Renembering the dead

Christians believed that people who comitted major crimes or sins went straight to hell when they died, where they burned forever. Minor sinners went to Purgatory, where they had to suffer for their sins before going to Heaven.

Catholics in many countries make special food for the dead in the form of skulls, bones, skeletons or even coffins. This food is then left on the grave or members of the family have a picnic near the grave and sing and talk about their dead relatives.

ENGLISH CEMETRY

In Uganda ancestors are buried near the houses and Acholi people go to them to pray before hunting or harvesting, or if there is a problem in the family.

In Japan at the festival of Obon, 27 lanterns are lit to guide the spirits of the ancestors on their annual visit to the family home.

In many parts of Africa, ancestors are considered to be important members of the family, in the same way as living relatives.

In Korea, one traditional ceremony for honouring the dead, known as che-so is forbidden by the Christian church as it breaks the commandments against idol worship and worship of other gods.

THE ENGLISH CEMETERY

The name of the Enlgish Cemetery is St. George Anglican Church. It's located in Pris Avenue 1. The religion is Anglican. The first British Consul in Malaga was William Mark from 1824 until 1838. The protestants in Malaga were buried in the beach.

ENGLISH CEMETRYAt that period the King was Fernando VII. The lenght of the cemery is 8,00 square metres and it has 1,000 graves. Ith as a big number of unusual of trees and plants. It's the oldest church in Spain and classic style. The gatehouse is situated in the entrance on the right. The gardener and the guardian lived in it. Nowadays the president is Bruce McGuire and the vice-president is Rosella Parmiter. Some famous people buried here were Jorgue Guillén, Gerald Brenan, Robert Boyd, Gamel Woolsey and William Mark.

Gerald Brenan (7 april 1894 - 19 january 1987) was British writer and hispanist, an example of his work is ''the face of Spain''

Gamel Woolsey (28 may 1895 – january 1987) was an American poet and novelist.

In the english cemetery there are buried different nacionalities of the people buried like English, Spanish, American, African, Brazilian. The opening times are 9-30 to 14-30. The name of the church is St George and its denomination is Anglican. Gerald Brenan (an american consul) is buried. .

ENGLISH CEMETRY

The General Torrijos was executed at the Playa de San Andrés in 1831 and he was executed for defending freedom and the Constitution. William Mark founded this cemetery. Jorge Guillén ( a writer) is also buried here. In Alfred Cecil Gee's tombstone is written:'' thou hast greated us for theyselves and our heart can't be quantified till it may find responses in thee''.

ÉDITH PIAF

Edith Giovanna Gassion est née, le 19 décembre 1915 à l´hôpital Tenon et non pas, sur une pèlerine de policier, dans la rue de Belleville à Paris.

Pour aider son père (artiste des rues), Edith commence à chanter dans la rue. En 1932 à 17 ans elle tombe enceinte. Mais sa fille Cècelle (Marcelle) meurt en 1935. A 20 ans sa mère l´abandonne, elle se retrouve seule au bord de la déprime, de la drogue et de la prostitution.

ÉDITH PIAF

Louis Leplée, gérant d´un établissement de spectacle, à la mode, lui donne sa première chance et lui trouve son surnom " Piaf " qui signifie moineau à Paris. En 1937 sa carrière démarre. Durant la guerre elle n´a jamais cessé de chanter, de Paris à Berlin. En 1946, elle écrit l´un de ses titres qui feront le tour du monde : La vie en rose.

En 1947 elle embarque pour New York et y rencontre Marlène Dietrich et Marcel Cerdan. Ce dernier deviendra son amant. Malheureusement Cerdan se tue dans un accident d´avion le 22 octobre 1949.

ÉDITH PIAF

Sa vie après Cerdan ne sera plus la même. Son succès international est immense, mais de maladies en accidents, Edith tombe dans la drogue (La Morphine). Début 1959, alors qu´elle triomphe une fois de plus à New York, elle s´effondre sur scène. Elle triomphera encore à l´Olympia en 1961, mais Piaf n´est plus qu´une femme en sursis. Droguée, épuisée, malade, quelques concerts l´achèveront. Elle meurt à Grasse le 10 octobre 1963, mais sa mort est officialisée à Paris le 11 octobre, même jour que le décès de Jean Cocteau, son ami. Elle est enterrée au " Père Lachaise " devant une foule immense.

PÈRE LACHAISE

Le cimetière Père-Lachaise à Paris est un cimetière très cèlebre. Il est situé au vingtième arrondisement à Paris. Il a été construit en 1803 et il a été inagurée en 1804. alexandre Théodore Bronginiart a construit le cimetière. Le cimetière a été reformé en 1824, 1829, 1832, 1842 et 1850. Beaucoupde personnages cèlébres sont lâ.

GENERAL TORRIJOS

José María Torrijos and Uriarte (Madrid, March 20, 1791 - Malaga, December 11, 1831), Count of Torrijos, title that he got after died by the Queen Regent, also known as General Torrijos, was a Spanish liberal military. He fought in the War of Spanish Independence and after the restoration of absolutism by Fernando VII in 1814 participated in the issuance of Juan Van Halen in 1817 who was trying to restore the Constitution of 1812, so he spent two years in prison before being released after the “Riego” pronouncement triumph in 1820.

GENERAL TORRIJOS

He returned to fight the French when the Hundred Thousand Sons of St. Louis invaded Spain to restore the absolute power of Fernando VII and when those victorious ending the Liberal Triennium was exiled to England. They prepared a statement which he led, landing on the coast of Malaga from Gibraltar on December 2, 1831 with sixty men accompanying him, but fell into the trap that had been laid absolutist authorities and were arrested. Nine days later, on December 11, Torrijos and 48 of his friends survivors were shot without a trial on the beach of San Andrés of Málaga.

Cementerio inglés de Málaga, situado en la avenida Pries 1, en pleno corazó n de la bulliciosa y al mismo tiempo apacible y tranquila ciudad de Málaga, nació en el siglo XIX gracias a un có nsul británico llamado William Mark, que se dio cuenta de la imperiosa necesidad de pedir un pedazo de tierra para enterrar a los religiosos ingleses, que abundaban en Málaga en aquel entonces, y cuyos cuerpos eran abandonados a merced de las olas en la playa para que el mar se los llevase. Así, en 1829 nació en el centro de Málaga el cementerio de los ingleses.

LENGUA

Es un lugar muy luminoso y repleto de árboles y vegetació n, y, aunque es un cementerio y lo normal sería pensar que es un lugar triste, es todo lo contrario, transmite una sensació n de tranquilidad, de paz y alegría, es como si las personas que están ahí quisieran que estuvieses feliz al visitarlos. En la entrada se pueden observar una bonita calle que antecede a las primeras tumbas, y tiene a uno de los lados objetos antiguos que hacen recordar la vida de las buenas gentes antes de que llegasen las máquinas para hacer todo más fácil, (o más difícil, según como se mire), y al otro unas preciosas flores de animados colores.

LENGUA

Una vez en el cementerio se puede observar en el flanco derecho una bonita iglesia que le da el nombre al cementerio: La iglesia de St. George. Es un pequeñ o recinto con preciosos cristales de vidrio de distintos colores y con motivos religiosos. Tiene además bonitos bancos de madera con cojines que producían sensaciones de tranquilidad para que los religiosos se sentasen en ellos a orar y estar en paz con sus almas. Además la iglesia poseía un bonito altar para que el cura leyese los sagrados escritos de la Biblia. El cementerio alberga cientos de cuerpos de personas que en vida hicieron grandes cosas, como varios soldados muertos en la primera guerra mundial o el propio có nsul británico.

LENGUA

La parte más triste estaba arriba del todo, y guardaba bajo tierra los cuerpos de unos pobres niñ os de apenas 3 añ os que no pudieron resistir a graves epidemias y resultaron tristemente fallecidos; y esa parte hacía sentir una gran desolació n y tristeza , como si pudieses sentir en tus propias carnes la pena que recorrería cada fibra del ser de su madre y familia cuando ocurrió esa tragedia.

LENGUA

Además había varias flores como amapolas, que según explicaron, eran las únicas que crecían en los campos de batalla, sobreviviendo a toda la destrucción y al tiempo, como los cuerpos de los que allí bajo tierra habitan.

Desde la parte más alta se puede observar un mar tranquilo y en calma, nada que ver con aquel furioso mar que se llevaba sin compasión los cuerpos de aquellas personas para luego devolverlos a la orilla.

LENGUA

Es, pese a todo, un cementerio precioso, muy blanco y luminoso, que como he dicho con anterioridad transmite paz y la sensació n de que realmente hay algo después de la muerte, que la vida es solo un camino y que a su término se halla la verdadera felicidad, tras pasar por este valle de lágrimas.
