2013 FALL ORIENTATION August 26-30, 2013

Dr. Shelley L. Berger and Dr. Virginia Man-Yee Lee, have been elected as new members to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Shelley Berger was named Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Dustin Brisson was named a 2013 Investigator in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Andria Culbert (GTV) received the Outstanding Poster Award at the Gordon Research Conference: Cartilage Biology and Pathology. Les Diablerets, Switzerland.

Dr. Ishmail Abdus-Saboor (GGR) was awarded the Tom Kadesch Prize in Genetic Research. Dr. David Artis has received the AAI-BD Biosciences Investigator Award for outstanding, early-career research contributions to the field of immunology from the American Association of Immunologists (AAI). Dr. Artis is also the recipient of the Stanley N. Cohen Biomedical Research Award. Dr. Lauren Bayne (GTV) and Dr. Stephan Kadauke (GTV)received the Saul Winegrad Award for Outstanding Dissertation.

Dr. Olena Jacenko has been awarded the Vet Medicine Class of 2016 Lecture Teaching Award. Brian Johnson (GGR) was awarded the 2013 UNCF-Merck Graduate Science Research Fellowship. Dr. Carl H. June has been selected to receive the 2012 Philadelphia Award. Dr. Carl H. June was also honored as a recipient of the American Society of Hematology’s 2012 Ernest Beutler Lecture and Prize. Dr. Mitchell Lazar was elected to serve as a council member, at-large of The Endocrine Society.

Dr. Amita Sehgal received a Senior Scholar Award from the Ellison Medical Foundation. Dr. James Shorter is the recipient of the Michael S. Brown New Investigator Award. Dr. Meera Sundaram received the Jane Glick Graduate Student Teaching Award. Dr. Robert H. Vonderheide is the recipient of the William Osler Patient Oriented Research Award.

Dr. Nicola Mason and Dr. Yvonne Paterson, are the co-recipients of the inaugural One Health Award. Dr. Daniel Rader has been awarded the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Clinical Research Prize. Ali Rosenberg (DSRB) won the 2012 Nachmias Thieman Award. Dr. Anil K. Rustgi is the recipient of the Arthur Asbury Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award.

Joseph Zinski (DSRB) won the 1st place award for his talk at the Mid-Atlantic Society for Developmental Biology meeting at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia.
