Sri Lanka Tea Production for the month of June 2021 amounted to 25.94 Mn/Kg, vis-à-vis 27.36 Mn/Kg in 2020. (- 1.42 Mn/Kg). Cumulative for the month of June 2021 recorded 161.49 Mn/Kg, vis-à-vis 130.47 Mn/Kg in 2020. (+31.02 Mn/Kg)

Elevation wise analysis shows that for the month of June 2021 Low Grown shows an increase of +0.04 Mn/Kg whilst High and Medium Growns recorded a decrease of -1.45 Mn/Kg and -0.01 Mn/Kg respectively when compared to the same period last year.

CTC’s recorded 2.09 Mn/Kg for the month of June 2021 vis-à-vis 2.33 Mn/Kg for the same period last year. (- 0.25 Mn/Kg)

CROP AND WEATHER (FOR THE PERIOD 12TH – 18TH JULY, 2021)

The Western planting districts including Nuwara Eliyas reported bright mornings with scattered evening showers. The Department of Meteorology forecasts heavy showers with strong winds in the Nuwara Eliya region in the coming week.

The Uva district experienced sunny mornings with scattered evening showers whilst the Udapussellawa’s reported clear mornings followed by overcast evenings throughout the week

The Low grown region had bright mornings with scattered evening showers. Heavy showers are expected in the Ruhuna and Sabaragumwa regions in the week ahead. Westerns and Nuwara Eliyas recorded a slight decline in crop whilst the Uva/Udapussellawa and Low grown districts maintained.

HIGH GROWN TEAS BOP

Select Best and Best Westerns eased by Rs 20-30 per kg and more. Brighter Below best sorts declined by Rs 10-20 per kg whilst the balance together with the plainer varieties were firm. Nuwara Eliya’s were irregularly lower on quality. Better Udapussellawa’s shed Rs 20 per kg whilst the balance were firm on last. Uva’s maintained in general.

BOPF

A few very best Westerns appreciated by Rs 50 per kg whilst the others gained to a lesser extent. Brighter sorts in the Below best category were dearer by Rs 30-50 per kg and more whilst the balance together with the plainer varieties were irregular. Nuwara Eliya’s followed a similar trend to their BOP counterparts. Better Udapussellawa’s were irregular whilst the rest together with the Uva’s maintained.

MEDIUM GROWN TEAS

BOP Well-made sorts maintained whilst the balance declined by Rs 20-30 per kg.

BOPF Eased in general.

OP/OPA Well-made varieties gained Rs 10-20 per kg whilst the balance were firm to marginally dearer.

PEKOE/PEKOE1 PEK In general declined by Rs 10-20 per kg and more. Well-made PEK1 declined substantially whilst the balance advanced Rs 10 per kg.

FBOP/FBOPF1 FBOP in general were lower; FF1 too declined by Rs 10-20 per kg.

CTC

HIGH GROWN BP1 irregular. PF1 Better sorts gained Rs 20 per kg. Balance barely steady.

MEDIUM GROWN BP1 Declined by Rs 10-20 per kg. PF1 similar to their BP1 counterpart.

LOW GROWN

BP1 Better sorts gained Rs 20 per kg. Balance irregular. PF1 - Better sorts were dearer by Rs10 per kg whilst the balance were irregular.

PEKOE/PEKOE1 Select best together with the improved bolder varieties maintained. The balance eased where quality was not maintained particularly the mixed varieties.

FBOP/FBOP1 Select best firm to marginally easier. Best together with the cleaner Below best gained whilst the balance maintained. FBOP1s were firm in general.
