Year ones topic is Our Family Tree. The displays in their classrooms have family
pictures on the walls!
They are also doing a holiday bag about what they would take for a picnic on the
beach. Then in maths they are adding single digit numbers together and working
harder and harder each day it seems to me.
They also have a Terrific Tigerbehaviour chart. They start on the sunevery day.
There is a cloud, rainbow, starand tiger. If they get to the tigerthen they get the
tigerfor the weekend and they write in a book given to them to say what they did
with him/her. However only two people out of each class will get it at any one time
which means they need to work hard!
In literacy they are writing a story about The Run-Away Chapatti!and in phonics
they have been doing sound phrases like oo ee oo ea ea! They have been working
on it from the second week onward. They are also creating stories with pictures but
no writing!! As part of their topic have also been growing cress in a box, working ontheir own!

For this term, year twos topic is Big Wide World. They have been doing a lot of work
and have been very busy. The teachers, Miss Neal and Miss Talbot say they have a
lot of work to do.
Enjoyable EnglishWe have interviewed the teachers of year two
and they said they have linked their topic into
the normal subjects. In literacy they have done
reports on different countries in the world.
Connie Wigglesworth said she was working on
a report with Logan and they chose Australia
because it is a big country. They had to do a
lot of research that meant Miss Neal had to
book the ICT suite and the laptops a lot. Year
2 isnt going on a trip but we asked where theywould like to go on a school trip, most of them
wanted to go to the Museum or the Wildlife
Park to see animals from other countries.
We have been talking to the teachers and they
told us that the pupils have been working hard
and have chosen a few people who they think
have been trying really hard in their work and
we interviewed them. Briar Swift has been working hard in story writing and above is
an example.
In Crimson they have been writing stories about getting out of a plane and landing in
an imaginary land. Miss Talbot, the teacher of Crimson class, has had a lot of good
work but she chose Briars because she thinks she has thought a lot about what she
was writing.

and learning about them. They have been looking at maps to locate the countries
they have been learning about.
mazing artIn art they are drawing different places from
around the world and famous landmarks.
Grace Jones has drawn a picture of Bulgaria.
Here is the amazing picture.
So year 2 has been busy working all term,
thinking hard about different countries.
Hopefully they have learnt where the
countries are on a map. We hope thisinformation will be remembered.

At the moment year three have been studying Spain. One of the projects they have
been doing are some leaflets about the fascinating country. They have included
pictures and information to make the leaflets the best in the class. Their
parents will be coming in to pick which one is the best of them all, which
means they are working their absolute hardest to complete
them in time. We asked Madison Crich from one of the
classes what she enjoyed, I liked creating my leaflet and I
hope that it will win the competition.
In maths they have been looking at 2D shapes and their properties. They have been
looking at a specific shape and doing work on it. A lot of the children enjoyed working
on the 2D shapes, but soon they will be studying 3D shapes and their properties.
The teachers in the classes decided to bake shortbread with the children and
decorate them to look like the Spanish flag. They enjoyed this activity because it wasfun to help make such fabulous creations to call their own. Also they made Spanish
food and asked their parents to come in to
school and try them and to see what they
taste like.

Global Gourmet
Year 4 have had a
great time as their
topic (Global
Gourmet) involved
baking and making.
After designing their
cafs their hunger
for baking couldnt
wait, so they went on
a trip to the shops to get ingredients for their caf. We decided to speak to their
class caf manager, Caitlin Mitchell. We asked her a few questions about her topic.
We also spoke to see if she would be going on any trips. She explaned that they
were going on a trip to the supermarket to get food for
their caf, which is being put on, to raise money for anexceptional trip to Austerfield. The chief bakers have
also made some amazing realistic clay models. Im
looking forward to seeing them when theyre done. The
thing about the clay models is that some are places such
as the Eiffel Tower and the leaning tower of Pisa and
others are just food like bread - can you guess why?
Harvest
Mr Houghtons class have been working extremely hard in all of their subjects. And
were eager to show off what they could do at the Harvest festival with their great
singing and poems about harvest time. They sang all of their songs beautifully and
Ebony Walker, Emily Russell, Mischa Allison, Ella McKenna, Luveena Athi and
Martyna Potega sang in front as there was no music to keep us in tune. Many people
brought home grown or bought fresh fruit or vegetables which made a magnificent
display in the hall of baskets and boxes all full. Altogether the money raised by just
year 4 was over whelming and overall the school got over 1000 pieces of food.

Roald Dahl Day
In honour of Roald Dahls birthday (the 13th of September 1916) we had a
celebration of Roald Dahl in school. Each class was given one of Roald Dahls books
and had to create something to do with that book. Year 4 got The Twitsand were
delighted to find they were going be sketching one of the Twits. Mr Twit was a
popular choice but just to top it off they wrote a piece of writing about the Twits. Lots
of exceptional art work has been done and Mr Houghton is very proud of them and is
hoping their show as much interest in next terms topic.
Caf Opening
For year 4s big caf opening they needed to get
some food to cook so they are going to the
supermarket to get what they need on
Wednesday the 16th of October each table is
cooking something different and buying
ingredients with only 7. The question is will they
be able to make 7 stretch far enough questioned
one group and they told me they were going to
make a selection of sauces and tortillas.
Obviously a lot of work has been put in
to this and I recommend if you didnt
come this year, please come next, this
has been a challenge but the childrenhave been great.
Halloween
Here is a topic everyone has been waiting for - the Halloween disco. Many people
are coming just to see what has been ghouling on without Mrs Booler. Year 4 as I
understand are entering a Morrisons competition to make the scariest Morisonsever but with all wanting to be spooktacularwho will be the trick or treatking or
queen. Year 4 are very excited because there were rumours that there will be a bag
of sweets for every one plus a best dressed prize for a boy and girl.
Well as you can see year 4 is an exciting place, we were really sorry we couldnt
cover every event but as you can see there were so many. We tried to cover as
much as we could, this is it for now from us, we will keep you updated on the latest
year 4 news and updates.

wesome Bonfire NightRaising awareness is a really important thing on bonfire night, it can be enjoyable but
precautions need to be taken..
Bonfire night can be a really mesmerising event. Some people will light beautifulfireworks around their home or some people will travel to see a display. Whichever
way, there can still be dangers. Make sure you let a parent or guardian actually ignite
the fireworks, while you watch the fantastic show.
As long as you accept this guide, you will happily enjoy the 5thof November.
Bonfire guidelines
Don't give sparklers to children under the age of five Place sparklers in water or sand when they are
finished
Stand well back from lit fireworks
Always supervise children around fireworks
Never go near a firework that has been lit even if it
hasn't gone off - it could still explode!

Year 5 are currently learning about nature, where things live and how they
adapt/survive in that environment. For example what creature would live in
Antarctica and what is a habitat? Also in maths they are learning about shapes, likewhat shapes are called and vertices, also what makes a shape a shape? They have
been making adverts about James and the Giant Peach.
In French, year five are working on their spoken French, like practising their basic
words and building up to harder words. They are working on their French numbers, 1
to 10 and maybe even working on their higher numbers if they can. They have also
been learning about food and writing French menus.
Year 5 has also been reading the story James and the Giant Peach by Roahl Dahl,
and in literacy making radio adverts using persuasive speech to get people to comeand see how big the peach is.
In maths they have been learning about shape names like, trapezium, parallelogram,
etc. and have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes - their areas and perimeters.
Year 5 went to Whitemoore Lakes for 3 days, Monalisa from Y5 said the best bit for
her was being away for a few days, but the worst bit for her was jumping into the
freezing cold lake. They went rock climbing, rope climbing, canoeing and abseiling.
Monalisas favourite activity was canoeing because she was going around in a circle
when they were supposed to be doing a race.

Year 6s topic has been Scream Machines. Even though the year has not finished it
looks like lots of fun! Poems, trips, designing, technology, writing, everything! I have
interviewed five people and three out of five enjoyed the Alton Towers visit. The two
that didnt enjoy the trip enjoyed thedesigning more! The poems looked really good!
They were not normal poems, they were haikus. Heres an example:
Flying in the sky,
Superman eating your heart out,
Hero in the clouds.
By Isaac Timms - YR6Red Class
Thats right you guessed it. It goes5 7 5 in syllables!
In technology, Year 6 have been designing rides Mia, Georgina, Kira, Sophie and
Cameron have specially designed a roller-coaster to spin and loop de loop. Theyused motors, tracks, and marbles to represent the cars. Everyone got a sheet to tell
them what to build/design. For example, thirteen people had to build a Ferris wheel
and the other thirteen had to build a crane. So far the topic has been an amazing
journey for the children.
On Tuesday the 24thof September 2013 year 6 went on a school trip to Alton Towers
in Derbyshire. It took 2 long hard hours to get there
but it was worth it.
When they arrived they split into their groups and
they were off to explore. Some of the groups
decided to go to the slow, boring Squirrel Nutty
Ride. The ride was a slow relaxing ride to sit on
and talk.
Spinning madness next! Everyone was heading to the super, fast sonic spin ball.
Lots of people were going on the ride but some were too scared. Mrs Wolsey was

going on her first and she quoted my first and my last. If you are going to go to
Alton Towers Sophie Mitchell gives the advice, always keep your eyes closed or
they might pop out!.
Arrrggghhhh! Most of the groups went to Oblivion but before this they set their eyeson Enterprise. It went upside down and round and round. Owen Fromont from Red
class said it was extra-ordinary and I dont understand how it kept me down! The
Oblivion next! The Oblivion is the ride that has a vertical drop into a hole that
swallows you up and sends you to the middle of the earth! SMILE! Are you brave
enough to go on the Smiler?
Most of the groups were off searching the park
but it was time to eat. The groups had to find abench or a comfy space on the grass. For
dinner the children had to bring their own
packed lunch. Some people brought a lot of
food but some decided not to because they
didnt want to be sick on any of the rides, that
wouldnt be a pleasant surprise.
We could not leave the park without having a water thrill, so we settled on the RiverRapids and clambered onto the ring. As we went round there were huge waves and
you got wet through also some people paid a pound to go on squirters and they
squirted you in the face (mean people!) Kira Swift from Red class phrased what a
thrilling experience! Lets run away with the Run-Away Mine Train. The Run-Away
Mine Train is a medium ride. The ride has sharp corners but was not as fast as the
rollercoasters in Forbidden Valley. The flume is up next! Ascending up and up, drop!
Scream for your life and smile for the camera to capture the memories. If you want to
get wet, then go on the flume.
Thrills and chills is what you will get in Forbidden Valley. There are coaster like
Nemesis and Nemesis sub-terra and more. Unfortunately the Nemesis was closed
due to technical difficulties. The pupils were very disappointed. Even more bad
news-the Nemesis Sub Terror is so scary that there is an age restriction to go on. So
Forbidden Valley was very disappointing although Air was ready to fly. On Air, you
shoot to the sky as if you were flying because you are! You are on your belly with
your legs strapped back and your arms in front like superman.

Fly into the sky on the spectacular Sky Ride. On this ride you are lifted high above
the trees so that you can have a birds eye view of the park. Pass by the Dark Forest
and ride Thirteen and Rita. Then get off at the Charlie and the Chocolate ride. The
rides take you through the story in a boat and then enter the great glass elevator.
Walk along the path and discover the Ice Age 4D experience. Watch one of the iceage films but in 4D!
The day was fabulous however the fun
had to come to an end as the park was
going to close so the pupils of Y6 Red
and Orange class got back on the busand went back to school where their
parents were waiting to collect them.
What a day!!!

School Council have been planning
a lot this half term, and still some
things are to be finished, like getting
ready for the Halloween disco!!!!! on
the 23rd October. Halloween is near
and the Halloween disco is too!
Everybody in KS 2 were invited to
come along.
Making decorations have been a big
part of school council because Ellie
and Elisha have had to make some
for the hall and Miss Fryer has had to buy some! Sadly because there was no DJ,
Miss Bates and some other people from school council have had to organise the
music. At the end of the disco there was a raffle so Ellie and Elisha decorated a box
to pop the tickets in and the prizes for the lucky people to get picked out were
purchased!
For the disco we also needed to get a skeleton ready for the hall, finish all thedecorations and give it to Miss Fryer to then put up in the hall on the day. We will
have a report and photographs in the next issue.
Another upcoming event is Anti
Bullying Week; this is a week where
people will try to understand that
bullying people is wrong.
