The instructors’ depth of knowledge and the array of material covered were dizzying! This weeklong workshop was a bootcamp, and all the students (and [) were new recruits!

[ had began the internship liking comics; [ left LOVING COMICS! The passion of the faculty at CCS had lit a fire in me that would never go out.

Back then, CCS was one building-an old department store. My main duty was to help out with ccs’s flagship workshop called...

When I arrived in White River Junction, VT, for a summer internship, my life was about to change FOREVER.

It gives me nothing but joy to pass onto others what CCS instilled in me.

ccs taught me how to build a sustainable artistic practice that allows my creativity and cartooning to be at the center of my life.

this summer things came full circle as [ came to teach the very workshop that made me fall in love with ccs-the create comics workshop.

with a heavy heart [ moved from wrj this past summer. though [ left my job as the lab tech, i’m not gone for good-[ still come back once a week (at least!) to teach.

in the second year of ccs’s program, the students work on a thesis project. each student takes everything they’ve learned about comics and creates the BEST COMIC THEY EVER MADE!

every week, a visiting artist comes to ccs to speak. visitors represent a variety of disciplines, including cartooning, print-making, animation, puppet making, and more. seeing students meet their art heroes in person is amazing.

after two years in the production lab, [ started teaching the publication workshop. it was my great honor to be a full-fledged faculty member. although i had always known ccs instructors were superb cartoonists and teachers, working closely with them revealed how invested they all were in passing along their knowledge and experience.

they’re in the cartooning trenches right there with the students, and they bring a lifetime of experience into every class. as wild and creative as the production lab is, the classroom proved to be even more so.
