out) and Wallace, way back where there wasn't hot waterpart 01 the day, kept our records straight and the pay coming.

What will happen to us once we return to the States isanybody's guess. Most of us should soon return to civilianlife, and what will happen to us then is up to us. We havepassed through the "it's in the cards" stage. Perhaps ourexperiences have made us better men - more competentto accept responsibihities, bear up under hard times, and toget along with our fellow-men. If so, then our privations, discomforts and tragic losses might not have been for nothing.Perhaps too, we have learned that Americans are not different, basically from other peoples ... that Europeans are like us,but haven't our advantages. Europe has troubles which arevery definitely our concern, and if we go home feeling thatthe British are stupid, the French corrupt, the Italians,Poles and Russians inferior to us, while the Germans areclean, methodical and hardworking, then we shall havesacrificed lives and blood for nothing. So far, our thinkinghas been somewhat corrupted by what we have allowedourselves to believe; but let us not forget who our enemieswere and are, and who our allies have been. We are thefuture leaders of America, and many of the ideas which we,shall have of the rest of the world are being formed here. Our lathers went through what we have just finished, andhow we use what we have learned will determine whetheror not our sons are sent over here to fight.

With the fervent hope that there will be no more bloodyconflicts in which we, or children, or mankind will be involved, we close this account of Dog Company - - - -
