referred to as cement floor coatings.

Cement floor sealers that penetrate into the cement will waterproof, strengthen, and protect your cement floor where as concrete coatings will create a surface layer – protecting the surface of the cement floor but nothing else. When choosing a cement floor sealer, consider the following:

• How often do you have to apply the cement floor sealer? Penetrant sealers are usually lifetime sealers and coatings usually have to be applied every 1-5 years.

• Does the cement floor sealer stop water? Water is in the soil that surrounds your cement floor – so is hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure pushes water from the surrounding soil up through the pores of the concrete. A good cement sealer will fill in the pores and prevent water from penetrating (learn about the Foundation Armor concrete sealer). A surface coating will trap the moisture under the surface of the coating, eventually flaking and peeling.

• Does the cement floor sealer stop moisture and vapors? Some sealers top water but they can’t stop moisture and don’t act as a vapor barrier. Verify your sealer can do all three.

• Does the cement floor sealer strengthen the cement? Overtime, cement will crack – all cement cracks. But if the cement structure is strengthened, the amount of cracks, and possibility or cracks, is greatly reduced if not eliminated. Coatings can’t strengthen concrete because they don’t in any way reacts with or change the cement.

How The Cement Floor Sealer Works

The Foundation Armor concrete sealer penetrates deep into the concrete and reacts with the free calcium and lime naturally found in cement. This reaction forms a crystalline barrier between the pores of the cement. Once dry, the cement is strengthened by up to 45% and water, moisture and vapors can no longer travel in through the pores of the cement.

How To Apply The Cement Floor Sealer

The Foundation Armor concrete sealer can be applied in three easy steps:

1. Clean the surface of the cement.2. Using a garden sprayer, apply two back-to-

back coats of the sealer to the cement floor.3. Let dry 24 hours.

Hardeners & Densifiers

There are several types of hardeners and densifiers on the market. Foundation Armor hardeners and densifiers (Armor S1000, S2000 and L3000) are unique in that in addition to strengthening the concrete by up to 45%, the concrete becomes more resistant to water and moisture, helping to waterproofing the concrete.
