OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION
Welcome to the Miami County Project Pride Day & Fair Booklet! The Food and Fashion Board assisted in choosing the overall theme for our 4-H events this year, “Celebrating the Growth of 4-H”. Included in this booklet you will find information for all 4-H project areas concerning Project Pride Day, the Miami County Fair, and the Ohio State Fair. PLEASE read carefully. Some items have changed. 4-H advi-sors and other volunteers are asked to please check with your members to ensure that everyone has received this information.
We are looking forward to the upcoming Project Pride Day events which will be held
Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Duke Lundgard Building on the Miami County
Fairgrounds. As part of completion requirements, youth enrolled in 4-H Family

ated at this event. If unable to attend, members are asked to contact the Extension
Office at 440-3945, to register for the make-up dates: July 18, 19, and 20.
We would like to thank the Miami County 4-H Advisory Committee for their sup-port! Fair Passes: For 4-H advisors and 4-H club members 9 years old and older (Fair rules state 8 year olds are admitted free; therefore your 8 year old 4-Hers will not be receiving a fair pass), fair passes will be available begin-ning August 1st – cost for fair passes will be $20.00 for advisors; $2.00 for 4-H members (picked up by one Advisor or designated adult representative per Club). Watch for the July/August 4-H Newsletter for more details. Passes will be distributed only to those clubs that participate in and contribute to the 4-H Barbeque/Fundraiser on July 14th and for all that are in good standing with their club/organization. The Organizational Advisor (or a designated adult rep-resentative) is responsible for picking up the passes for the whole club at the Fairgrounds and distributing them to club members and advisors. Replace-ments must be purchased - so be careful with those passes! Note: Any volunteers or members added after the club enrollment
deadline (the last Friday in March) are not eligible for discounted passes.

Fair Books: Fair books are available to be picked up in the Secretary’s Office at the fair-grounds. They are important because they have schedules and rules. They are good to have around before and during the fair. After the fair, keep your book handy as a reference.
NOTE: Just to clarify, the Extension Office is responsible for 4-H pro-jects. The Miami County Agricultural Society (Senior Fair Board) and Junior Fair Board are responsible for the fair. Any questions related to the rules of the fair can be answered by contacting the Secretary’s office at the fairgrounds (937-335-7492).
Fair Entries: 4-H Projects exhibited in the Duke Lundgard Building do not need to complete an entry form. Jr. Fair Entry Forms are due June 1
st for all Jr. Fair en-
tries (except Market Steers and Heifers). Contact the Mi-ami County Fairgrounds for entry deadline on Open clas-ses. Entry forms are to be taken to the Miami County Fairgrounds Secretary’s Office. No entry forms will be accepted at the Extension Office. All questions must be directed to the Fair Office (335-7492). Projects must remain in place until 6:00 pm on the closing day of the fair. Anyone leaving early without permission from the superintendents will not be permitted to exhibit the following year. Please check your Miami County Fair Book for any other questions related to this policy. Project Booth Clean-up in the Duke Lundgard Building will take place from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm the closing night of the fair, Thursday, August 16th. (Items re-maining at 7:00 pm will be discarded and the club’s future eligibility to display may be jeopardized.)
Note: This year’s theme – “Celebrating the Centennial of Extension: the Po– acknowledges the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Smith-Lever Act, which established the Cooperative Extension Service.

Informational Insert
August 10-16, 2018
Building Information for 2018: All Miami County 4-H FCS and Miscellaneous booths, exhibits, and events will be held in the Duke Lundgard building located on the north end of the Miami County Fairgrounds.
Fair booth Exhibits: Booth space will consist of an 8’ x 8’ space (this is an approximate measurement). Booths will be divided with metal piping and cloth dividers. Booth sidewalls meas-ure 2 1/2 ft. high, while the backdrop measures 8 ft. high. All booth decorations are only to be fastened by using straight or safety pins, fishing line or other wire, etc. to the cloth. Tape of any kind is only permitted on the metal dividers and not the cloth dividers. Staples and glue are not permitted for use anywhere. Damage done to any of the booth dividers (metal or cloth) will be the sole responsibility of the club housing that particular space. All Non-animal 4-H projects should be displayed in the 4-H Club Booths in the Duke Lundgard Building. Only completed projects may be exhibited in Club Booths. ALL booth projects (including those in the Miscellaneous booth) MUST be in place by 5:00 pm, Thursday, August 9th, as the building will be closed for judging at that time. The building will then reopen Friday morning. Decorating may begin by 9:00 am, Wednesday, August 8th. Note: Booths are judged and awarded 1st through 10th place based on incorporation of current Miami County 4-H theme (see page 23). Note: Youth will receive their $1 fair
voucher(s) for entries in their club’s booth from their Organizational Advisor AFTER the 4-H booth has been judged. We will ONLY be giving fair vouchers to those whose projects
are PRESENT at time of judging. To receive credit, please make sure projects are clearly labeled with 4-H member’s name. Fair vouch-ers can be redeemed beginning Saturday, Au-gust 10th at the Secretary’s Office.
Please note that funds to assist clubs with booth decoration will not be avail-able. Historically, funds were provided to fire proof decorating materials—this is no longer necessary. Follow exhibit guidelines listed in the fair book and this booklet. If there are no guidelines, exhibit articles as recommended in the 4-H project book. If no articles are recommended, then members should make a poster, model, or take photo-graphs to illustrate what they have learned.
