Introduction

The CATSA Portal provides external access to various internal CATSA applications for CATSA's partners such as Screening Contractors. The CATSA Portal is provisioned using a product from Microsoft called Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) 2010. Some of the applications on the CATSA Portal require software called Microsoft Forefront UAG Endpoint Components to be installed on the workstation from which the Portal is being accessed. Since it is difficult to determine exactly in which situations the Endpoint Components are required, it is recommended that all workstations used to access the CATSA Portal have the Endpoint Components installed. This guide explains how to determine whether the Endpoint Components have been installed, whether they are working, and how to install them if they are not already installed and working.

Note: The Endpoint Components were previously called the Client Components. The two names may be used interchangeably.

Note: As of the writing of this document, for best results use the CATSA Portal from Internet Explorer 8 or

9 on 32-bit Windows 7. While UAG officially supports other operating systems and browsers, not all components may work. CATSA will only provide support for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, 2003 or 2008 running Internet Explorer 7, 8 or 9.

Determining the version of installed Endpoint Components

The following methods may be used to determine whether the Endpoint Components

are installed and which version they are.

1. Preferred method: In the Portal To use the CATSA Portal to determine the version of Endpoint Components installed on the workstation, go to https://portal.catsa.gc.ca/ and log in using your username, CATSA Password and RSA Password. Once logged in, click on the System Information Icon which looks like:

or

Its position is indicated by the red circle below.

A window like the following will pop up. This one indicates that the Endpoint Component Manager version is 4.0.1773.10100, which is slightly old. The current version as of the writing of this document is 4.0.2095.10000.

2. Alternate method: In Control Panel In Windows 7, go to the Start menu and select Control Panel. Make sure "View by" is set to "Category" and then click "Uninstall a program".

When the "Uninstall or change a program" window comes up, look for any item resembling "Microsoft Forefront UAG endpoint components", "Whale Client Components", "IAG Client Components" or "Intelligent Access Gateway Client Components".

As of the writing of this document, the latest Endpoint Components identify themselves as "Microsoft Forefront UAG endpoint components v4.0.0". As you can see, this version information is not as accurate as the information found within the Portal.

3. What to do with this information If you do not have any endpoint or client components or an old version, you should install the latest version. Please click the link on the CATSA Portal login page (https://portal.catsa.gc.ca/) for the latest version.

To install the new software, you must have Administrator privileges. If you are not an Administrator on your workstation, you must get an Administrator to install the software. Please send this document to your company's IT Help Desk.

It is recommended that you remove any existing Endpoint or Client Components via the Control Panel before installing the latest Endpoint Components.

Installing the Endpoint Components

1. Download the latest version For the latest version of the Endpoint Components, go to http://portal.catsa.gc.ca/ and click on the link.

If the installation was not successful, keep in mind that the most common cause is not having high enough privileges on the workstation.

Connecting to the CATSA Portal

Go to https://portal.catsa.gc.ca/

1. Pop-ups allowed The first time you connect to the CATSA Portal, you may be prompted to allow pop-ups. Go ahead and do this by clicking "Yes". (It is not necessary to select the "Do not show this message again" checkbox.)

2. Trust the site The first time you connect to the CATSA Portal, you may be prompted whether you wish to trust the site to start applications or retrieve security information from your computer. Check the "Trust the site" box, select "Always" (if you don't want to be asked this question every time you log in) and then click the "Trust" button.

Note: If you are logging in for the first time, are not seeing this window and seem to be stuck at a blank

screen, it may be that this window is open in the background. Usually hitting Alt-Tab will bring it to the foreground so that you can choose to trust the site.

Following the steps above, the CATSA Portal page should come up with a choice of applications to which you have access. How to use the Portal and its applications is beyond the scope of this document. If you need help with using the Portal, see the Support section at the end of this document.

Centralized Deployment

On a domain, it is possible for Administrators to deploy the Endpoint Components and manage trusted sites centrally and without user involvement. More information on this and other aspects of Endpoint Component administration may be obtained from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=52
