Jen Kane’s American Reading Adventure is for children ages 4-12. Join us for the Kickoff on Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30 am. We will read stories about voting and elections to prepare for the upcoming historic presidential election, make red, white, and blue tie-dye shirts, and patriotic pinwheels! Children will be able sign up to read titles from an age appropriate, themed reading list before May 1, 2017. At least one book from each category (Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Biography) must be read. The reading lists are starting points, books not specifically included on the lists will be allowed. Simply write the titles and authors’ names down on the sheet provided with your reading list.
Children who have completed at least 6 titles will be awarded a book from the Jen Kane Collection and become eligible to enter Jen Kane American History Art Contest! In this new contest, children who have successfully completed Jen Kane’s Reading Adventure will choose from their reading what they feel is the single most important event from American History. Was it the Mayflower’s arrival? The ‘Shot Heard Round the World’? The Seneca Falls Convention for Woman’s Rights? Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream Speech on the National Mall? What had the biggest impact on our nation? What was the biggest part of making the United States the Country that it is today? Participants will then be challenged to make their own model, diorama, movie poster, painting, or drawing about that event. Be creative!
The art pieces must be dropped off at the Plymouth Public Library on Thursday, May 11th or Friday, May 12th. Winners will be chosen by popular vote at Jen Kane’s American Reading Adventure Finale Party on Saturday, May 13, 2017. The winning entry from each category will be placed on display at the library for the rest of May for the whole town to see and appreciate.
Jen Kane’s American Reading Adventure has been developed with a donation from the Jen Kane Scholarship and Charitable Trust which provides scholarships, endowments and donations to charitable foundations in memory of Jen Kane, a Plymouth native who lost her life in the World Trade Center on September 11th.

The Fall Family Movie Series Continues
CoralineSaturday, October 8th, at 2 pm 100 Minutes Run Time – Rated PG. An adventurous girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.
Classic Thriller Movie:
The Pit and the PendulumSaturday, October 22nd at 2 pm Edgar Allan Poe’s diabolic classic with Vincent Price 80 min. – 1961 - unratedFrancis Barnard goes to Spain, when he hears his sister Elizabeth has died. Her husband Nicholas Medina, the son of the most brutal torturer of the Spanish Inquisition, tells him she has died of a blood disease, but Francis finds this hard to believe. After some investigating he finds out that it was extreme fear that was fatal to his sister and that she may have been buried alive! Strange things then start to happen in the Medina castle.
Thriller Movie:
The Invasion of the Body SnatchersSunday, October 23rd at 1 pm 80 minutes – 1956 - Rated PGDr Miles Bennell returns to his small town practice to find several of his patients suffering the paranoid delusion that their friends or relatives are impostors. He is initially skeptical, especially when the alleged dopplegängers are able to answer detailed questions about their victim’s lives, but he is eventually persuaded that something odd has happened and is determined to find out what is causing this phenomenon. This film can be seen as a paranoid 1950s warning against the Communists or, conversely, as a metaphor for the tyranny of McCarthyism and has a pro- and epilogue that was forced upon Siegel by the studio to lighten the tone.

Bev is co-owner, with her beloved sister Judith Christine, of Salmon Falls Photography. Bev and her sister spent a happy, adventurous, and sometimes mischievous childhood in the Connecticut River Valley in the little town of Northfield, MA, with most of their time spent outdoors. And that's where some of their best New England childhood memories were made - in Salmon Falls swimming hole in Roaring Brook. As they grew older, they often had cameras in hand to capture the magic of New England. After many years of talking about starting a photography company to share their photos of beautiful New England life with others, a late mid-life awareness inspired the sisters to put pixels to camera and make good on their dream. A professional photographer for over 35 years, Bohl has always pursued his own creative vision through the fine art of photography. Equally enamored with beauty and the bizarre, he continues to seek out images that imbed themselves in the viewer’s mind. Whether symbolic or literal, these images prompt the viewer to ask questions like “how did he do that?” and “what am I looking at” and “where is this anyway?” It is only within the last three years that Bohl has exhibited his fine art images. Through observation and travel he hopes to achieve as much success in the art world as he has in his professional career.
