    Join us for our Welcome to San Diego event dinner and cocktails at the Padre Tra

    Inn featuring a presentation portraying Kate O. Sessions, the Mother of Balboa Park

    The presentation will be given by Nancy Carol Carter, president of the San DiegoFloral Association, which was founded by Kate.

    EXPLORE BALBOA PARK

    Balboa Park began as 1400 acres of land set aside in 1868 by San Diego civic leaders

    Known then as City Park, the scrub-lled mesa that overlooked present day

    Downtown San Diego sat without formal landscaping or development for more tha

    20 years. Today, it is home to seventeen museums that incorporate San Diegos

    diverse past. Among these museums is the San Diego History Museum, which is the

    oldest scientic institution in Southern California. It is here that you will also nd th

    Marston House Museum, built for noted civic leader and merchant, George W.

    Marston and listed on the National Register of Historic Places!

    DINNER AT BARRA BARRA SALOON

    Join us for dinner at Barra Barra Saloon inside of Old Town San Diegos State Historic

    Park. Enjoy a presentation of Boldricks to Whitsitts: Celebrating San Diegos Shoes,

    Hats and Local Design, by Gabe Selak of the San Diego History Center. This millinery

    and cobbled journey explores hats and shoes from the Victorian, Edwardian,

    Surrealist, New Look, and modern age as well as the stores, boutiques and fashion

    houses that presented them to the San Diego region.

    DISCOVER OLD TOWN SAN DIEGO

    Old Town San Diego, the rst European settlement in what is now Californi

    is often called the state's birthplace. In 1769, Father Junipero Serra foundethe rst California mission here. Today, Old Town San Diego state park

    occupies nine square blocks, and preserves ve original adobes including

    Case de Estudilo, an elegant early residence. Enjoy a few hours exploring O

    Town San Diego and see for yourself where California began!

    BOARD THE USS MIDWAY

    USS Midway was an aircraft carrier of the Unites States Navy, the lead ship

    her class. Commissioned a week after the end of World War II, the Midway

    was the largest ship in the world until 1955, as well as the rst U.S. warshiptoo big to transit the Panama Canal. She served for an unprecedented 47

    years, saw action in the Vietnam War, and was the Persian Gulfagship in

    1991's Operation Desert Storm. Decommissioned in 1992, she is now a

    museum ship at the USS Midway Museum, in San Diego. Imagine

    experiencing life at sea aboard one of Americas longest-serving aircraft

    carriers. Visitors to the USS Midway Museum enter a oating city at sea an

    walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors who served our country an

    upheld the American ideals of strength, freedom and peace.

    GORDON BIERSCH BREWERY

    Symposium attendees will learn about San Diegos brewing past while

    indulging in a two-course dinner at Gordon Biersch Brewery. History on T

    will be presented by Matthew Schiof the San Diego History Center.

    3:00-6:00pm: Executive Committee Meeting at the Padre Trail Inn in historic Downtown San Diego.

    6:30-8:00pm: Welcome to San Diego Event: Cocktails and dinner at the Padre Trail Inn, featuring a

    presentation by Nancy Carol Carter, Kate O. Sessions: Mother of Balboa Park.

    8:00-9:00am: CCHS Regional Vice Presidents Meeting at Padre Trail Inn.

    9:00-6:00pm: Explore Balboa Park and all it has to oer including 17 museums incorporating San

    Diegos history. Enjoy a picnic lunch or dine in one of the many restaurants it has to oer.

    7:00-9:00pm: Dinner at Barra Barra Saloon in beautiful Downtown San Diego. Presentation of

    Boldricks to Whitsitts: Celebrating San Diegos Shoes, Hats and their Local Design, by Gabe Selak of

    the San Diego History Center.

    8:30-9:15am: CCHS Board Meeting at Padre Trail Inn.

    10:00-noon: Explore Old Town San Diego at your leisure. Enjoy the many historic sights San Diego has to oe

    or head over to the Old Town Saturday Market, the largest weekly artisan fair.

    Noon-1:00pm: Relax over lunch and learn about San Diegos Military History at the Padre Trail Inn before

    touring the USS Midway.

    1:00-1:15pm: Board the Symposium Bus, which will travel to the USS Midway Museum.2:00-5:00pm: Tour the USS Midway where you will walk in the footsteps of 225,000 sailors who proudly served

    our country.

    5:00-5:15pm: Board the Symposium bus and return to the hotel.

    5:15-6:00pm: Relax before an exciting evening learning about San Diegos brewing past.

    6:00-9:00pm: Happy Hour and dinner at Gordon Biersch Brewery. Enjoy beer, wine, and a Marzen dinner

    while Michael Schiof the San Diego History Center presents History on Tap.
