KEY CHALLENGES FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

• Strengthen, sustain and scale-up the activities for promotion of Entrepreneurship

• Enough success stories and Role Models to thwart the Lure of high paying job opportunities and negative middle class mindset of low Risk taking

• Continued lack of social support for venturing into Entrepreneurship

• Highly competitive business environment• Presumably high financial entry barrier• To gather enough support for Start-up ventures

from financial markets/venture capitalists/Angel financiers

A SNAP SHOT OF STAKEHOLDERS VIEWS

• "NEN will bring different players on to a common platform to share experiences and cooperate in propagating and promoting the culture of entrepreneurship. This effort should go a long way in contributing to the growth of national economy." (Prof. S. Venkateswaran, Professor Emeritus-cum-Advisor and former Vice Chancellor, BITS )

• “The aptitude for entrepreneurship amongst young people has to be cultivated from the beginning in the university environment. Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) at BITS has been established to institutionalize the promotion of entrepreneurship by putting into effect activities linking various stakeholders viz. Students, Faculty, Alumni, Industry, Government and the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). The Center aims to create an entrepreneurial mindset to accelerate the process of wealth generation and jobs creation for the benefit of the community and the nation.”

• (Prof. L.K. Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor, BITS)

• “I consider myself a convert. When I joined BITS I only knew a few entrepreneurs like Sabeer Bhatia and Bill Gates. There was a time when I would be satisfied with a salaried job and a hassle free life. However, now that I have been a part of CEL and my internship at the start-up, there is definitely an urge to start something on my own.”

(Jimit Arora, BITS Pilani, alumnus, 2004)

• “We should do everything necessary to increase the ranks of young people who are risk takers, high energy, and hungry for success; they will help create new jobs and new markets for India. NEN can be exploited to the fullest to build the right kind of resources for this purpose.“

(Vinod Agarwal, BITS alumnus & CEL Advisor, Chairman & Chief Strategist, Logic Vision)

NEN Partnership

NEN came in at a point when our Institute was concerned about developing an entrepreneurship program that would prepare our students for the future.

Access international academic resources and benefit from the NEN STVP EEC program.

The NEN team is informal, harmonious and inspiring to work with.

The TiE networking events conducted by NEN was a platform that helped us build a good network with entrepreneurs in India and across the globe.

Networking with other institutes and faculty members is very useful.

Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, BITS Pilani

• For CEL , the NEN partnership has become a gateway for development and sharing of high quality resources , an access to world class educational products and programmes across the network. CEL efforts have started yielding a positive attitudinal change amongst BITSians towards entrepreneurship.

• Attributed to increasing awareness amongst students regarding importance and benefits of becoming an entrepreneur as also the educational environment to which students at BITS get exposed.

• Process of greater exposure and opportunities to students to learn, understand and practise about entrepreneurship would go a long way in improving the conversion factor of their becoming entrepreneurs under different CEL Activities.

Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, BITS Pilani

Plans for Future

Envision Pilani to be the hub of entrepreneurship in years to come.

To develop high impact innovative entrepreneurship development programs to enable formation of new high-growth companies.

To offer some more collaborative corporate executive development programs.

We want to lift CEL to the next level through continuous improvement and focus on

entrepreneurship.

Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, BITS Pilani

• The BITS experience suggests that with its strong Alumni network, institutionalized industry linkage, unique and flexible learning environment and high quality student input coupled with NEN partnership, is being instrumental in systematic efforts in promotion of entrepreneurship. It has started yielding results and would go a long way in changing the mind-set of the youth and enabling them to avail emerging opportunities in high-tech and high-growth industries.
