NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Due to COVID restrictions in place during July, this celebration is now being held from the 8 – 15 th November. Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to engage with books, songs, art and craft which share insights into the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. Our venues for End of Year Celebration Assemblies have now been confirmed, and you should have received an invite via seesaw, or sent home with your child. Could I ask that people RSVP as quickly as practicable so that we can set up the venues to align with our Covid safety plan. We acknowledge that holding the assembly off site is not ideal, however in order to ensure safety for all, this is the only way we can proceed. If you feel that the alternate venue will potentially pose challenges for yourself or your child, please do not hesitate to contact a member of Senior Staff so that we can assist with potential solutions. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the families who have commenced Pre Kinder sessions at both the Burnie and Devonport Campuses. We look forward to working with you for the remainder of 2020 and having your children join us as students in 2021. The Department of Education recently announced that we would be expanding the Student Assistance

Scheme for 2021.

Parents who have a current concession card as listed below can apply for dependent students for assistance

under the STAS:

• Services Australia – Centrelink Health Care Card

• Service Australia – Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card

• Services Australia – Pensioner Concession Card or

Department of Veteran Affairs – Pensioner Concession Card.

Please note that if you are already receiving student assistance you do not need to complete a form.

For 2021 a new on-line form has been developed to assist with processing applications for new applicants. The online form can be completed here:  https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/

The form will be available for public use from the 10 November.

Once a validated form is completed the Department of Education will confirm the outcome of your

application in writing, this process takes approximately 14 days.

We understand this online option may not be possible for all families, so if you require a hard copy form

please contact your school or [email protected] or 1800 827 055.
