Question for the Month of Oct

October is the month to specially celebrate the Most Holy Rosary. An Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, and a Glory Be constitute a “decade” of the rosary (coming from the Latin word for “ten”). Five such decades com-prise an entire recitation of the Rosary. Each decade is guided by a Mystery or meditation. Each set of mys-teries allows us to ponder very specific events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, and each set of mysteries holds incredible insights for our own lives today. So this month’s question: How many Mysteries of the Ro-sary are there? For the answer, see page 5.

Father Fred’s

Corner

10/01/19

My dear family of God, thank God another month is here

with us. We are grateful to God for His gracious assistance.

I continue to pray for strength for you all and healing for the

sick among us.

As you can see our construction is moving on smoothly and

I am highly excited about it. I hope you are too. It is just

through our unflinching support that we have come this far

and Our Loving God will see us through to the finishing

point.

I would like to seize this opportunity to thank Romy, his

wife, the Knights of our beloved parish and all the team

that helped to do the fundraiser dinner dance event at the

Gym on Benton Way for the marvelous work they did to

make the event a success. May God bless them and all

who participated in the event. Kudos to you all.

I would also like to thank all those who are participating in

the CHAIR CAMPAIGN to help us get chairs for our new par-

ish center. There are still slots available and I hope you will

purchase them. So far everything looks good. We are also

making a program that will help parishioners and their

friends to own a piece of the build so that their names or

family names would be engraved for perpetual remem-

brance.

Until then stay tuned for more updates. Oboedientia et Pax.

Answer for October’s Quiz

There are currently 20 Mysteries. Here is some history: Until about the 15th century hundreds of different Mysteries

were part of the possible Rosary devotion. Then 15 mysteries were definitively fixed as "the Mysteries of the Ro-

sary" (Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious).

Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, in 2002, added five more, the Luminous Mysteries. That

made twenty Mysteries which are divided into four equal groups, known as The Joyful, The Sorrowful, The Glorious, and

The Luminous Mysteries.

Through the meditations of the complete Rosary (five decades) one recalls and has impressed on one’s mind, what Saint John Paul

II describes as, "the chief mysteries of the Christian religion," "the mysteries of our Redemption," "the great mysteries of Jesus and

His Mother united in joys, sorrows, and triumphs.”

No form of devotion to Mary is more widely practiced among the faithful or found by them to be more satisfyingly complete than the

Rosary, which has come to be regarded as one of the badges of Catholic piety. This devotion to Mary is recited Monday through Fri-

day here at Holy Family following morning Mass or morning prayer. It is also recited (along with other prayers) before each 9:00 am

Mass on Sundays. Please join us.

Here is the breakdown of the 20 Mysteries within the four groups:

The Joyful Mysteries The Sorrowful Mysteries

1 The Annunciation 1 The Agony in the Garden

2 The Visitation 2 The Scourging at the Pillar

3 The Nativity 3 The Crowning With Thorns

4 The Presentation of Jesus 4 The Carrying of the Cross

5 The Finding of Jesus in the Temple 5 The Crucifixion

The Mysteries of Light (Luminous) The Glorious Mysteries

1 The Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan 1 The Resurrection

2 The Wedding Feast at Cana 2 The Ascension

3 The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God 3 The Coming of the Holy Spirit

4 The Transfiguration of Jesus 4 The Assumption of Mary

5 The Institution of the Eucharist 5 The Coronation of Mary

The Holy Family Prayer

May God Bless each family present. And bless our entire Holy Family Parish.

Make it like the family of your Son. May our moments of sorrow, give way to the seasons of joy.

May the memory of harsh words fade before the warmth of a loving touch. May the tears of sorrow be replaced by the music

of laughter. May resentment be banished from our families, and may forgiveness reign in our hearts.

Today and everyday. Amen!

Dance the Night Away

Did you attend the recent dinner-dance fund raiser for Holy Family? A fine time was had by all, enjoying good food, great compa-

ny, and LOTS of dancing. Father Fred announced the beginning of a creative fund-raising effort to donate new chairs to our new

church. If you missed the occasion, see Father for details on how you can participate.

Romy and Tessie Blanquera, the event coordinators, have the following message: “Please let the parishioners know that we want

to thank everyone who participated, helped, cooperated, contributed money, gifts for the raffle and silent auction. Their overall

support contributed to the success of the dinner dance fundraiser. There were countless sleepless nights and numerous planning

meetings and workshops to ensure the event’s success. The event was enjoyed by everyone and was well attended. We could not

have pulled it off without all of the volunteers, both new and familiar faces. We are still tabulating the results and will soon make

a summarized report. Again we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts.”

FUN PAGE

A photographer goes to a haunted castle determined to get a picture of a ghost on Halloween. The ghost he encoun-

ters turns out to be friendly and poses for a snapshot. The happy photographer later downloads his photos but finds

that the photos are underexposed since his automatic flash feature didn’t work on his camera. The moral of the sto-

ry: The spirit is willing, but the flash is weak. (See Matthew 26:41)

A witch sat down at her computer to write a religious message. She typed: “Luv

God and luv yur nabor,” but that didn’t look right. So she tried again: “Love God

and love yur nabor.” Still didn’t look right. Once more: “Love God and love yore na-

bor.” Again, no. Last try: “Love God and love your nabor.” She gave up. Looks like

she needed a spell checker - or maybe a ghost writer?

Sign on a church marquee: OUR CHURCH IS HAUNTED THIS HALLOWEEN. IT HAS A

GHOST AND ITS NAME IS HOLY!

My prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, So far, today, I've done all right. I haven't gossiped or lost my temper. I haven't

been greedy, grumpy, nasty, or self centered. I'm really happy about that so far. But in a few minutes I'm going to be

getting out of bed and then I'm going to need a lot of help. Thank you! Amen.

Q. What do they call pastors in Germany? A. German Shepherds.

Why does this look so small at the

grocery store, but so large at church?
