Annual membersAnnual membersAnnual members’ ’ ’ business meetingbusiness meetingbusiness meeting

Our annual meeting happens the evening of SUNDAY, JANUARY 26. We’ll hear financial and other team reports on our 2013 experience, hold a board election, and then present to a surprised recipient the annual SuperK Award for openhearted greet‐ing of newcomers to our Center. Two members of our board have their terms expiring (Larry Dines and Debra Morwood, though Debra will continue as non‐trustee treasurer), while two others (Alline Dawson and David Ferrier) will each stand for re‐election to a final two‐year term. Two excellent, qualified candidates have presented themselves as candidates for the positions coming open. Come meet them and, if you’re an active member of the Center, cast your vote! The meeting begins at 6PM in the Great Hall; potluck snacks pre‐cede at 5PM. For information on how to become a CLC member, e‐mail [email protected]@[email protected], and for more information on CLC business, e‐mail board president Larry Dines at

Sunday morning meditationsSunday morning meditationsSunday morning meditations “...Sit and rest and refresh your soul. Eat of the fruit and drink the wine.

All, all is yours, and you are welcome.” —The Science of Mind text

It’s led by practitioner Malené Njeri, it lasts for 35 minutes, ending in time to comfortably get into the 11am celebration. There is music to enhance as you are guided into a restful state, and inspirational readings to tap into your spiritual center. Most sessions will end with a spiritual mind treatment based on the theme of the readings. Don’t be concerned about being late.

There is an easy way to quickly get into the flow. Stand a moment outside the door and bring yourself to complete silence. Maintain that silence as you enter. You’ll find yourself suddenly present in the meditation and all is well. SUNDAYS 10:15‐10:50AM, in the Hopkins Room, on the second floor of the Learning Center. For more information, e‐mail Malené at

Remember the story about Beethoven’s final time conducting an orchestra after he was totally deaf? At the end of the performance, the audience rose to its feet, giving a thunderous applause for his composition. Finally, one of the singers stepped

away from the choir to turn him around so he could see the effect that his Ninth Symphony, “Ode to Joy,” had on others. His is but one of many stories of people facing adversity and somehow thriving anyway. Wouldn’t you like some of that —the joy, the passion, the sense of wonder — instead of the New Year’s resolutions that fall away, sometimes with a resounding whack, and leave behind a sense of guilt for abandoning yet another “should.” Practitioner Sharon Mignerey invites you to join her on a 28‐day journey to recapture … or perhaps find for the first time … the passion, the joy, and the wonder in everyday living. Included is a workbook that will provide students with tools and techniques to use for the rest of the year. WEEK 1 ... What’s Right: no matter how wrong “stuff” seems right now? WEEK 2 ... The Compass and the Clock: does it really matter when you arrive if you don’t know where you’re going? WEEK 3 ... The Passion Test: are you motivated or inspired (for Sharon, there’s a huge difference)? WEEK 4 ... Ode to Joy: isn’t that what you’re really looking for — more joy? Four TUESDAYS, 7‐9PM, JANUARY 7‐28. $40 class fee plus a $10 workbook. Minimum enrollment of five. Please sign up in Builders’ Hall or by e‐mail to [email protected]@[email protected]

Buddy Backpack Buddy Backpack Buddy Backpack feeds hungry kidsfeeds hungry kidsfeeds hungry kids

Our commitment to the Montgomery County Food Bank’s Buddy Backpack program is to feed 15 young students every weekend throughout the school year. Last

school year we fed ten. These kids are selected by their schools as hav‐ing this need, and every Friday they go home with a backpack discreetly filled with specially selected food to last them the weekend. They return the empty backpack to school on Monday, and the process repeats itself. Our program co‐coordinators are Carol Stromatt and Alline Daw‐son, with a planning committee of Deb Barnes, Ruth Catalogna, Sean Kenneth Connelly, Jesse Jennings, Marsha Lehman, and Michael Martin. In 2013, CLCers bought, packed and delivered 172 boxes of food — that’s over 3,000 pounds — at a cost of about $400 per delivery, which is made twice monthly. There are several ways you can help: by donating cash or WalMart cards (only ‐‐ no checks, please, or generic gift cards); by working to assemble the food we purchase for delivery to the Food Bank (FRIDAYS, JANUARY 3 and 24, at 1PM); and by assisting on the delivery team to the Food Bank (MONDAYS, JANUARY 6 and 27, at 10:15AM). Please be clear, we do not need you to bring food items. These must be purchased according to a very specific protocol, and we have a team in place to do that. But your donations of cash or WalMart cards are most appreciated. With any questions, or to volunteer to help in any way, please e‐mail

what we dowhat we dowhat we do The CLC Children’s and Youth Ser‐vices Department is devoted to cele‐brating the spiritual development of each child we teach. All age groups are involved in various activities, workshops, and special projects incorporating the teachings of Science of Mind. We strive to create an atmosphere of love and kindness in our words and actions toward each other and to recognize and honor the diversity of every person. ••• Toddlers (up to age 3) are lovingly cared for by our toddler teachers. In their very artistically designed Discov‐ery Room, the children are encour‐aged to interact and experience their world as only a toddler can. They are offered games, toys, books and other age‐appropriate activities in a safe, secure and loving environment. ••• 3‐6 age group. Beginning around the age of 3, our toddlers are moved to the Ingenuity Room. This group begins to learn the basics of Treat‐ment and the value of giving a smile and a kind word. Our creative teach‐ers provide age‐appropriate instruc‐tion and activities. ••• 7‐11 age group are in the Quimby Room. This group regularly practices the steps of Treatment presented in a manner appropriate to their age group. The teachers provide learning tools, creative projects, workshops and other teaching methods to engage each child’s learning of the principles of Science of Mind. ••• 12‐and‐up age group meet on the second floor of the Learning Center in the Hopkins classroom. They are engaged in special projects, work‐shops, have guest speakers and are involved in several volunteer service endeavors at CLC. Our Creative Life practitioners are outstanding spiritual support per‐sons, available to lovingly and confi‐dentially assist you, and are at your service. Each has spent hundreds of hours in training, to direct natural compassion into helping you through listening, caring, and using spiritual mind treatment — affirmative prayer — to reveal the truth of you that is greater than any apparent limitation. Each is licensed by the Centers for Spiritual Living, and engages in ongoing study and spiritual develop‐ment. Have a new goal, an old problem, or a question about apply‐ing our teaching? Work with a practi‐tioner and watch what happens with conscious use of the Law of Mind!

What Practitioners DoWhat Practitioners DoWhat Practitioners Do “It is in this sense that God is the answer to every human need. The Divine Spirit is the knower in us; the Universal Law is the actor. The savior is Christ in us, knowing though us. There is no opposite to this, nothing competes against it, nor can it be monopolized. All of God is everywhere present. The entire possibility of the action and reaction of the Law is ever available. Any result is merely a reflected image, never a thing in itself, always in the realm of effects projected by causes over which the condi‐tions themselves have no control whatsoever. The conditions themselves automatically respond by corresponding.”

—ERNEST HOLMES, from How to Use the Science of Mind How do I know if I need a practitioner? How do I know if I need a practitioner? How do I know if I need a practitioner? In one respect, no one needs a practitioner, because each of us is gifted with the ability to “treat” (pray affirmatively), with results following. Practitioners are a useful spiritual support system for any times when you feel it would be good to get outside your own head for a while and allow another, trusted person to speak the word around a clear idea of your good. Times like these can include when you’re under stress, have a big decision to make, feel fear, are grieving a loss, or are just overwhelmed for the moment by your life. Another useful time, often neglected, is when everything is going just great. Practitioners are happy to treat about continued good in your life, too!
