This will help students in familiarizing with the practical aspects of the industry and the corporate sector. The corporate companies are built on well-developed networks which produce measurable business results such as faster learning, quicker response to needs, better problem solving, new ideas and innovations. CIL is responsible not only for arranging internships and placements for students, but also facilitating the corporate sector’s investment in the new technology smart campus of NUST at H-12. In addition, it is focusing to establish long term relations with the industry. CIL assists the students in finding mentors for career counseling, in these connection industrial visits, mentoring sessions, grooming sessions, employer sessions, job fairs, recruitment drives, induction of students in corporate and business plan competitions and guest speakers’ sessions are regularly arranged at NBS. Internship is an essential part of the curriculum and serves as an important purpose in imparting practical experience as well as an insight into the working of the organization. Realizing the importance of the internship, NBS incorporated a six to eight week’s mandatory internship in its MBA, BBA and BS Economics programs. Under the umbrella of NUST Business School, Centre for Industrial Linkages (CIL) is a centre of

To meet the demands of the job market, CIL links academia and industry via effective linkages. CIL

arranges and facilitates campus drives for different organizations to hire and interact with talented

graduates. Job opportunities are posted on different alumni and student networks on a daily basis in close

coordination with leading multinational and national companies. Since establishment of NBS more than

1200 Alumni have passed out and a good majority is employed at the leading organizations of Pakistan.

Unilever Management Trainee and

Summer Internship Program 2012

A team of Unilever Pakistan headed by

Mr. Hammad Mozaffar, HR Business

Manager Islamabad visited NBS on 13th

Feb, 2012 for Management Trainee &

Summer Internship Program 2012. After

the presentation, a test of 65 mins was

conducted by Unilever’s team.

Approximately 80 students from NBS who

registered online and were shortlisted by

Unilever appeared in the test.

A Visit to Rawalpindi Floor & General Mills

A group of five students of MBS/BBA from NBS paid an industrial visit to Rawalpindi Flour and

General Mills Rawalpindi organized by Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) on 22 Feb,

2012. The students observed different activities at Rawalpindi Flour and General Mills

Rawalpindi and then submitted a report which follows details the process undertaken at the

Rawalpindi Flour & General Mills. The report attempts initially to detail the process being

undertaken at the mill, along with a brief history of its operations. This is then followed by

comparison with the Sarhad flour Mills to gauge its efficiency. This is finally followed by

recommendations for improvements based upon independent observation of the group members

during the tour.

Alumni Talk Series Lecture by Mobilink Pakistan

NUST has planned series of lectures for the graduating students of NBS under the program

“Alumni Talk Series”. The lectures aimed at giving final year students of various disciplines, a

sneak peak of what life might be like once they enter the corporate world after graduation. The

first lecture of series was delivered by Mobilink Pakistan to the students at NBS on 27 Feb, 2012.

A team consisting of Ms. Ayesha Saleem, Talent

Acquisition Specialist and Mr. Bilal Ahmed, Cost

and Performance Manager of Standard Chartered

Bank visited NBS on 29th Feb, 2012. After the

presentation the team conducted interviews for

Floor Relationship Managers & Financial

Consultants recruitment. Almost 40 students

appeared in the screening interviews by SCB team.

It was such a success that Standard Chartered will

visit the campus again in next month with their

summer internship program.

NBS JOB FAIR - 2012

NUST Business School (NBS) has organized Job Fair-2012 on 18th July, 2012 at NBS Campus

H-12, Islamabad. This mega event was a resounding

success and over 32 companies/organizations

benefited from this opportunity to evaluate and

select quality human resource from this elite

academic institution.

Industry and corporate sector used this

platform to hire and interact with talented

graduates in the disciplines of Business

Administration and Economics fields. The

job fair expo demonstrated how NBS faculty

prepare and groom their students to meet the

demands of the job market.

Dr. Ashfaque H. Khan, Principal & Dean NBS,

welcomed delegates from the industry including top multinational. Dr.

Ashfaque H. Khan highlighted the recent achievements of the NBS students which

include winning of the prestigious Procter & Gamble University Challenge Competition for

second year in a row (2009 & 2010) and winning of the CFA Investment Research Challenge in

Pakistan which enabled them to compete for the Regional Challengeship in Bali, Indonesia on

February 24-25, 2011 and . He said, I am happy to state that the NBS team representing Pakistan

in the Regional Challengeship comprising sixteen teams across the Asian region, managed to

reach to the final round comprising six teams with Thailand emerging as the winners.

Industry representatives from various business ventures set up recruitment booths and interacted

with students. The companies used the occasion to search for prospective employees in various

fields i.e. Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Economics.

then we attended workshops on Egyptian culture, art. Later a

workshop on how to develop our writing skills for blog.

Likewise a photography workshop was also arranged. The we

traveled to Cairo, luxor, Aswaan, Siwa , Dahab,Ras Sadar and

Sinai to develop our blog.

reveal their true self and understand who they are? What employers want from them? What they want

from life and what they can do to achieve their goals?

At the end of workshop the team was greeted by Dr. Ashfaque H. Khan, Dean and Principal NBS and

Ms. Javeria Saleem Coordination officer NBS and exchanged views on mutual interest. Shields were

presented to the member of the SCB team.

Employer Session by Daraz.pk

Daraz.pk, a subsidiary ecommerce business of the German venture capitalist firm called Rocket Internet

has conducted an employer session for the students of 2nd

, 3rd

& 4th year at SEECS. Ms. Aleena Ahmed HR

Manager- Rocket Internet organized the session.

Rocket Internet's first venture in Pakistan is named daraz.pk, which was launched in June of this year and

sells clothes, footwear & accessories to consumers all across Pakistan. It is an online multi brand store

which has all major national and international fashion brands on board.

As part of their marketing campaign, they will be holding a competition “Design a t-shirt for your college"

in leading universities, colleges and schools in Pakistan. The idea is to bring out originality and creativity

from youth, encourage maximum number of students to compete, and appreciate talent in the country.

There will be one winner from each institution who will be awarded a grand prize of Rs. 20,000 after Eid.

The design will also be put up on our website and facebook page to create more awareness about

university and get students excited about donning university merchandise. Once the best design from

institution is decided, Daraz.pk will acknowledge the winner's talent by actually printing their design on t-

shirts, hoodies, seat shirts, caps and other merchandise. They will like the authority to print the best design

on merchandise and sell these items on their website.

Unilever’s Lipton Talent Hunt Competition

Unilever Pakistan has organized its flagship competition “Lipton Talent Hunt” on 17 Sep, 2012 in

SEECS Seminar Hall. The program offer students the opportunity to test the business skills they

have learned and to get a hands-on experience as well as to provide them with internship

opportunities. The students of graduating batches participated in the competition. NUST was

enrolled in this program last year as well and won in both the engineering and business teams.

DISCOVER Kick off Gala

A Kick-Off Gala was held at NBS ground on 25th Sept, 2012 to introduce students to DISCOVER

2012 - Prosperity through Entrepreneurship”. The NUST Centre for Innovation &

Entrepreneurship (CIE), in its ongoing quest to promote Innovation & Entrepreneurship and

ensure maximum participation by students has organized this gala. Students of NBS actively

participated in this event.

The Kick off Gala aims to promote the concept of DISCOVER competition among students at

NUST. It also provides a platform through which faculty and students from universities across the

country are going to compete and transform their ideas into practical business plans and strive to

develop products as well as services in order to ultimately establish business enterprises.

DISCOVER 2012 has been extended not only to all constituent Schools/Colleges/Centers of

NUST, but also to more than 50 universities across Pakistan.

A Workshop on Skills Inventory for the students of 1st & 2

On-Campus Activation for Lipton Talent Hunt Competition

The team of NUST comprising of five teams of NBS students has reached to the second round of the

Lipton Talent Hunt Competition. A total of 250 teams applied from all over Pakistan and NUST team is

now one of the 20 teams to go through to the second round. As competitor of the second round, the team

has organized an on campus activation for Lipton Green Tea on 13 Nov, 2012. On the basis of which

teams will be short listed for the final round to be held in Karachi. The team held a session in seminar hall

and displayed poster and banners of the brand.

Unilever Pakistan is conducting the Lipton Talent Hunt for the third year, in which HEC recognized

universities are participating. The competition revolves around designing a marketing campaign for

Unilever product and having an on-campus implementation of the proposed plan.

Last year, a ream from NUST Business School won the competition and one of the team members was

later offered a job at Unilever. The win brought good name to the university and also provided

employment for students.

Mobilink Student Development Workshop

Mobilink Pakistan conducted Student Development Workshop for the students of NUST in SEECS

seminar hall on 20 November, 2012. A large number of students of NBS and SEECS participated in the

The team of Standard Chartered Bank headed by Ms. Ayesha Saleem, Talent Acquisition Specialist

conducted its Graduate Recruitment Drive at NBS on 19 November, 2012. After the presentation and Q

& A session, an on-line test was conducted in Language Lab of NBS in that 33 registered student of

MBA and BBA final year participated. The students were briefed about various aspects of the test. There

are four tests, abstract, logical, numerical and wave assessment. Students clearing all the four

assessments will get a link to the next stage.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Session

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) organized a session in NBS Seminar Hall for the

students of graduating batches on 25 April, 2012. Mr. Zahid Ali Mubarik, Global Professional in HR

(GPHR) was guest speaker in this session. Mr. Zahid Ali wanted to enable a student forum in NBS where

students can get access to hundreds of professional development opportunities at their desktops plus

250,000 HR professionals located in more then 140 Countries. He also wanted to seek permission for

video conferencing sessions to be arranged in NBS for students.

SNL Pakistan Session

A team of SNL Pakistan conducted a Recruitment/Networking Session for the students of NBS on 24

April, 2012. 33 short listed students of MBA-2K11, MBA-2K10 and BBA-2K8 participated in the session.

SNL Pakistan team comprised of Mr. Abdullah Mateen, HR Executive, Mr. Mikedowd, Executive and Mr.

Musa Khan, Marketing BDO. SNL was very positive about the caliber of NBS students.

NASCON Marketing Plan Competition 2012

NASCON Marketing Plan Competition was held at FAST University, Islamabad on 21 April, 2012. The

team of four students of BS Economics (Waleed Nasir, Muhammad Zohair Javed, Nabeel Ahmed Hashmi,

Sabeeh Rehman) of NBS secured third prize. Participation in such activities helps generating the sense of

competition and leadership among students.

Standard Chartered Bank Internship Drive 2012

A team of Standard Chartered Bank headed by Ms. Ayesha Saleem, Talent Acquisition Specialist given

briefing and conducted test for Standard Chartered Bank internship drive 2012 on 17 April, 2012. Mr.

Bilal Ahmed, Business Client Relation was member of the team. 86 students of 3rd

year applied online and

48 students appeared in the aptitude test and eleven cleared the test.

Engro Foods Session & Internship Drive 2012

Engro Foods Limited conducted test and Interview session at E&ME College, Rawalpindi on 12 April,

2012. 14 students of MBA-2K11 and BS-Economics -2K9 appeared in the test/interview. This time Engro

tested NBS students for internship program and will recruit NBS students in future. Over six interns were

hired by Engro in both Engro foods and fertilizers.

Career counseling session by University of Hertfordshire UK & ABN Overseas Education

University of Hertfordshire UK & ABN Overseas Education organized a Career Counseling session at

NBS on 12 April, 2012. Mr. Akif Khan, Regional Marketing Manager, University of Hertfordshire UK

conducted the session. 36 students of BBA-2K9 attended the session. Students were made familiar to the

processes for studying abroad especially about getting admission in the University of Hertfordshire UK &

ABN.

Nestle Pakistan Employer Session

Nestle Pakistan conducted Employer Session for the students of 3rd

and final year on 10 April, 2012 at

SCEE seminar Hall. The aim of the session was to brief students on how to apply for job/internship at

Nestle. Students applied online for recruitment in Nestle.

NBS Scholarship Program (NASP) donates 0.24

million to the needy students of NBS

NBS Alumni Scholarship (NASP) is an initiative of

NUST Business School Alumni and their friends and

family to support financially challenged students of

NBS. It has been five years since this program is

successfully running. The scholarship is awarded on the

basis of academic excellence; however, financial need

is also taken into consideration. The scholarship is

awarded by the Alumni Committee upon the

recommendation of various members.

During the Fall-2012, NASP and the students of NBS

has donated PKR 240,000 against tuition fee of most

deserving students of NBS. The amount donated in the

semester is higher than the donation made so far. This

time students of NBS along with alumni have launched a

donation drive to generate funds for NASP and they have

donated a lot for raising the funds and helping their friends. Mr. Junaid Khan – President NASP

Rawalpindi Chamber of

Commerce and Industry

(RCCI). The students

representing NUST

were Muhammad Ali (Team

lead NBS), Zarak Babar and

Sandaleen khan (NBS) who

delivered a comprehensive

business plan, “BIOGAS” gas

that is formed by the

biological breakdown and won

the competition. The competition was held at the RCCI and included participants from universities and

colleges from all over Rawalpindi. Mr. Main Ayaz Afzal MD Stock Exchange was the chief guest on the

occasion, RCCI President-Manzar Khurshid Shaikh , Senior Vice President Ch. Pervaiz Ahmed Warriach ,

Vice President Ch. Nadeem Rauf , RCCI Executive Committee Member were among the speakers at the

event. Addressing the participants, the speakers stressed that education was the only answer to the multiple

internal and external problems being faced by the country and urged the students to focus on their studies

as the country was in dire need of novel entrepreneurs and managers.

NUST Participation in the Asia-Pacific International Model United Nations (APMUN)

Conference 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand

A team of nine NUST students, headed by Ms Maria Qadri, President Student Affairs NBS and Sponsor

faculty NUST Drama and Debating Society/ NUMUN 2012, has participated in Asia Pacific International

Model United Nations (APMUN) conference held from 19th to 24th September 2012 in Bangkok

Thailand.

The event was attended by 84 teams in total representing universities from South Asia, Europe and Middle

East. The conference included 17 committees with competitive sessions from 8 in the morning till 10 at

night where students were required to exhibit their diplomacy skills along with extraordinary research and

communication capabilities. Resolutions were drafted in each committee on major world issues discussed

in UN currently. NUST was allotted two countries to represent in this MUN: Finland and Eritrea.

It is a great privilege for our institute and Pakistan, that the team won two out of five outstanding

delegation awards given to top performing teams. Along with this honor, two of our delegates won

individual best delegate awards on the basis of their diplomacy skills in selling their stance. Therefore

NUST team managed to bag for out of the top 15 awards in the conference.

Apart from providing us with a pedestal to showcase our talents, APMUN was also a platform for global

interaction and exposure. Our delegates received invitations from MUN clubs representing India, China,

Germany and Russia. The team also invited other delegations to NIMUN-213.

proven herself. She scored the

and Commerce in O level exams,

and Economics and Business

Studies in AS level. Aleena also

has an artist in her. She was the

head of Art and Décor for FRODOC - a documentary competition at her school Froebel’s International,

designed the logo for Frolympics - the annual spots event at the school, and produced a portfolio on the

Asian culture using mediums like charcoal, watercolor, acrylics and ink pen. She is also goo at sports, and

love table tennis.
