SUMMER 2014

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF LEADERSHIP It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Susan

Keenan, Executive Director of the Roper St. Francis

Foundation. Since her marriage to Neel Keenan four

years ago, Susan has been commuting to and from

Columbia in order to continue her commitment to Roper

St. Francis. This summer she will be moving to Columbia

to be with her husband and family fulltime.

As Executive Director, Susan has led the revitalization of

the Foundation, including securing more than $50 million

in philanthropic support for Roper St. Francis. Under

Susan’s leadership, programs such as the Roper Xavier

Society, the Legacy Circle, Honor a Caregiver and Employee Giving Campaign

were launched to recognize the generosity of our donors and to provide ongoing

philanthropic support for Roper St. Francis. Now in its tenth year, the Roper

Xavier Society has grown to more than 600 members donating $1,000 or more

annually.

We extend our very best wishes and deepest gratitude to Susan for the positive

impact she has had on the Foundation and our healthcare system.

“It has been a pleasure working with our community to advance the mission

of Roper St. Francis through philanthropy. I look forward to seeing how the

generosity of our patients, friends and neighbors will continue to positively

impact Roper St. Francis for many years to come.” – Susan Keenan

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Celebrating a Legacy of Giving In April, the Foundation honored and celebrated the

Charter Members of the Legacy Circle at the home of

Pamela and David Dunlap. We are very grateful for this

special group of visionary Roper St. Francis leaders

who help us fulfill our mission of healing all people with

compassion, faith and excellence.

You Can Support our FutureBy becoming a member of the Legacy Circle, you

can help us impact the future of healthcare in our

community. The Legacy Circle recognizes many types of

donations, including bequests in your will or retirement

plan. A charitable gift annuity is another great way to

give back because it provides a source of income for

you and/or your family. It’s a win-win; while you will

receive guaranteed payments for life, you can also make a

difference in the lives of Roper St. Francis patients.

Sample annuity rates, charitable deduction and tax-free payment for a $25,000 Single Life Gift AnnuityRates are based upon age or ages of the annuitants.

Ray-Duck CupThe Roper St. Francis Foundation would like to thank Geoff

Hawes and the Ray-Duck Cup for their donation to Roper

St. Francis Cancer Care. The Ray-Duck Cup is an annual golf

tournament that raises money in memory of Chris Duckworth

and Geoff’s father, Raymond Hawes. “Dad was an amazing

man,” said Geoff Hawes. “Dr. Daud Nawabi at Roper St. Francis

was not only Dad’s doctor, but a close friend. The care Dad

received from everyone at Roper St. Francis was outstanding.”

A Gift of WellnessThanks to a generous donation from the Angelica Corporation, a new outdoor fitness

area has been added to the campus of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital (BSSF).

Nestled in a shady area along the one mile walking trail on the east side of campus,

the fitness area offers 12 stations, including warm up and cool down stations,

designed to provide a full body workout. Helpful signs demonstrating how to use the

equipment and how to modify the exercises according to varying fitness levels are

located near each station.

“We are excited to have this fitness facility not only for our teammates but for

our community,” said Allen Carroll, CEO, BSSF. “Roper St. Francis believes that

exercising is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and we are grateful to the

Angelica Corporation for making this possible.”
