Term 2 begins for students on Tuesday 1st May. Parent helpers Thank you to all of our wonderful parent helpers this term, we know not everyone has the time to come and help out. We want to acknowledge those that do as it is of benefit to all of our Tilba children. Thank you to all parents who rearrange their days to drive students to events and excursions, to our special lunch day cooks and gardeners, and those who have taken time to cover books this term. ANZAC Day On April 25th, Anzac Day will be commemorated in Central Tilba. Our students have been invited to take part in the Central Tilba Service on this day, they are asked to wear full school uniform and assemble outside the Dromedary Hotel at 10.45am to be ready to march at 10.55 am. For many years, our students have been an integral part of the march down the main street; we hope to have a large presence of our students at the march. 4/5/6 Class Shout Out This week our class shout out goes to Joey. We acknowledge Joey for his ability to be a good friend, for his sense of humour but most importantly his ability to dance. Thank you Joey! Cross Country Cross-country on Friday was a lot of fun, ribbons will be handed out at the first assembly of term 2. Congratulations to all students for their efforts and a huge thank you to all of our parents and grandparents that came to support children and supervise the track. Ten students went on to participate at the district cross- country carnival: Abigail, Kai, Jordy, Milo, Skye, Cerys, Riley A, Camryn, George, Nash and Bob. Well done to our runners! School Holidays After a fabulous first term of learning, it is time for a break for students and staff. Stay safe everyone and enjoy your holidays!

Our students have been invited to take part in the Central Tilba Service on this day, they are

asked to wear full school uniform and assemble outside the Dromedary Hotel at 10.45am to be ready to march at 10.55 am.

Last Day of Term – Everyday Heroes We are all looking forward to seeing everyone in fancy dress tomorrow and to having a relaxing day of fun and games to end the term. Gold coin donations going to the Tathra RFS, an opportunity for our students to contribute and acknowledge the work of everyday heroes in our community!

Term 2 Excursions Term 2 is going to be busy with a lot of hands on learning opportunities that will see students going out of the school. Keep track of what is going on by using the calendar on the front page of the newsletter or use the calendar on our school website. Please encourage children to hand in notes as soon as possible. This will help to ensure these opportunities occur with minimum fuss.

CTPS Bus News Staff and students are very excited about the new bus as it provides the extra space needed for students on the bus and the added safety of seat belts. Students have been made aware that they must remain seated on the bus with their seat belts on at all times. If bus safety is not followed, after a warning from the bus driver your child may face suspension from bus travel. This consequence is in place to ensure everyone’s safety, so please talk to children about bus safety and we will continue to teach bus safety at school.

With a bigger bus comes an issue of space to allow the bus to enter and depart from the school zone safely. On normal schools days if parents could park on the far side of the gate from the school. This may not be possible on days that we have special events but if we are all aware of the space issue we can work together to minimise risk. On these days we may only be able to have one bus at a time in the bus zone.

K 1 2 3

K123 became the teachers when the 456 children came into our classroom to learn about

Bee- Bots.

Well done to everyone who ran in the CTPS Cross Country.

Nash, Camryn, George and Bob are especially exhausted after also completing the Potato Point course on Monday.

Thanks to

Lee-Anne, Cody’s mum, who attended

CTPS as a student, for sharing her school day

memories with us.

The children enjoyed performing at assembly last week. Well done to Kindergarten for presenting their very first assembly items.

In Maths, we have been collecting data and constructing graphs. Our K12 pet graph shows we keep a range of pets at home - most of them are chooks. When we chose our favourite 3D object, the sphere was the most popular.

Relieving Principal’s Report Week 10 – P&C Meeting

• Newsletters – we have simplified and updated the look of our newsletter this term and continue to commit to distributing the newsletter on a Thursday.

• Facebook Page – the school Facebook page is about promoting a positive image of the school by notifying parents and community about what is going on without posting images of our students.

www.facebook.com/centraltilbapublicschool/

• Regional Swimming Carnival – our small schools relay team did a record swim in Dapto on the 14th March, students and parents have shown a great commitment with training outside of school in the lead up to the state carnival. State carnival for our team in the small schools relay (Peter Dobson Relay) is the 12th April.

• AFL - This term and next term we have taken the opportunity to be involved with AFL, extending that by applying for a Sporting Schools Program grant for term 2. This means that our students get some extra lessons in the lead up to the Paul Kelly Cup.

• Small Schools Knockout Soccer – Entry has been submitted, as entries do not close until 14th April I anticipate that the draw will not be up until the first few weeks in term 2. The first game likely to be in early June.

• Cross Country – during week 8 we were advised that the district carnival is on the 9th April, as this is usually a term 2 event it has meant we have had to bring our own event forward in a hurry, which is why it went ahead this morning with short notice.

• Leadership and Connection to Country Program – our program in partnership with Lynne Thomas and BEEC (Bournda Environmental Education Centre) begins next term with our first activity in week 1. Year 6 will be involved in a Leadership Introductory Workshop and Camp at school, note to go home next week.

• Kitchen Garden – Thanks to Linda and Sandy for their enormous effort, continuing to get our kitchen garden up and running.

• ANZAC Day – we hope to have a gathering of students outside the Dromedary Hotel at 10:45 am on 25th April. Students in uniform ready to march to the Cenotaph, a couple of senior students will be selected to lay a wreath and a senior student to read the Prayer for the Queen. Copies to go home with interested senior students.

• BEEC Creative and Talented Programs – next term we are trialling joining in the creative and talented programs at Bournda. Up to four students are selected to go from stage 2 and 3. It is a big ask of a parent to drive but I think there is a lot to be gained for students.

• Planned Maintenance – we had a painter arrive at school to do planned maintenance which was painting the interior of the old music room. I have been in contact with Kirsten from Asset Management and she has said that at the moment we don’t need to worry about painting.

• School Plan – the draft school plan has been completed and is just waiting for parent feedback, an email with an attached copy of the plan and a link to a Survey Monkey has been sent out today.

• External Validation – we have been selected to undergo external validation this year with our panel meeting set for 25th September.

• School Play – as a result of external validation staff need to consider minimising activity in term 3.
