on this platform, we could exchange

more opinions on China’s marketing and

promote the interaction between academic

SME Students in the 2019 NHH

International Case Competition in Norway

The Team of Jiali Wang, Wenxin Li, Qi Hong

and Miao Li spent five days for the NHH Case

Competition in Norway. In the company of Dr.

Lingjing Zhan, they arrived at Bergen Norway

on Oct 16. After the fierce competition, our

team lost to the competitor by a small margin,

but their outstanding performance still

impressed the judges deeply. Read More

enrolment list of 2019 outstanding

undergraduates in summer camp. 204

students received offers of full-time Master

Programmes of 2020 academic year in

advance. About 63% of these students come

from 985 project universities, 31% from 211

project universities, 1% from overseas

universities and 4% from others. The students

The annual Forbes 30 Under 30 list aims to

highlight and celebrate young entrepreneurs

and leaders who are contributing to their

industries and making an impact in China. Xin

Wang, one of alumni of Master in Finance of

Series | Xianchun Xu: China Should Seize The

New Economy Opportunity to Influence

International Statistical Standards Formulation

The 12th session of SFI Distinguished Lecture

Series was held on Oct 19. From the macro

and micro views, Xianchun Xu, former vice

director of National Bureau of Statistics and

distinguished professor of SFI, elaborated on

the features of the development of new

economy in China. He also proposed the policy

suggestions and thoughts on how China should

seize the opportunity to gain more influence on

international statistical standards formulation.

Finance in China was held in Shenzhen on Oct

21, in which the Advisory Committee of Energy

Markets and Energy Finance Lab at SFI was

officially established. Prof. Junhua Zhao, co-

director of the Lab, said that during the process

of the construction of the pilot demonstration

area of socialism with Chinese characteristics,

the Lab would take forward the reform of the

energy market and the research of green

finance and sustainable finance.

and Modeling

CDC specially invited Mr. Guoqing Xu, president

Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Financial

Forum announced the results of 2019 Best

Financial Paper. Prof. Dan Li and Jinfan

respectively. The secretariat received 110

pieces of paper in total. The experts invited by

the organization reviewed those anonymized

papers and finally selected five first prizes,

eleven second prizes, twenty-two third prizes,
