Common Career in 4 Visegrad Countries

Explore the benefits of Europe without frontiers.

Study at one of the partner universities from the

Visegrad countries.

Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church

in Budapest, the Jagiellonian University in Kraków,

the University of Pardubice, Charles University in Prague

and the University of Prešov have launched a website

to provide you with easy access to information on MA

programmes in studies of Anglophone literatures and

cultures. Each of the departments offers a unique set

of courses and experts to assist you in your intellectual

development.

The modern job market appreciates international

experience, and the easiest way to gain it is to study

abroad. Studying in the Anglophone countries is an

unforgettable experience, but not everybody can afford to

travel that far. Choosing a respectable department close

to home may be an option which will provide you with

the necessary experience in a friendly environment of the

four countries with a common history and mentality.

PrahaDepartment of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at the Charles University in Prague

Page 13: CCV4 brochure

The Department of Anglophone Literatures and

Cultures builds on the international recognition that

came in the 1920s with the development of the Prague

School of Structuralism at the Faculty of Arts of Charles

University. The Department currently combines the

heritage of structuralism and traditional literary

historiography with contemporary theoretical approaches

utilised in an interdisciplinary context.

The English and American Studies programme

runs in two principal forms of study: a three-year

BA programme and a two-year MA programme,

organized in cooperation with the Department of the

English Language and ELT Methodology. Moreover,

the Department offers a prestigious PhD programme

in Anglo-American Literary Studies.

The breadth of our expertise is reflected in the structure

of the MA study, which allows students to specialise in:

– English literature

– American literature and cultural studies

– Irish studies

– British and Commonwealth studies

– critical and cultural theory

We promote a rigorous study of English-language

literatures and cultures along with a commitment

to developing advanced skills in writing, analysis and

critical thinking. Our graduates gain experience in doing

research, translating, and public speaking, as well

as being equipped with a broad knowledge of Anglophone

literatures and cultures and English language linguistics.
