BestEducationDegrees.com, dedicated to helping you find the best school possible to further your education, has included Diamond Ranch High School among the world’s most
amazing campuses. Serving students from Diamond Bar and Phillips Ranch, Diamond Ranch High School is operated by the Pomona Unified School District. The California Department of Education named it a California Distinguished School in 2003 and 2007 and the school has won many other awards, includ-ing named as one of America’s

Are there cheaper options on the market, like using a different calling plan, Skype, a different provider or even switching to a different pay-roll provider or bringing some outside services in-house. “Businesses have to be willing to change with the times and
fix what’s broken. Knowing your customers and their needs goes hand in hand with this because you are able to focus on what is actually working instead of wasting time on what’s not,” said Barbara, owner of Sophie’s Wags to Whiskers in Walnut.
Customer Service is Key: Just because the economy wasn’t doing well, the level of
customer service should not decrease. Instead, small busi-nesses should work even harder on making sure that their services are done to the absolute best of their ability. When consumer money is tight, the decision of where to spend it is ultimate-

19, Anaheim, is charged with five felony counts each of arson of forest, three felony counts of arson of another’s property, and one felony count of receiving stolen property. If convicted on all counts, Castillo faces a maxi-mum sentence of 13 years and eight months in state prison. The People will request the defendant be held on $100,000 bail at his arraignment at the Central Jail, Santa Ana.
Between May 29, 2013, and May 31, 2013, Castillo is ac-cused of starting three vehicle arsons in Anaheim. No injuries were reported during these fires.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2013, Castillo is ac-cused of starting a brush fire near Weir Canyon Road in Anaheim. Three hours later, Castillo is ac-cused of starting three separate additional brush fires in Yorba Linda. At approximately 3:30 p.m., the defendant is accused of starting another fire west of
California State Route 241 in Anaheim. Castillo is accused of driving his Ford sports utility vehicle (SUV) close to the scene of the fires. Later that day, law enforcement found the Ford SUV with a stolen watch and mobile phone inside.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Anaheim Police De-partment, and the Anaheim Fire Department jointly investigated this case. On Aug. 25, 2013, Castillo was arrested.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Christopher Duff of the Special Prosecutions Unit is prosecuting this case.

Small business longevity
Will ontario airport survive?
by Forbes magazine in a past ar-ticle, the LA/Ontario International Airport lost nearly 40% of its annual passengers from 2007 to 2012. Previously hosting nearly seven million travelers each year, authorities anticipate a further decline in 2013 lowering expec-tations to fewer than four million, according to CBSLA.com.
Recession, budget cuts and airline changes contribute to the reduction or elimination of flights causing consumers to book else-where. Declining flights force the increase of airline pricing. Coupled with the fare competi-tion that secondary airports like
Ontario have from LAX and one can understand the decline in business.
Compared with the enormity of LAX, Ontario usually provides a pleasant and somewhat stress-free experience. From easy parking and terminal access to bright and comfortable waiting areas, LA/Ontario International Airport is a smart option for travelers in Riverside, San Ber-nardino, and even Los Angeles Counties.
CBSLA.com also reported that LA/Ontario leaders previously attempted to obtain the airport from city-owned Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), who also owns LAX, in order to provide better advertising and support,
but there seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the rea-sons for business decline. LAWA wants to set the record straight, and has provided “The Facts” on their website.
Although the Inland Empire is still one of the fastest-growing areas of California, affordable housing is the key attraction, not the job market. Airports need business travel to sustain rev-enues. All this trending could mean trouble for this important Southern California airport hub. LAWA states that it is committed to helping LA/Ontario return to prosperity.

Dr. Lowe of Lowe Chiropractic in Diamond Bar advises, “Stick with excellent customer service and your clients will keep com-ing back and refer you to their friends. When the economy was bad, we relied on word of mouth for the majority of our clients; those clients have stayed and brought in even more clients.” Dr. Lowes Chiropractic Prac-
tice has been in business for over 16 years and has survived through the recession, allowing his business to boom today.
Don’t Skimp on Advertising: When money gets tight, the natu-ral reaction is to cut all unneces-sary expenses and usually adver-tising is the first to go. However, this is when advertising needs to be the most aggressive and creative. A business has to catch and keep the attention of the consumer in order to gain their business. Even if the advertising doesn’t result in instant business,
getting your product, name, busi-ness or idea out into the general public will help business grow.
Dan Gerstner, owner of Alamo Car Wash in Walnut, has been in business since 1990 and agrees that heavily advertis-ing helps businesses. In ad-dition, he thinks that “offering incentives and promotions is key to gaining and retaining business when times get tough.”
Make sure to continue to shop locally and support our advertisers, so we can continue to see busineses stay open.

es his creativity through every art piece, even if it’s as simple as a portrait of relatives, friends, or a family pet.
For five years, Sanchez has been painting his thoughts, feel-ings and emotions on canvas. He decided to start Vision Arts to share his love of painting with others.
Mathew Sanchez recently won Pomona’s Visual Artist of the Year at RAW Artists’ RAWards last year. At the show, his artistic work was highlighted and he was awarded with the prestigious honor.
There were six categories in-
volved in the RAWards, including visual art, fashion, photography, make-up, hair and music. Each nominee had their work set up for an audience in-person vote and to be evaluated by a panel of qualified judges. the winners were picked for each category based off both the in-person vote and the judges’ evaluations.
After winning in the Visual Arts category, Sanchez said, “I’m very thankful to have been voted Pomo-na’s Visual Artist of the Year. From this accomplishment, I’m inspired to continue my dream to becoming a well-known and respected artist throughout the world.”
Vision Arts provides a variety of different art created by Sanchez
himself. “Whether it’s a special request or simply just a piece of art my client is interested in buying, my art drifts to many different items and types of art,” says Sanchez.
Sanchez specializes in custom clocks, hand-painted vinyl figures, abstract paintings, scenery paint-ings, graphic design, and black and white portraits. The portraits he paints aren’t just pictures of people, they are black and white painted portraits with a few high-lighting colors that convey an artistic spin.
Sanchez has also done spray-painted art, pen and pencil sketch-es, pop art, hand-painted skate-boards and custom animation characters. Sanchez said he can
paint on almost anything, if given the opportunity.
Painting is not only Sanchez’s hobby, but it’s his passion. “I love seeing my art put a smile on a customer’s face. I take every paint-ing or project to its fullest potential. So when my customers are happy, it’s a very rewarding feeling,” says Sanchez.
What separates Sanchez from other artists is his diversity of art and his ability to take special requests. “Most artists don’t take requests, but I’m open to any project and am willing to work with my customers to achieve their satisfaction.”
Something really interesting about Sanchez is that he has never taken one art class in his
life. All of his artwork is self-taught through observations and experi-mentation. “God blessed me with this gift and all I want to do is to show the world my thoughts and feelings as I splatter them on a fresh white canvas.”
To introduce his vision of art, Vi-sion Arts is selling black and white clocks for $40 (originally $60). Pick your favorite celebrity, character, or picture and have a one-of-a-kind custom clock painted for only $40.
Visit Sanchez’s website at www.matsanchez.com, his Instagram: @visionarts, or his ad on page 11 to see more samples of his work. For more information or for a cus-tom work, you can email Sanchez at [email protected].

Thousands of L.A. County workers walk off
Reposession Bill Ensures Accountability
for private companies who con-tract with the County.
• Strengthen a green ride-share program to encourage carpooling and public transit use while reducing freeway congestion.
• Close loopholes that allow large corporations to avoid pay-ing property taxes that support services for ordinary citizens.
• Reduce caseloads for so-cial workers so they can better focus on LA County’s children.
• Fair wage increases for County workers who haven’t gotten an increase in nearly five years.
According to ABC News, L.A. County Chief executive officer William Fujioka says the current proposal on the table is a stag-gered 6 percent wage increase, but union representatives deny any such proposal has been
offered. Fujioka also said that considering L.A. County is coming out of one of the worst recessions in the area, 6 percent increase is a very responsible salary increase. The focus is now on coming to some sort of agreement and getting everyone back to work. Workers returned to work on Wednesday.
The SEIU Local 721 rep-resents more than 55,000 LA County employees, including
nurses and other healthcare workers, librarians, social work-
ers, clerical workers, probation officers and many others.
news release Sacramento — This week,
Assemblyman Curt Hagman’s (R-Chino Hills) AB 791, which improves certain aspects of the repossession industry and its relationship with the public, was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.
“AB 791 provides additional protections for both consum-ers and licensed re-possessors regarding how re-possessors
legally recover property,” said As-semblyman Hagman. “This new law will allow for smoother trans-actions between re-possessors, agencies, and the public, while also increasing accountability within the profession.”
Assembly Bill 791 updates provisions of the Collateral Re-covery Act to provide clarity to current codes while addressing issues pertaining to the activities of licensed repossession agen-cies. The three major concerns
AB 791 addresses are confi-dentiality of licensee informa-tion, appropriate authorizations for licensed repossessors, and proper identification. this bill will help prevent misunderstand-ings, protect personal privacy, and ensure repossessors act only within the oversight of their profession.
