Welcome from Wyong Shire Council
Welcome from Gosford City Council
I have now been a Central Coast local for more than 18 months,
and Im constantly reminded how lucky we are to live, work and
play in such a beautiful part of the world.
When Im out and about in the region, I enjoy being able to share
my snapshots on Instagram (@gosfordcitycouncil) and see what
visitors and locals are up to - bushwalking, soaking up the sun,
or celebrating the success of our Mariners at Central Coast
Stadium.
It reminds me that, whether youre a long-time local or a
first-time visitor, theres always something new to explore.
On the weekends, theres nothing better than shopping at the
markets, taking in a show at one of our local theatres, and
spending an evening at a local restaurant or caf.
With so much already on offer and so many great things still to
come, its no wonder that more and more people are discovering
our Central Coast.
My family and I moved from Sydney to the Central Coast four
years ago and we love living here.
We enjoy the stunning natural environment and often visit the
beaches and lakes that are right on our doorstep.
We also love the variety of activities on offer, from having a
Sunday morning brunch at the new cafes and restaurants at
The Entrance, to enjoying the live music and theatre, the active
sporting and recreational opportunities and the chance to
experience nature.
We love the relaxed coastal lifestyle and friendly atmosphere.
Rebecca and I have been particularly impressed by the quality of
schooling and sporting activities available for our two daughters.
Each year the region comes alive with new and enriching
experiences, and I hope you take advantage of these wonderful
activities on your next visit.

The Central Coast by nature is a world of beautiful coastlines, golden beaches, alluring lakes and
vast waterways. This sparkling natural asset, one way or another will become an integral part of
your visit to the region and the core for creating lasting memories. Refresh with a dip in the ocean
at one of the seasonal patrolled beaches, paddle in a rock pool or wipe out at one of the local surf
breaks.
Ferries link selected inlets, lakes and the ocean providing a relaxing way to get around.
During Winter and Spring spot majestic whales migrating along our 85 kms of shoreline.
Page 18 details the local Whale trail vantage points.
Fishing and Boating Dropping a line is popular for beginners and the more serious of anglers. Anglers can try their
luck from the banks of a river, in an estuary, cast out from one of the beaches or board a fishing
charter for a deep sea adventure. N.B. Fishing licences are required in NSW.
Boating enthusiasts are catered for with a number of access ramps scattered around the
waterways. Captain a vessel and navigate the
waterways, or paddle around the shoreline at
your own pace in a kayak, pedal-boat or
on a stand up surfboard.
Always swim between the flags Selected beaches are patrolled

Two million hectares of NSW State Forests are spread
across the state, with some of the best forests located on
the Central Coast.
Forestry Corporation manages NSW State Forests for a
variety of purposes, including recreation and tourism. An
extensive network of roads, fire trails and walking tracks
allow visitors to access a host of exploration and leisure
opportunities, such as mountain biking, horse riding and
bush walking.
Four-wheel-drives and trail bikes are welcome in State
forests, and you can even bring your dog.
When visiting your local State Forest, keep in mind the
roads are unsealed and can be narrow and winding in
places, so its best to drive cautiously and within the 60km
speed limit that applies to all forest roads. Roads can also
become slippery when wet.
State forests offer picnic and camping areas free of
charge. Because of this, sites cannot be pre-booked or
reserved. Day-use-only forests, such as Strickland State
Forest, feature sheltered picnic areas and extensive
walking track networks for you and your family to enjoy.
Theres so much to see and do in NSW State Forests - and best of all, its free.
22 #VisitNSWForests
NB: Dogs are welcomed in all State Forests across NSW.
Caution - many State Forests are adjacent to National Parks where dogs are not permitted.
Olney State Forest
Olney State Forest is a popular recreation area for families
wishing to picnic or camp. Campsites are generous and can
accommodate caravans and trailers. The Pines picnic area is an
iconic site known for its towering pine tree forest.
Olney State Forest is located west of Lake Macquarie, and
is part of the State Forests of the Watagan Mountains. It includes
sections of the Great North Walk.
Ourimbah State Forest
West of Wyong, Ourimbah State Forest is home to the TreeTop
Adventure Park and an extensive mountain biking track managed
by Central Coast Mountain Biking Club.
Ourimbah State Forest is part of the State Forests of the Watagan
Mountains, and includes sections of the Great North Walk.
Strickland State Forest
Strickland State Forest is the Central Coasts best kept secret - an
ecotourism gem with an extensive network of walking tracks for
visitors. Enjoy walking past waterfalls, under cabbage tree palms
and along creeks. This forest has excellent picnic facilities and an
all-weather shelter. Strickland State Forest is day-use only, and
dogs are welcome.

Bell Birds, - Poem by Henry Kendall
www.VisitCentralCoast.com.au 33
Central CoastOUR
By channels of coolness the echoes are calling,
And down the dim gorges I hear the creek falling;
It lives in the mountain where moss and the sedges
Touch with their beauty the banks and the ledges.
Through brakes of the cedar and sycamore bowers
Struggles the light that is love to the flowers.
And, softer than slumber, and sweeter than singing,
The notes of the bell-birds are running and ringing.
The silver-voiced bell-birds, the darlings of day-time!
They sing in September their songs of the May-time;
When shadows wax strong and the thunder-bolts hurtle,
They hide with their fear in the leaves of the myrtle;
When rain and the sunbeams shine mingled together,
They start up like fairies that follow fair weather;
And straightway the hues of their feathers unfolden
Are the green and the purple, the blue and the golden.
Hi my name is Pelican Pete, an Australian Spectacle Pelican
(Pelecanus conspicillatus).
My friends and I are the largest and heaviest flying water
birds in Australia. We live in the waterways of the Central
Coast and come together daily for our afternoon snack. We
love meeting people from all over the world every day.
When will I meet you?
The Central Coast is a natural paradise on the doorstep of
Australias largest city, Sydney.Koalas, wallabies and platypus
all inhabit the local environment. Living and working with
wildlife on the Central Coast is a dream.
I am proud to champion wildlife and environmental
issues through my role at the Australian Reptile Park.I invite
you to come and meet the untamed locals, either in the
wild or at the park.
- Pelican Pete Rain, hail or shine!
Find me at The Entrance every day at 3.30 pm.
- Tim Faulkner Snake Wrangler, Crocodile
Wrestler, passionate conservationist and
GM Australian Reptile Park.
