Mr Chin Kean Hwa has been involved in the media business since 1989. His experiences as a journalist for Sin Chew Daily include cover-age of government affairs, education, politics, Chinese organisations, culture, entertainment and sports. He is also a trainer for cadet report-ers and part-time counsellors, a Mandarin and ‘Han Yu Pin Yin” teacher for a language centre, a journalism lecturer for TAIMA Jour-nalism & Information Academy, a writer and an editor for a students’ weekly tabloid and a Mandarin instructor with UTAR.

Mandarin has become one of the major languages in the

world and the influence of China’s economic development has added to its global popularity. The programme is specially designed for par-ticipants with little or no basic in Mandarin. Lessons are based on daily social conversation. Mandarin Basic (Level 1) encompasses spo-ken Mandarin and phonetics with an introduction to ‘Han Yu Pin Yin’.
