He gave the following guidelines which will be helpful in assessing a child

through this academic year-

1.  He asked all the participants to use variety of tools to asses a child.

2.  To observe the potential of a child and what he is learning from other

sources apart from school education.

3.  Continuous watch and to keep record of each & every child honestly.

4.  Provide proper feedback to the students and to motivate them rather

than criticizing them about their poor performance.

5.  Not to make comparisons between students, which might demoralize a

slow learner and not to make any negative statement or remark about a

student.

6.  To always crosscheck whether the student has learnt whatever is taught

in the class.

7.  He asked the entire teachers to record the progress of a child for a

certain period, which will give an idea about the learning Capacity of 

that particular child.

8.  To interact with the students apart from the regular classes.

The second session was initiated by Dr. Jaideep Das, Education OfficerKendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Regional Office, Guwahati.

The second session began with an introduction of all the Art teachers.

Dr. Jaideep Das discussed about the KVS syllabus on Art Education and also

finer aspects of CCE and the role of Art teachers. He also discussed the

following points in his talk-

1.  Discussed elaborately on the Art Syllabus designed by KVS and asked all

the participants to go through it and to use it while planning lessons or

activities.

2.  He discussed about the various Art competitions where students and

teachers can participate, which will give them exposure.

3.  To use computer for teaching and showcasing the work of the students

and to display the works online which may get appreciation by larger

number of viewers?

4.  To practice art regularly and keep ourselves updated with the latest

knowledge about our subject.

5.  Importance of grouping the students according to their caliber and

potential and to appreciate the creativity and new thinking process.

6.  To display the art works on school website and think quest regularly.

7.  To go through the text books of all other subjects and to club art with

other subjects to make learning more interesting.

8.  To have school level workshop on free hand drawing with primary

teachers, this will help them in teaching effectively by using visuals.

9.  To do teaching in a systematic and planned way and to keep records and

give the grades according to that.

10. He discussed the importance of art teachers like any other subject

teacher.

After the talk of Dr. Jaideep Das, the participants clarified their doubts about

CCE and shared their problems and obstacles which they are facing.

This session was then continued by Mr. Deb, who demonstrated the software

which could help the teachers in giving grades according to the CCE. This

session ended at 1.30 pm, followed by lunch break.

The third session started at 2.00 pm.

In the third session Mr. Anutosh Deb, explained about different programs

launched by KVS for professional development of teachers and all round

development of the students. He spoke about the importance of Think Quest

and how it could be used to provide meaningful exposure to the students and

the teachers particularly to showcase their artistic talents. The users will also

learn the 21st

Century skills and project based learning.

Mr Deb, urged the Art teachers to join this project and enjoy the benefits of 

collaborative learning globally. The teachers require to get their user ID’s

created and to work regularly on think quest.

There was a brief talk by Mr. Satender Singh, TGT (Art Education) Kendriya

Vidyalaya IIT Guwahati who shared about his experiences working on Think

Quest. Mr Singh spoke on how he has innovatively used this online project to

showcase the art works of the students of his Vidyalaya.

After the talk of Mr. Singh, Mr. Deb discussed about planning and writing the

teachers diary which was followed by a brainstorming session where teachers

discussed about various issues like availability of art rooms, block periods, art

materials, requirement of computers, teachers diary etc. He suggested that the

use of computer would be essentially useful for maintaining record in

connection with CCE.

Shri. R.N. Pandey, Principal K.V.NFR Maligaon, was present in the last session

and noted down the suggestions given by the participants and promised it totake it forward to the higher authorities.

VARIOUS ART EXHIBITION AT REGIONAL, NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONALLEVELS WHERE A VIDYALAYA MAY PARTICIPATE.

It was suggested that encouragement for participation in Art Exhibition and

Competitions should be recognized by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and the

Government of India. Participation to local competitions requiring an entry fees

should be regulated.

The following Annual Competitions were suggested by the teachers.

1.  All KVS recognized /organized Art Exhibitions and Competitions.

2.  Social science exhibitions

3.  Camel Color Contest organized by Camel Art Foundation

4.  Fevicryl Art Competitions

5.  KVS National Art Competitions organized by K.V.ONGC Rajahmundry.

6.  Inter school competitions

7.  Contests organized by internationally recognised organisations e.g.

Google, National Geographic Channel, Look and learn UK etc.

8.  Online Art Contests eg. www.lookandlearn.com  AND www.thinkquest.org should be given preference. 

9.  The Shankar’s International Contest.

10. Any other recognised competitions as mentioned above.

SUGGESTIONS:

Keeping in view with the suggestions made by NCF 2005 and CCE the teachersfelt the need of the following infrastructure at school level and made thefollowing suggestions anonymously … 

1.  There could be block periods for Art Classes.

2.  Art room (Not Department) with suitable furniture for accommodating a

full class strength with the following … 

a)  Running water supply with a wash basin.

b)  Drawing boards of ½ Imperial size.

c)  Wooden Racks for storing the completed Art Works.

d)  A corner for conducting sculpture classes with materials.

e)  Display board for display of Art Works.

f)  White board with markers.

g)  Adjustable frames with mount boards for display of art which may be

changed at regular intervals and can be displayed in prime locations

in the Vidyalaya.

h)  Proper light arrangements for visibility inside the classroom.

i)  Art materials as and when required.

3.  A computer with a printer and scanner.

4.  A library to be developed and maintained with a framed collection of 

prints of Art works of Old Masters and reference books.

5.  Examination should be held twice in a session at par with the regular

Examination schedule and the result should be the summative

assessment.

6.  Art Exhibitions should also be a part of the Vidyalaya Curriculum.

7.  Art Exhibitions may be organised at the Regional Level also.
