INTRODUCTION CCH publishes specialized tax, legal, human resources and financial content electronically on the Folio Views platform. All content is organized into libraries published under the corresponding CCH Publications brand name: CCH Tax, CCH Legal, CCH Business and CCH Financial. Each of the CCH Publications product is made up of a number of individual product titles each of which corresponds to a Folio Views infobase. When you purchase CCH Publications, you may purchase all product titles available in that publication or you may purchase various groupings of titles. The install code distributed with your CCH Publications DVD-ROM keeps track of what you purchased and what you have access to.

After you install your CCH Publications for the first time, you may want to add to it from time to time. You may do this in one of three ways: updating content (infobases) included within your existing CCH Publications product, adding new infobases (titles) to your existing CCH Publications product, or purchasing additional CCH Publications industry products.

This document describes how to do the following:

• Install CCH Publication – Folio Views 4.7 on your computer for the first time

• Install periodic product title updates (infobases) for your CCH Publications product

• Install newly purchased product titles (infobases) for use with your existing CCH Publications product

• Install additional or multiple CCH Publications products

System Requirements The following table outlines both the minimum and recommended system requirements for installing and running CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 under Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP Professional. CCH Library – Folio Views 4.3 and Les Collections CCH – Ariane will work on your computer until the infobases expire. You may use CCH Library – Folio Views 4.3 and CCH Publications - Folio Views 4.7 on the same computer at the same time.

Before You Install Checklist To ensure a smooth installation, we recommend you complete the following checklist before you install CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7.

General Checklist (All Installations)

• Check that the target installation computer meets the stated system requirements. See System Requirements on page 2.

• Locate the 18 character install code (######-######-######) provided on the CCH Publications DVD-ROM sleeve. Make sure you have this handy for the installation.

• If you are installing in a Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional environment that uses restricted rights profiles, ensure that the Windows account you will use has at least Power User privileges. Administrative privileges are not required for the installation. After the installation, CCH Publications can be run under any Windows user account that has read/write access to the infobase folder.

• Determine whether you want to perform a standalone installation (install on one computer for use by one user) or a network installation (install on a network for use by multiple users).

• Refer to your CCH invoice/order to confirm whether you purchased a single user license or a multiple user license.

• Check for sufficient disk space. See System Requirements on page 2.

• It is recommended that you close all active applications.

10. Specify the appropriate destination folders and click Next to proceed. You must specify a folder for the Folio Views 4.7 application and a folder for the infobases and application data files. By default, the destination folders are: C:\Program Files\CCH Library 4.7 and C:\Program Files\CCH Library 4.7\NFO respectively. You may accept the default destination folders or use the Browse button to select another folder.

Important: You must install the infobases and application data files to a folder that is writeable under the user’s Windows account. If you are installing the software for another user, you must either grant full access privileges to the folder to which you want to install the infobases and application data files, or install to a folder that already has that access (for example, My Documents/User_Name).

If you are installing on a single machine that will be used by multiple users, specify an infobase destination folder that is write-accessible to all users at all times, regardless of their login privileges. For most recent Windows operating systems, we recommend that you set the infobase destination folder to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCH Library 4.7\NFO and grant full access privileges to that folder. (The Documents and Settings\All Users folder may be hidden on the user’s system. To display this folder, start Windows Explorer, go to the Tools menu, and click Folder Options. On the View tab, click Show Hidden Files And Folders under the Advanced Settings section and then click OK.)

11. TaxWorks Daily and Protos require a separate subscription. In the event where you subscribed to one or both products, select the appropriate check box(es) to enable it/them. Specify the folder(s) where you installed the infobase(s) and click Next. Otherwise click Next to proceed.

Installing on a Network for Multiple Users You can install CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 on a network computer for multiple users. This is a two step process. First, you must perform a network install to place CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 on a network folder that is read/write accessible by all users (either via a single UNC path or a single mapped drive letter that all users and the administrative machine can refer to). Once CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 is installed on the network drive, all users must set up their computer to use that shared network installation by running the ADDFVUSR.EXE program from the \Network\Setup folder. The ADDFVUSR.EXE program will simply install shortcuts and icons in the appropriate places.

Note: Users may want to run this program themselves (requires Power User privileges as a minimum) or a system administrator may add the executable to an automated login script for deployment. Power User privileges are not required to run CCH Publications.

The following diagram illustrates the network installation process.

Page 11: CCHPublications–FolioViews4 · CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any

12. Specify the appropriate network installation options and click Next.

Important! Make sure you specify unique and descriptive labels for the Network Installation Name and the CCH Launcher Shortcut Icon Text. These labels will be needed to identify this network installation in cases where a single administrative computer hosts multiple CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 network installations, or in cases where users run multiple CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 network products.

Do the following:

a. In the Network Installation Name field, type a name that describes the network installation. You will need this name to uniquely identify this installation in the event that you set up multiple CCH Publications products for network use. For example, use the name TaxWorks when installing a network version of the CCH TaxWorks Publications.

Note: Special characters (\ / : * ? “ < > |) should not be entered in this field as they could cause CCH Publications not to work properly.

b. If you want to install a shortcut icon to the user setup program (ADDFVUSR.EXE) on the administrative computer’s desktop, select the Create shortcut to user setup files on administrator’s desktop check box.

Page 15: CCHPublications–FolioViews4 · CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any

CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 Installation Guide

Note: You can use this shortcut icon to set the administrative machine up as a network user or you can send the shortcut to users to set up themselves as network users.

c. Type the name that will be used for the CCH Launcher icon on the end user’s desktop in the Use This Name field. You may want to use the same name you specified in step a.

Note: Special characters (\ / : * ? “ < > |) should not be entered in this field as they could cause CCH Publications not to work properly.

d. You can run infobases directly from the CCH Publications DVD-ROM or you can install them to the hard drive and run them from there. If you plan to run any of the infobases directly from the CCH Publications DVD-ROM, specify where the CCH Publications DVD-ROM will be located. Do one of the following:

• The Same Drive you Are Installing From – Click Source DVD-ROM if users will run the infobases directly from the DVD drive in which the installation DVD-ROM is now inserted.

• Another Local DVD Drive – Click Local DVD-ROM Drive Letter and type the drive letter corresponding to the DVD drive into which the CCH Publications DVD-ROM will be inserted.

• Somewhere on the Network – Click Network Mount and specify the network path.

13. Specify the appropriate destination folder(s) and click Next.

Important! The files must be installed to a network location that will be read/write accessible to all intended users and the administrative machine either through a single UNC path (see notes below) or through a single mapped drive (same drive letter mapping for all users). Consider the following examples:

UNC Example – If you perform a network install to a UNC path such as \\apps\research\CCH which is accessible to all users, then users must connect to \\apps\research\CCH to run the user setup program (see the next procedure). If users connect to \\apps\research\CCH using a mapped drive to run the user setup program, it will not work properly.

Mapped Drive Example – If you perform a network install to mapped network path such as M:\research\CCH which is accessible to all users, then users must connect to that path using the mapped drive M on their own computer. If users connect to the path using a UNC path or another drive letter mapping, the user setup program will not work properly.

Note about UNC paths: UNC paths with spaces may cause problems linking between infobases. Do not include spaces in UNC paths. All UNC paths must be in the form: \\<server name>\<share name>\<install folder>.

By default, the installation directories are: C:\Program Files\CCH Library\Network_Installation_Name and C:\Program Files\CCH Library\Network_Installation_Name\NFO where:

Network_Installation_Name is the name of the CCH Publications product you are installing. The infobase and data files folder must be read/write accessible to all users.

Note: We recommend that you install the infobases in a directory separate from the Folio Views 4.7 software such as a NFO subfolder of the installation directory.

Page 16: CCHPublications–FolioViews4 · CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any

14. TaxWorks Daily and Protos require a separate subscription. In the event where you

subscribed to one or both products, select the appropriate checkbox(es) to enable it/them. Specify the folder(s) where you installed the infobase(s) and click Next. Otherwise, skip this window by clicking Next.

15. Check the infobases you want to install to the designated infobase destination folder. To

expand the infobase lists, click the + sign to the left of the title. Click Next to proceed.

Note: A description of the highlighted infobase appears on the right side of the panel.

16. Review the selections you have made. If you want to change anything, click Back repeatedly

to go to the appropriate panel, make the change, and click Next to move forward again. Otherwise, click Next to proceed.

The installation program begins installing the software and infobases as specified. During this time you will see a number of progress panels and dialog boxes.

17. On the final panel, click Finish.

CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 is now located in the designated network folder. That folder contains two directories: Support and Setup. The Support folder contains the product documentation and other support tools. The Setup folder contains the files that are required to set up network users (shown below).

18. Set up network users. See Setting Up Users to Run CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7

From the Network below.

It will prompt you to enter the install code provided on your CCH Publications Folio Views 4.7 DVD-ROM sleeve. If you choose to install these infobases on your computer or network, rather than run them from the DVD-ROM, the installation program will require you to install them to the same directory containing the other infobases in the CCH Publications. This is required to ensure that the links between infobases within a product work properly.

If you are upgrading to Folio Views 4.7 for the first time and you have purchased additional titles, you will need to update your product first and then add new titles.

Installing New CCH Publications Products and Running Multiple Products Some customers purchase multiple CCH Publications products. Each product comes on its own CCH Publications DVD-ROM. Depending on the product type, there are some things you should be aware of and some special considerations.

Installing Multiple CCH Publications Standalone Products on a Single Computer Multiple CCH Publications standalone products may be installed on the same computer.

Multiple CCH Publications products will share the same Folio Views and Launcher program files. The infobases may be installed in the same directory or in different directories.

Note: Infobases must be installed in the same directory in order for inter-infobase linking to work.

Page 24: CCHPublications–FolioViews4 · CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any

Installing Multiple CCH Publications Network Products on a Single Administrative Computer Multiple CCH Publications networked products may be installed on the same administrative computer. We recommend that you do this as it will be easier for you to administer multiple products. You may set up each networked product as its own installation (“new network installation”) or you may add them to the first network product you set up (“modify existing network installation”). If you want all users to have access to both network products, we recommend you modify the original network installation to add the additional CCH Publications product to it. If there are two distinct groups of users for the two products, we recommend you set up two separate network installations.

Note: After modifying an existing network with a new networked product, all users must update their computers by running ADDFVUSR.EXE again. See Setting Up Users to Run From a Network, above.

Installing Multiple CCH Publications Network Products From Multiple Administrative Computers Multiple CCH Publications networked products may be installed on a single network from two different administrative machines. The products must be installed in two different network folders.

Installing CCH Publications Standalone Products on a CCH Publications Administrative Computer Standalone CCH Publications products may not be installed on a CCH Publications administrative computer. If you want to run Folio Views 4.7 from the administrative computer, you may do so by setting the computer up as a network user by running ADDFVUSR.EXE on that computer.

Installing Combined English & French CCH Publications Products on the Same Computer CCH provides CCH Publications products exclusively in English and exclusively in French. Whether standalone or network, you may run both on the same machine.

In order to install English and French CCH Publication products consult the following sections:

Standalone: • Installing Multiple CCH Publications Standalone Products on a Single Computer

Network: • Installing Multiple CCH Publications Network Products on a Single Administrative Computer

• Installing Multiple CCH Publications Network Products From Multiple Administrative Computers

Installing CCH Library – Folio Views 4.3, CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 Products and Les Collections CCH – Ariane on the Same Computer You may run the three versions of CCH Publications, CCH Publications 4.7 and Les Collections CCH – Ariane on your computer at the same time. They will work independently. However, if you have products that are linked with hyperlinks, you will need to run the same version of both products to use these links. Links work from Folio Views 4.3 to Folio Views 4.3 and between Folio Views 4.7 and Folio Views 4.7. Links will not work between Folio Views 4.3 and Folio Views 4.7.

Troubleshooting the Installation

Install Requires Administrative Privileges Situation: If your computer meets the installation system requirements, you may install CCH Publications using a Windows account that has Power User privileges.

Solution: Contact your system administrator. Ask them to upgrade your system as required so that you may then run the CCH Publications installation, or ask them to log into your computer using their Windows account and install the application for you. Power User privileges are not required to run CCH Publications. User privileges with read/write access to the infobase folder are required to run CCH Publications.

Network Setup Option is Greyed Out Situation: The Network option is greyed out on the Setup Options panel during the installation.

Cause: You cannot run a network installation if you have already installed another CCH Publications product locally on your computer.

Cannot Complete Installation After Forced Reboot Situation: Someone else installed the software on your computer under their Windows account. The installation program prompted you to reboot your computer. You rebooted your computer and logged back into Windows using your account. You receive an error message advising you that the installation cannot be completed.

Solution: Reboot the computer again and log into Windows using the same account under which the installation program was started, or an account that has exactly the same privileges. For example, if the installation was started using a Power User account then it must be resumed under a Power User account.

Roll-out Silently to Users on the Network Situation: You have a large number of network users. You do not want users to run the ADDFUVSR program themselves, nor do you want to go to each machine to install it using an administrative account.

Solution: Use the Silent Install option. See Appendix A on page 28.

Launcher Shortcut Doesn’t Work on Network User Computer Situation: CCH Publications has been installed for use in a network environment. Each user’s computer is set up by running the user setup program (ADDFVUSR) on their computer. The user setup program completed without error but the Launcher shortcut doesn’t work.

Page 26: CCHPublications–FolioViews4 · CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any

CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 Installation Guide

Solution: Check that the user machine accessed the user setup program in the same manner as the network files were installed. For example, if your system administrator installed the software to a UNC path, then the user must access the user setup program from that UNC path. If your system administrator installed the software to a mapped drive, then the user must access that user setup program from that same mapped drive letter. Ask your system administrator how they installed the software and then re-run the setup program in the same manner.

Links Between Infobases Do Not Work As Expected / UNC Paths Situation: You installed CCH Publications to a UNC path that includes spaces in the path specification. You see the hypertext links in the infobases, but when you click them they do not work.

Solution: UNC paths with spaces cause problems with many applications installed on your computer. Ask your system administrator to re-install the program to a UNC path that does not include spaces.

Situation: You installed CCH Publications to the root of the UNC path. You see the hypertext links in the infobases, but when you click them they do not work.

Solution: You cannot install to the root of the UNC path. All UNC paths must comply with the following syntax: \\<server name>\<share>\<installation folder>. Ask your system administrator to re-install the program.

Appendix A: Using a Silent Install to Set Up Network Users.

1. Perform a network installation. See Installing CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7 on a Network Server on page 11.

2. Once the administrative installation is complete, move to a network user computer, log in using an account with Administrative privileges, and create the response file for the silent install.

On the user computer, click the Windows Start button and then click Run. In the Open field, type the following command line, where <network path> is the path to the location containing the network installation files (from step 1), and then click OK:

<network path>:\Network\Setup\addfvusr.exe –r For example, if your network path is K:\CCH Library, then type the following and click OK:

K:\CCH Library\Network\Setup\addfvusr.exe -r For example, if your network path is \\apps\research\CCH, then type the following and click OK:

\\apps\research\CCH\Network\Setup\addfvusr.exe -r Note About Creating the Response File: You cannot create the response file on the administrative computer. You must create the response file on a typical user computer under a Windows account that has administrative privileges.

Note to Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional Users: To install CCH Publications – Folio Views 4.7, your Windows account will need Power User privileges. Once installed, you can run CCH Publications under any Windows user account that has read/write access to the infobase folder. Contact your system administrator for more information.

Note About Referenced Paths: Users must access the user setup program according to how the network installation was performed, either through a UNC path or the same mapped drive letter. Consider the following examples:

UNC Example – If the network install was performed to a UNC path such as \\apps\research\CCH that is accessible to all users, then users must connect to \\apps\research\CCH to run the user setup program (see the next procedure). If users connect to \\apps\research\CCH using a mapped drive, it will not work properly.

Mapped Drive Example – If the network install was performed to a mapped network path such as M:\research\CCH that is accessible to all users, then users must connect to that path using the mapped drive M on their own computer. If users connect to the path using a UNC path or another drive letter mapping, the user setup program will not work properly.

This process creates a response file (SETUP.ISS) in your local Windows folder.

3. Copy the SETUP.ISS file from your Windows folder to the \Network\Setup subfolder of the network directory to which you installed the CCH Publications application files (from step 1).

4. Deploy the ADDFVUSR program silently using the –s switch. Users may run this command themselves, or you may add this to any automated login script you have.
