    The Cayman International School Strategic Planning Council met in May2008 to revisit the schools mission statement, beliefs, parameters andobjectives. Three newly formulated and broad based objectives weredeveloped. The revised mission statement, beliefs and objectives wereapproved by the Board and are noted below. In September 2008, ActionCommittees were established to develop yearly plans for each objective.These plans will be presented to the Strategic Planning Council andreviewed annually.

    Parameters

    CIS shall always meet the requirements for private schools under theCayman Ministry of Education.

    We will only allow policies, procedures or behavior that promotes thegrowth and achievement of students.

    All energies will be focused on instructional and extra-curricularprograms.

    CIS shall always remain accredited by a U.S. regional agency andother recognized international agencies.

    We will not tolerate behavior that diminishes the dignity, self-worthor safety of any individual.

    All programs and services must be consistent with the strategic plan.

    CIS will only accept and retain those students for whom there is anexisting appropriate educational program.

    All decisions will be made based on assuring the school remainsfiscally responsible and operates within its own resources.

    As a proprietary school, CIS may differ from non-profit institutions inits decision making processes and its policy making.

    Timeline Activity

    September 2008 o Design, implement and track use of common literacyassessments within grade levels.

    November 2008o Implement parent presentations covering various topics at CIS.

    January 2009 o Initiate and re-examine our approach to the standardizedtesting in order to ensure the test meets assessment needs anduse the results meaningfully.

    Spring 2009 o Utilize standardized testing as a tool for instruction due to theearlier testing period for student learning.

    2008-2009o Implement the curriculum review cycle for Math.

    Timeline Activity

    September 2009 o Use Atlas Rubicon to ensure the curriculum standards are beingmet. Provide In-Service May 2009.

    Fall 2009 o Collaborate, research, review and design a new report card forMS/HS to reflect benchmark and standards (Admin Plus).

    Fall 2009 o Establish a media committee which includes technology andlibrary resources. The committee would evaluate tools forpurchasing, have input in ordering and fundraising.

    Fall 2009 o Develop a school wide assessment which includes earlychildhood and elementary portfolios and encourages reflectivelearning for all students.

    Fall 2009 o Develop clear guidelines, procedures and steps for teacherreferrals regarding student support.

    Fall 2009 o Review Academic Requirements for graduation for IB and

    electives being offered by establishing a scope and sequence formiddle and high school.

    Fall 2009 o Explore and identify opportunities to celebrate academic andextracurricular success.

    November 2009 o Identify additional/alternative media technology resources toenhance curriculum and student achievement. (Smart Boards)

    2009-2010 o Implement the curriculum review cycle for Social Studies andTechnology.

    June 2010 o Plan a portfolio sharing time for students (K-5) to show his/herwork to parents of CIS due to the implementation of portfoliosfor the 2009-2010 school year.
