Some of my favourite cover designsSome of my favourite cover designs
Black Rebel Motorcycle ClubBlack Rebel Motorcycle ClubBaby 81
When you look at this cover, you think of rock, because it uses a picture of a broken guitar.
This cover uses the image of the band, dressed in black, leather jackets, and messy hair, this style is worn by other rock group and they audiences.
The picture is in black and white, with them sitting on a neglected street corner, with paint peeling off, and graffiti on the wall behind them, this shows they are not glossy, but quite serious, the photo is made to look natural. The photo makes them look like a rock band, with the posing, and style
The image of the black broken guitar shows their music is harder and a more rough sound, a rock sound.
Alternative rock, garage rock, noise rock, blues, folk
Primal scream – Beautiful futurePrimal scream – Beautiful future
This cover is in the style of a TV screen, it looks modern, electronic, and futuristic, which you associate with certain pop styles.
Uses a image of a woman's face, which is slightly distorted, it looks like pop art. It gives it a pop-rock feel to it.
It looks ‘big brother’, ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ feel to it with the eyes looking at you, telling you what the songs are about.
The font for the title looks cartoon, but science fiction, which links back to the modern image of the group.
Alternative rock, indie pop, acid house, drum ‘n’ bass, alternative dance
Monkey, journey to the westMonkey, journey to the west
This cover uses a drawing of a monkey, it looks arty and it also looks oriental with the style in which it is drawn in. the cover uses dark colours to set the mood as dark and dangerous.
From looking at this cover you wouldn't know what style of music it is, but you would think the music was similar to the Gorillaz, as it uses the same style of artwork. The musician Damon Albam, and artist Jamie Hewlett help make this album, and they also made the Gorillaz.
A stage adaptation of the 16th century Chinese novel “ Journey to the west”, the story is of the monkey’s quest to search for the holy scriptures for Buddha, with the help of Pigsy, Sandy, and the Dragon prince.
Green day – 21Green day – 21stst century century breakdownbreakdown
Using graffiti art, shows Rebellion, Green day’s songs are normally about rebellion against authority.
This gives the band a punk feel to it, as punks express anger and social alienation, which are the themes in Green Days songs
Using a young couple on the front, this attracts a young audience, as they feel they can relate to the themes in Green Days music.
Punk rock, pop punk, alternative rock
Linkin Park – Hybrid TheoryLinkin Park – Hybrid TheoryRap, rap metal. Alternative metal
Hybrid theory was Linkin Park’s debut album, so it had to give the right image that people would associate with them.
The bands name is big and bold, and “in your face” which is stereotypical of rock music
Rough background with graffiti art work of a solider with dragonfly wings, it looks bold, but street style as well.
You see rock audiences as rough, big and bold with they music, and style.
Mark Snow – The X Files: I Want to Mark Snow – The X Files: I Want to BelieveBelieve
Using blacks, and blue colours makes you think the music if going to be cold , creepy, moody and mysterious, but also sad. It has a white light shinning from the corner, adds mystery which is a main theme in the X Files.
Mark snow composed and performed the music for the X Files TV series, as well as the two films, so people know what type of music to expect from him.
If this CD cover didn’t have the title on it, you would still recognise what it was, with the silhouettes of the characters, with they shadows overlapping, to make the “X” symbol.
I like this cover, with the picture the characters shadows, I think its simple but affective design.
MuseMuseAlternative rock, new prog, space rock
This cover shows a picture from the live event, with the stadium, and fireworks, which shows them as big and extravagant. With the silhouettes of the band, you can see they are a rock band.
These covers show the group as out of the ordinary, with satellites, space, and fantasy inspired objects, making them seem different.
I like the artwork on these CDs, as I like the science fiction feel to them.
