Welcome/Prayer

Welcome and introduction of Fr. Ragan Schriver

Prayer to Reduce Poverty in AmericaGood and Gracious God, we pray for your assistance

in alleviating the pain and needless struggles of our brothers and sisters in need. Working together and with your grace, we know that each person deserves and should have affordable housing, adequate food, health care, and economic security.

Loving God, we know that “whatever we ask, in your name, it will be granted to us.” So help us in trying to alleviate poverty, and may our efforts give you praise and be a sign of your kingdom on earth. Amen.

Case Study

A program manager within our local Catholic Charities agency has chosen to give one of the staff an increase in compensation. The regional director notices that the request for the raise has gone to payroll without the director’s signature (per agency policy). Other staff in this program have worked there longer and did not receive an increase. What issues need to be addressed in relation to social responsibility?

Case Study

A program manager in a Homeless Shelter which is a part of the Catholic Social Services has noticed on several of the front line staff calendars the “Homeless Coalition” meetings. She becomes concerned about coverage for shifts, paying hourly wages for persons to go outside their jobs, and fairness of some staff going off to a meeting while other shifts must stay at the shelter the whole shift. What issues come up in relation to the Social Responsibility standards?
