"The wavy waters in the picture are

symbolic of Karma, the lotus of Bhakti, and

the rising sun of Jnana. The encircling serpent

is indicative of Yoga and awakened Kundalini

Shakti, while the swan in the picture stands for

the Paramatman. Therefore the idea of the

picture is that by the union of Karma, Bhakti,

Jnana and Yoga, the vision of the Paramatman

is obtained."

INTRODUCTIONThe advent of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa is thestarting point of the renaissance in India. Swami Vivekananda, theillustrious disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, gave the first impetus to itby starting the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897. The Mission isendeavouring to realise its aims through its centres numbering TwoHundred and Two in India and abroad. The Chennai centre is one ofthe oldest having been started in 1897. The Ramakrishna MissionVivekananda College is a unit of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith,Chennai, which is a branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission, BelurMath in West Bengal. It occupies a place of pre-eminence amongthe educational activities of the Mission in India. It was formallyopened on 21st June, 1946. The Evening College was started in1974.Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College aims at giving studentsa man making and character building education.Education should be aimed at developing a man’s life at variouslevels - physical, mental, intellectual, moral, and spiritual. The allround development should take place simultaneously andharmoniously keeping in view the summum bonum of life whichis to realize the oneness of all existence. The college offers specialprogrammes like Religion Classes and Swami Vivekananda StudyCircle classes which aim at giving the students an insight intospirituality that is to develop self-confidence and faith in themselvesand a concern for fellow human beings. All these are amply borne out by the fact that the collegehas been Re-accredited with “A+” grade by NAAC. The collegehas become autonomous from the academic year 2004-05.

NATIONAL INTEGRATION PLEDGE“I solemnly pledge to work with dedication to preserve and

strengthen the freedom and integrity of the Nation.

I further affirm that I shall never resort to violence and thatall differences and disputes relating to religion, languages, regionor other political, or economic grievances should be settled bypeaceful and constitutional means”.
