About Catholic Charities MaineCatholic Charities Maine has been serving the poor and
vulnerable populations of Maine since 1966. From food banks
to dental care to child development centers, their network of over
600 professionals and 700+ volunteers work tirelessly for this
faith-based, non-profit organization that serves nearly 50,000
people in need throughout the state of Maine. The organization
operates with a multimillion-dollar budget, has 23 locations
and provides over 20 programs and services spread across
the region. Steve Letourneau, who joined Catholic Charities in
1997 and has been serving in the capacity of CEO since 2007,
works closely with Dan Bazemore, Chief Financial Officer, to
oversee the ever- increasingly complex IT needs of the charity.
IT ChallengeManaging and implementing the many programs across the
state of Maine requires a sophisticated IT network; Catholic
Charities employees are connected via 300 PCs, 100 laptops
and 300 cell phones that must run 24/7. In addition, there are
over 10 distinct software applications that are unique to specific
programs of Catholic Charities. These systems are mission
critical and must work seamlessly and efficiently so employees
and volunteers have access to the programs that support their
important work.
Before partnering with Logically, Catholic Charities had an
in-house IT department. They then decided to outsource their IT
and worked with two other Managed IT Service Providers (MSPs).
Catholic Charities did not want to build an internal IT department
because they knew they could not find the depth and breadth of
talent to handle all their complex IT requirements; instead, they
relied on outsourced IT organizations to assist them.
Unfortunately, approximately five years ago, there was a major
IT problem and the entire organization was offline for about
one week. This was clearly unacceptable, and at that point
the CEO called Logically for support. Logically swiftly assessed
the issue and got Catholic Charities up and running, restoring
services to the population they serve. After conducting an RFP
process, Catholic Charities formally contracted with Logically as
their MSP, and their contract provides full outsourced IT support,
including security, to the entire organization.

SOLUTION“I want it to be like I don’t even have an IT department,” says
Steve Letourneau. “The less I know, the better off we are.” In this
way, Steve underscores the importance of having a worry-free
IT situation, where he and his colleagues know that Logically
will seamlessly take care of any and all issues impacting them.
“Logically exceeded our expectations—they are very responsive.
We would never get the level of expertise in-house nor the caliber
and quality of oversight,” added Steve Letourneau.
Logically’s Care Teams proactively work with Catholic Charities’
IT steering committee, CFO, controller, and compliance
professional to plan and forecast the ever-changing
requirements of the organization.
Logically functions as a virtual extension of the Catholic
Charities’ team, participating in weekly conference calls
to discuss what occurred the prior week, reviewing ticket
reports, and prioritizing hardware and software upgrades.
In this way, Logically is an integral part of Catholic Charities’
IT strategy and planning.
While other MSPs may be focused on break/fix, Logically
has a long-range, proactive approach to their thinking.
One example is Logically’s suggestion that Catholic
Charities’ bandwidth across the state was not adequate
and they recommended increasing their WAN capability.
Logically worked closely with Catholic Charities to deliver
a fiber optic transformation, working with Consolidated
Communications, Catholic Charities’ telecom provider.
This critical project was successfully supervised by
Logically, another example of how Logically’s expertise
and innovative thinking set them apart from other MSPs.
The benefits of this transformation? Increased speed
and stability of their network—no lag time and according
to Steve Letourneau, “I can go to any location and work
on any PC just like it’s my desktop.”
What’s ahead for Catholic Charities? They are taking three
programs that are currently in two locations and consolidating
them into one location. “We want to become a more responsive
organization,” says Steve Letourneau. “It will save money in
the long run by having an economy of scale and services under
one roof, with no duplication of efforts, and we are confident that
Logically is going to smoothly and efficiently handle it all for us.”
And, of course, there’s the future of telehealth, which Catholic
Charities is in the early stages of developing. They are also
looking to further automate their staff in the field for point-of-
care systems, from tablet to mobile phone, so their staff can
handle clinical notes and interpreter services. Twenty-five years
ago, many of Catholic Charities’ services were provided in an
office setting. Today many services are deployed in the field,
which requires the most up-to-date technology and real-time
documentation. Making that digital transformation happen
always involves Logically. “We wouldn’t do anything without
Logically,” says Steve Letourneau.
