Rotary ‘Students ofthe Month’

MMAASSOONN CCIITTYY — Alexand Andi Kaufman,seniors at Mason CityHigh School, have beenselected as the Mason CityNoon Rotary Club’s “Stu-dents of the Month” forNovember. They are thedaughters of Lynn andMary Kaufman.

AAlleexx KKaauuffmmaann has beena Mohawk cheerleader forfour years, a Mohawk

Dancer forthree years,and hasbeen chosenas an All-StateCheerleaderand All-AmericanDancer. She

is also a member of thetennis team which she hasbeen involved with forfour years, and receivedthe MVP award. She is avarsity letter winner in allof the sports she has par-ticipated in.

Her other schoolinvolvements include,Student Senate, Best Bud-dies, and Yield. She is alsovery active in the vocalmusic department whereshe has been a member ofthe Concert Choir,Chorale, Chamber Choir,and Madrigals. She wasalso recently selected as amember of the 2010 IowaAll-State Choir.

Her awards and honorsinclude: Principal’s List,Administrative ChoiceStudent of the Month,National Honor Society,All-Academic award forsports, and she was namedto the 2010 homecomingcourt.

Kaufman’s communityactivities include partici-pating in the Silver CordProgram where she willhave earned 160 hours of

community service bygraduation. She has beeninvolved in performancesat the Community Theatreand volunteered her timebackstage as well. Herother work includes par-ticipating as a volunteerchoreographer, andinvolvement at the GreekOrthodox Church, whereshe helps serve at theannual Greek Festival andsings in the choir.

Kaufman’s plans for thefuture include attending afour-year college whereshe plans to pursue adegree in child’s psycholo-gy.

ate andserves asthe presi-dent. Shehas alsoserved as aone-on-onementor forthree yearsin Best

Buddies and is a memberof the Mason City HighSchool Concert Choirwhere she has been select-ed for the Honor Choir.

She has been a cheer-leader for four years,received a varsity letterand contended at the statecompetition. Kaufmanwas also a member of thestate championship win-ning dance team for threeyears, and has been a ten-nis team member whereshe received a varsity let-ter.

Her awards include:Principal’s List, home-coming queen, Adminis-trative Choice Student ofthe Month her junior andsenior year, NationalHonor Society, All-Acade-mic Award, and hasreceived an athletic letterfor each sport she has par-ticipated in. She was also

recognized for herachievements through theMohawk Moments. Shewas an All-State cheer-leader and an All-Iowadancer for two years.

Kaufman’s communityinvolvement consists ofvolunteering at the GreekOrthodox Church whereshe sings in the choir andworks at the fall dinnerand Greek Festival. Shevolunteers her time at theMason City CommunityTheater where she partici-pated in various plays. Shewas also a volunteerchoreographer for theNewman Catholic cheer-leaders.

Her future plans involveattending a four-year col-lege and pursuing a degreein journalism. Eventuallyshe plans to have a careeras a broadcast journalist.
