Erika Petrelli is the Senior Vice President of Leadership Development

(and self‐declared Minister of Mischief) for The Leadership Program, a

New York City‐based organiza on. With a Masters degree in Second‐

ary Educa on, Erika has been in the field of teaching and training for

decades, and has been with The Leadership Program since 1999.

There she has the opportunity to nurture individual leadership spirit

in both students and adults across the country.

The legacy Erika strives daily to create is to be the runway upon which

others take flight. One of the roles that truly ignites her is wri ng her

weekly blog, Wings & Whimsy, from which she also created an inter‐

ac ve journal now available for sale on Amazon‐‐ On Wings & Whim-

sy: Thoughts on Finding the Extraordinary Within The Ordinary. She

lives in Indiana with her family.

Out‐of‐School‐Time Food and Snack Programs

Community Planner for Nutri on Programs, MO Dept. of Health and Senior Services

Learn about two food programs available to out‐of‐school me programs through

the Department of Health and Senior Services. The Summer Food Service Program

(SFSP) helps assure children 0 to 18 years of age have access to nutri ous meals

during the summer months. SFSP contracts with community‐based organiza ons

and schools to provide nutri ous meals during the summer months. SFSP contracts

the summer. A erschool programs that par cipate in CACFP give children and teen‐

agers the nutri on they need, and draw them into construc ve ac vi es that are

safe, fun, and filled with opportuni es for learning.

Put Missouri Under the Feet of your A erschoolers   Judith Ware Missouri Geographic Alliance Explore the whys of where with a Giant Traveling Floor Map of Missouri. This ses‐sion will introduce you to how to use the map with youth to explore geography, science, tourism, agriculture, college access and more. You will have to kick off your shoes and walk across Missouri with a 17 foot x 22 foot map made by Na onal Geo‐graphic.

Documentary: “Screenagers”    Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid‐fire thumbs and a six‐second a en on span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scien sts, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech me impacts kids’ development and offers solu ons on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.  Speed Da ng for Exci ng Inexpensive Projects and Exercises in  Music, Art, Theatre and Dance Presented by Missouri Alliance For Arts in Educa on A er a brief introduc on to MAAE and services it provides, a endees will make 10 minute stops at 4‐5 sta ons learning/doing a project that would be dynamic and affordable for you to use with your students. Effec ve communica on in‐volves crea ng messages that are clear, courteous, and concise, as well as consider‐ing the ways in which we communicate nonverbally. This session focuses on ps for effec ve wri en, verbal, and digital communica on with others. This interac ve presenta on includes working through difficult scenarios that may occur with a stu‐dent, parent, or colleague in order to iden fy best prac ces for communica ng well in s cky situa ons.   How to Partner With Your Local 4‐H Program Through SPIN Clubs  Shannon White MO 4-H Center for Youth Development SPIN clubs (or Special Interest clubs) are a great way for an a erschool program to work with their local MU Extension 4‐H program. This type of club can be based on the educa onal needs that you have in your program and the over 200 project are‐as that 4‐H has projects in. This is a great way to use 21st Century Grant funds or to build external partnerships in your community with exis ng resources from na on‐al curriculum that can be localized. Trends and Emerging Issues in Substance Use  Chuck Daugherty Execu ve Director of ACT Missouri This presenta on will give par cipants a be er understanding of the way substance use effects the brain and body of users, discussion will include youth and adoles‐cent use. This workshop will include discussions on the most commonly abused substances along with specific substances that are emerging in Missouri. The So er Side of Leadership  Erika Petrelli
