9. USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Makesure your extension cord is in good condi-tion. Conductor size should be in accor-dance with the chart below. The amperagerating should be listed on the motor or toolnameplate. An undersized cord will causea drop in line voltage resulting in loss ofpower and overheating. Your extensioncord must also contain a ground wire andplug pin. Always repair or replace exten-sion cords if they become damaged.

Minimum Gauge for Extension Cords

10. WEAR PROPER APPAREL. DO NOTwear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry whichmay get caught in moving parts. Non-slipfootwear is recommended. Wear protec-tive hair covering to contain long hair.

11. ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Alsouse face or dust mask if cutting operationis dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only haveimpact resistant lenses, they are NOTsafety glasses.

12. SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise tohold work when practical. It is safer thanusing your hand and frees both hands tooperate tool.

13. DO NOT OVERREACH. Keep proper foot-ing and balance at all times.

Safety Instructions for Power Tools15. USE RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES.

Consult the instruction manual for recom-mended accessories. The use of improperaccessories may cause risk of injury.

16. REDUCE THE RISK OF UNINTENTION-AL STARTING. On machines with mag-netic contact starting switches there is arisk of starting if the machine is bumped orjarred. Always disconnect from powersource before adjusting or servicing. Makesure switch is in OFF position before recon-necting.

17. MANY WOODWORKING TOOLS CAN“KICKBACK” THE WORKPIECE towardthe operator if not handled properly. Knowwhat conditions can create “kickback” andknow how to avoid them. Read the manualaccompanying the machine thoroughly.

18. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Before fur-ther use of the tool, a guard or other partthat is damaged should be carefullychecked to determine that it will operateproperly and perform its intended function.Check for alignment of moving parts, bind-ing of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other conditions thatmay affect its operation. A guard or otherpart that is damaged should be properlyrepaired or replaced.

19. NEVER LEAVE TOOL RUNNING UNAT-TENDED. TURN POWER OFF. DO NOTleave tool until it comes to a complete stop.

20. NEVER OPERATE A MACHINE WHENTIRED, OR UNDER THE INFLUENCE OFDRUGS OR ALCOHOL. Full mental alert-ness is required at all times when runninga machine.

110V Operation GroundingIn the event of an electrical short, groundingreduces the risk of electric shock by providing apath of least resistance to disperse electric cur-rent. This tool is equipped with a power cord thathas a plug with an equipment-grounding prong. The outlet must be properly installed and ground-ed in accordance with all local codes and ordi-nances.

Amperage DrawThe 1⁄2 HP motor on the Model H5697 will drawthe following amps:

110V Motor Draw ....................................4 Amps

Circuit Breaker RequirementsInstall your machine on a dedicated circuit toreduce the possibility of tripping the circuit break-er. If the circuit breaker frequently trips, have thecircuit inspected by a qualified electrician. Neveruse a larger circuit breaker than stated below, oryou will increase the risk of fire.

Circuit Breaker ............................10 Amp, 1 Pole

Plug TypeThe Model H5697 is supplied with a 5-15 plug, similar to Figure 1.

This machine must have a ground prong inthe plug to help ensure that it is grounded.DO NOT remove ground prong from plug tofit into a two-pronged outlet! If the plug willnot fit the outlet, have the proper outletinstalled by a qualified electrician.

Extension Cords• Make sure the cord is rated Standard Service

V-Belts

Avoid getting grease or oil on the V-belt or pul-leys. Check the V-belt, as part of a monthlyinspection for proper tension and belt condition.Cracking and glazing could result in belt failure.Replace the belt if such conditions appear.

Lubricate your machine with a high-quality multi-purpose grease.

The three main points of lubrication for thecement mixer are the pulley shaft grease fitting, the pinion gear, and the drum shaft grease fittingshown in Figures 26. Note—Apply grease direct-ly to pinion gear.

Cleaning Tips

• Always unplug the cement mixer beforecleaning.

• Avoid getting water on the motor or switchwhile cleaning. If you do, allow the compo-nents to thoroughly dry before plugging in themotor.

• The easiest way to clean the cement mixer isby hosing it out with water.

• Always clean the mixing drum immediatelyafter using it. As a general rule, the sooneryou clean, the easier it will be.

• For tough to remove buildup, use a stiffbrisled brush or a rag to make cleaning eas-ier.

• Small, hardened cement splatters usuallycan be removed by rubbing with a dry rag.

• Hardened cement can be scraped, chiseledor pounded off with a hammer; however, these actions WILL damage the surface areaof the the drum, making it harder to clean inthe future.
