Q. What is Mitra Transerval?A.It is a platform where we teach math to children. Here we try to teach the subject- math in such a way that the children don't consider it as a big hurdle or a complex subject. To make the subject simple we have different activities, we use games and most importantly we have divided math into different concepts with stories which in turn helps us to remove the fear of math from children.

Mr. Mohan Basnet's expertise and conviction to solve complex matter with simplicity in the field of education inspired me to shoot with him. Filming his life gave me an opportunity to know his 'calling' and contribution towards children. From him I learnt that we should have a vision to fulfil God's will in our life.

THE MATH FORMULA OF

FULFILLING GOD'S VISION Q. How did you know your vision?A.

Q. How long have you been working among children?A.

Q. There is a promise from God which has helped you in life. What is it?A.

Q. What is your message for the readers of Foundations?A.

God has given me different opportunities to speak with children. One thopportunity which I still remember was when I completed my class 10

examination and my neighbor asked me if I would teach mathematics to my friends because they were not able to perform well in their exams. This was a challenge for me. I prayed to God and asked Him to show me my vision. That was the time when I started teaching my friends. They studied and appeared for their examination and when the results were out, they passed. This inspired me and I understood that my vision was to help others.

It's been 15 years since I became a teacher. I'm friends with children and in order to teach, understand and bring a child to a certain level I believe that we have to be friends with them.

I received a promise from God for my life which is – whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). This promise has helped me move ahead in life despite all odds, fulfilling my vision and God's will.

Today's generation doesn't know what their problems are. When we don't know our problems we will not be able to find solutions to them. We first need to understand our problems, accept them, and then will we be able to find solutions to them.

Interview with Mohan Kumar Basnet, a teacher

who is helping children overcome their fear of math,

Many plants produce special substances in their roots, leaves, flowers, or seeds that help them to survive. Since the earliest times, humans have gathered these substances to prepare herbal medicines to treat certain diseases. Many of the powerful drugs used in modern medicine have their origin in plants. Today's plant-based drugs treat a range of diseases, from headaches to cancer.

The Bible says that God has given us the leaves of trees as medicine. “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing." (Ezekiel 47:12)

Ancient cultures used many herbal remedies. Today, modern medicine has rediscovered what the Bible has said all along – there are healing compounds found in plants. “And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:2)

God wants us to have thankful hearts! The Bible tells us, Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (1

Thessalonians 5:18). I am deeply grateful to all of you who prayed for me during my heart surgery – and to the Lord for His great faithfulness in answering those fervent prayers! As I think about the wide variety of

medicines, surgical procedures, doctors, and hospitals that are available here in the U.S., I praise God for all He has provided. I remember, too, the desperately poor people I've met in Africa, India, and other places around the world. They don't even have aspirin or band-aids, and their water is filled with germs. Even when our country experiences hard times, we have much to be thankful for. Having a continuing attitude of gratefulness to our Father in heaven sets us apart from the world. In Philippians, Paul tells us that as we give thanks, You may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life (Philippians 2:14-16). May God bless you for shining like stars as together we help the poor and needy, bringing His life changing Word to the world!

When Shubham came from Bihar to Dehradun with his parents for a better livelihood, their poor financial condition did not allow him to join school. He felt miserable abut this and often spent the entire day at his uncle's shop. Then one day, his father learnt about a Child Development Centre (CDC) run by CBN Foundation that provided quality education. Shubham enrolled and is once again a happy school boy who dreams of being a doctor.

Kari Ganapathi, an agricultural laborer with a wife and two children, was diagnosed with leprosy a few years ago and developed multiple deformities. The sole bread winner of the family, he could not use his hands and feet after his illness. His wife began working as a laborer to sustain the family. CBN Foundation along with its partner, Operation Blessing India (OBI), came forward to provide Ganapathi the surgeries he needed. He also underwent physiotherapy sessions and is now able to use all his limbs freely. To help the family get on their feet, they were also given a milk cow as a means of livelihood.

thLatha is a widow and her son, Mahesh, studies in the 9 grade. She has a tiny shop in which she sells children's snacks. Her daily income was very low so when she needed extra money for Mahesh's education, she would work as a laborer in the fields. Mahesh had to man the shop in her absence and both were very taxed. One day, they heard about the Community Development Centre (CDC) run by CBN Foundation's partner, OBI. Mahesh started attending the evening classes held in Sultanabadh, he also received free school uniforms and stationery to support him and Lata got provisions for the shop. Now Lata doesn't need to work overtime and Mahesh too can concentrate on his studies without having to attend to the shop.

Sapna, a 13-year-old girl moved from Rajasthan to Faridabad with her parents, when they came in search of work. Being a girl, not much importance was given to her education and she was not enrolled in school. CBN Foundation's CDC was running in Faridabad and soon Sapna started going for after-school classes at the center. She enjoyed learning there so much that she wanted to join regular school. With her father's permission, the CBN Foundation animator took Sapna to the local state-run school and got her admitted there. Today Sapna and her parents are happy as she is able to go back to school without a financial burden on the family.

These immortal lines were spoken by a Shunamite woman in the time of Elisha the prophet, 850-800 BC. If

you read the story, you will find an alarming situation that had made this woman rush out of her home in Shunem to cover a distance of 15 miles or more, as fast as a donkey could go. Her little boy was dead, and she sought Elisha, whom the Bible refers to as a man of God. Elisha understands her being “in bitter distress” and yet when Elisha's servant asked her “Are you all right?”...“Everything is all right,” she said.

It takes faith to respond like that. How often have you been “in bitter distress”? How often have you responded like the Shunamite? The Bible tells us that we are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body…therefore we do not lose heart. (2 Corinthians 8-10, 16)

Elisha had prophesied that this Shunamite woman would have a child and the story goes on to say that this happened and the child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers. He said to his father, “My head! My head!” His father told a servant, “Carry him to his mother.” After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died (2 Kings 4:18 & 19).

The Lord's Word says Seek me and Live (Amos 5:4). The story goes on to reveal that when the Shunamite reached Mount Carmel, Elisha returned with the woman and miraculously restored her son back to life. It was worth her while to leave her home as fast as she could to seek the man of God. It was worth her while to respond “everything is alright”. It was worth her while to remember that no matter what, we fix not on what is seen, but on what is unseen (2 Corinthians 18).

This extraordinary story of faith has a happy ending, but I have a friend whose son, 14 years of age, came home one day and said “my head, my head”. Some hours later in a hospital he passed away. If there is anyone who has seen “bitter distress”, it is she. In the years after, she developed an auto-immune disease that they say is caused by stress. To me, this is an extraordinary story of faith too and even if you can't see it, it has a happy ending, because despite the circumstances, she is a shining example to all who know her. She remains cheerful, stays strong and rejoicing. If you asked her today, “Are you all right?” I think her response will be like that of the Shunamite woman, “Everything is all right”. God remembers people like that, is mindful of their suffering and rewards their faith.

For while in the world they may be seen as counter cultural, to us who believe, their astonishing faith gives us strength. Faith so strong it can bring streams in the desert. So needed in a world so dry of hope.

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well (3 John 2).
