Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Sustainable Polymer Industry through Research Innovation & Training (SPIRIT)at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune 1. Brief Note on The Project work: The Center of Excellence (CoE-SPIRIT) at CSIR- NCL was established with the purpose of (a) undertaking cutting edge fundamental research to support technology development programs that are aligned with the national agenda, (b) providing research and scientific services to the polymer and petrochemicals industry, and (c) offering focused training programs for industry personnel, as well as opportunities to enable industry personnel to spend some time at CSIR-NCL and for CSIR-NCL scientists to visit industry. 2. Advantages of Project Work: a. Under the Research & Scientific Services Program (RSSP) of the CoE- SPIRIT, fundamental research was carried out on development of new polymer grades for industry, DFT simulations of polymerization catalysts, development of novel catalysts for specialty polymers including metastable ultra-high mol. wt. polyethylene, novel bio-based and biodegradable star telechelic poly lactic acid (PLA) b. Under the Learning & Sharing Program (LSP) of CoE-SPIRIT, numerous advanced training programs in polymer sciences and affiliated areas have been conducted wherein training has been provided to to more than 500 UG/PG students and industrial participants from more than thirty academic institutions and more than twenty industries. 3. Agreements made with following for technology transfer/ commercialization of the technology: NIL 4. Publications on the Project: 22 (Please see annexure-1) 5. Details of Patents granted for the project: 3 (Please see annexure-1) 6. Equipment/ Machines available at CoE: a. High-temp. Gel Permeation Chromatography (HT-GPC): Malvern Viscotek make (USA) b.
