    I. GENERAL INFORMATION

    A. Composition

    Geography : Cebu is located between 925' N & 1121' N and between 123 25' E &

124 30' E in the center of the archipelago, which is part of the Central

Visayas Region. The main island stretches about 220 kilometers long from

north to south and about 41 kilometers at its widest portion. The

topography of Cebu is characterized by narrow coastlines, limestone

plateaus, and coastal plains but with predominant rolling hills and rugged

mountain ranges traversing the northern and southern lengths of the island.

Although Cebu's steep mountains reach over 1,000 meters, the island lackssubstantial forest cover. In the towns of Bogo, San Remigio, Medellin and

Daan Bantayan at the northern tip of the province, considerable flat tracts

of land are found. Of the three biggest islands, Mactan and Bantayan are

relatively flat while Camotes is hilly.

    Metallic and Non-Metallic Deposits:

Cebu is rich in metallic and non-metallic mineral deposits. However, the volume of non-

metallic substances is more than the metallic mineral resources because the former lie on

limestone formations that virtually occupy around two-thirds (2/3) of the island.

    Power Utilities

    Source: www.cebu.gov.ph/public utilities

For now, Cebu is relying mainly on the geothermal energy that is being supplied to the

Visayas-Panay grid to which the island is part of. The grid has three main powerbaseloads with a capacity of over 2,200MW of electricity. Other sources of power are

thermal and diesel generating plants. These sources provide Cebu island with 220V

    AC electricity.

Power distribution companies for the mainland are the Visayan Electric Company(Veco) for Metro Cebu and the Cebu Electric Cooperative (Cebeco) for the rest of the

mainland. Island municipalities, meanwhile, are being served by the Bantayan Electric

Cooperative (for Bantayan island comprising Sta. Fe, Bantayan and Madridejos) and

the Camotes Electric Cooperative (for the Camotes group of islands composed ofTudela, Poro, San Francisco and Pilar towns).

However, construction is well on its way for Cebu to have home-based power plants inNaga City through the Korea Electric Power Corporation and Toledo City through the

    Global Business Power Corporation.

    Water Utilities

    Source: www.cebu.gov.ph/public utilities

Distribution of water in Metro Cebu areas is being handled by the Metro Cebu Water

District (MCWD). Water distribution facilities in the towns beyond the metro are being

operated and managed either by local water district cooperatives, or their respective

    municipal governments.

The Cebu Provincial Government, however, has begun the process of bulk water

supply development to supply the whole island and plans to tap private-public sectorpartnerships to realize this.
