    Histology of Cecum;

    Mucosa (mu) of the cecum lacks villi but has long simple tubular intestinal

    glands with many goblet cells.

    The submucosa has large lymphatic nodules (n) A tunica muscularis (m) of smooth muscle follows the typical histologic

    pattern of intestinal tract.

    Function;

    Cecum (such as the at!s " other herbivores) is area for digestion of

    high fiber materials (plant material)#

    $ften serve as storage %ones for cellulose digesting bacteria.(for those

    animals having large caecum)

    &reviously undigested fiber may also be broken down
