e First Generation of Courageous Traditionalists is DyingO; e Future is Le to the Second Generation

Observing the Traditional Movement for 50 years, I learned that the courageousleaders of the Traditional Movement in the 1960s and ’70s were mostly alone. eyworried about the future. eir pastors were against them. ey had little or nosupport and their family and friends severely criticized them. What they did have wasa great zeal for spreading and holding onto that traditional Faith.

In Roman times, martyrdom enlarged the Catholic Church and strengthened Faithand resolve. Somewhat similarly today, I believe that the tribulations suered whileghting and working to keep and spread the traditional Faith builds resolve. In theearly years aer Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in sevendierent buildings before the SSPX rst came to the U.S. is meant many long andsometimes hazardous miles. Furthermore, there was a time when we had no access touncompromising Sacraments and thus, read our Mass prayers at home. But all of thisinstilled a love and zeal for the Faith as something worth ghting for.

To better explain the dierence between the rst and second generations, I believe ananalogy will help. First, consider great wealth is like a strong faith in a certain respect.

Someone worked hard to earn that wealth and used it wisely supporting a family andfor charitable purposes. He probably also was very frugal and managed the wealthwisely. As life goes on and that person passes on, the wealth goes to the children, thesecond generation. No matter how well they were raised, the children seldom have thesame respect for the wealth as the one who worked hard to accumulate it. An oldsaying goes: “Parents earn the wealth and the children spend it until poor.”

Let’s complete the analogy that great wealth is like a strong Catholic Faith which isgiven to the second generation. Note that it is given to the second generation, whichmay not have made any real eort or have any appreciation of the gi. Like wealthgiven to the second generation, Faith given is oen treated with less appreciation andlittle personal commitment. e children oen lack the zeal for the Faith because theyreceived it without eort, hard work and the ght to obtain it and retain it. ey aremost likely to suander it like unearned wealth.

In the ‘60s and ‘70s when parishes became increasingly liberal as a result o Vatican II,the rst generation was the rst to leave. Today, as the “new” SSPX becomesincreasingly liberalism, the second generation mostly tends to stay put. Most second-generation Traditionalists don’t uestion changes or new approaches started by theirparishes or the NSSPX leaders. Misguided trust is fatal without prudent uestioningand investigating. I believe they don’t investigate change because they are afraid ofwhat they will nd, calling for action they are unwilling to take.

e future for the third and fourth generations is even bleaker.

What are we to do? Keep leading by example, pointing out where liberalism iscorrupting the Faith. Keep resisting liberalism and holding on to the uncompromising

Truth. e best way to preserve what you fought for or were given is to draw an

immovable line in the sand, i.e. , set the necessary benchmark to avoid gradualism.1

Fighting for the Faith is really a blessing in disguise. Fighting for the Faith gives onean appreciation and zeal to keep it and spread it.

An example of a good rst-generation Traditionalist is Archbishop Lefebvre, and ofsecond-generation, Bishop Fellay, who was given the Faith. While in high school, he

composed “eucharistic prayers” (i.e. , Conciliar “canons”),2 making little or no eort toseek the Traditional Catholic Faith. He was given the Faith by Archbishop Lefebvre inEcone. But over time, Bishop Fellay has greatly weakened and is now delivering theNSSPX to Modernist Rome.

Bishop Fellay’s eorts to convince the rest of the NSSPX to join Modernist Rome ismade easier because rst generation Traditionalists have mostly died o or havealready joined the Resistance, leaving the less committed second and third generation“tolerators” who are willing to go along to get along.

ere is another example of second-generation Traditionalists weakening over time.

It is the three bishops identied with the Resistance. e rst bishop to leave theNSSPX was Bishop Williamson who has weakened greatly and promotes manyreligious errors and is causing great scandal. (See many past Candle issues.)

Any priest or seminary that criticizes Bishop Williamson for his great scandals willreceive no help regarding Conrmations, Ordinations, holy oils (for ExtremeUnction), etc.

Bishop Williamson consecrated two bishops, Bishop Faure and Bishop Auinas. Bothbishops are “scared loyal” to Bishop Williamson, as they refuse to criticize him forpromoting error. ese two other bishops will not fulll their responsibilities asbishops, because of temporal considerations, viz., fearing retaliation from BishopWilliamson. In this they are like Judas (who was a bishop) who did not do his dutybecause of temporal considerations (viz., preferring thirty pieces of silver).

Bishops Faure and Auinas are spiritual cowards. Loyalty is good in most cases, butnot at the cost of one’s soul. Loyalty to a man does not trump loyalty to God andsaving souls. Bishops receive special graces for their state in life and are leaders by thevery nature of their Episcopacy. ey are obliged to teach and govern souls, to leadthem to God.

We must pray very hard that God will give courage to these timid second-generationbishops, so they fulll their responsibilities as bishops and stop scandalizing thefaithful.

We Answer Fr. Simoulin’s Challenge: e “New” SSPX’sCompromises are Legion!1

e “new” SSPX knows that some priests and laymen are aware of its liberalism butare afraid to openly oppose it. e “new” SSPX marginalizes them and works to keepthem scared and uiet.

But most of the “new” SSPX’s priests and followers keep themselves ignorant ofanything which would engage their consciences or reuire them to stand up againstthe “new” SSPX’s liberalism. e revolution now occurring in the “new” SSPX is likethe conciliar revolution which occurred aer Vatican II. Here is how the “old” SSPXdescribed that earlier revolution (beginning with Vatican II):

[B]y far the largest [group], making up perhaps 80% to 90% of thefaithful, tends to be apathetic. It never wanted the changes; it hadlittle interest in the changes; but it will do nothing to oppose them.is is not something that should shock or surprise us; it is a normalfact of the behavior of any social group or organization. ... isgeneral attitude of practical indierence is the greatest asset of anygroup fomenting a revolution. Revolutionaries do not need activesupport, simply minimal resisance, and when they can impose theirrevolution from above, as has happened since the Council, then a

successful revolution is virtually guaranteed.2

e “new” SSPX leadership knows it must periodically ensure that its priests andpeople remain asleep by assuring them that “nothing has changed” within the SSPX.

December 2016 - Catholic Candle 5 of 38

Page 6: Catholic Candle - St. Marys Kansas · PDF fileCatholic Candle December 2016 ... early years a er Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in seven ... is adri is

However, the “new” SSPX methodically brainwashes its priests and followers to acceptthe “new reality” of the conciliar church. When Bishop Fellay was recently asked “if theSSPX [can] be condent of the support of SSPX churchgoers for reconciliation [withRome]”, he stated:

It will be uite a work, and it will take time to be able to bring thefaithful to realize this new face in the history of the Church, this new

reality ....3

In a recent article published by the “new” SSPX, Fr. Michel Simoulin (former rector ofthe seminary) delivered a dose of tranuilizer to ensure that those weak,

low-information priests and followers remain asleep and pliable to brainwashing.4

Fr. Simoulin does this with rhetorical uestions to which he knows the “new” SSPX’suninformed sleepers don’t possess sucient facts to respond. As if the SSPX has notradically changed, he asks rhetorically:

What did our [present] superiors accept of the things ArchbishopLefebvre refused: the New Mass? e conciliar theories? Religiousliberty? e cult of Man? Indierentist ecumenism?

Id.

Because Fr. Simoulin will get no response from either the Society’s uninformed or itscowardly priests or followers, we answer his uestions for them, proving that theSociety has changed radically.

Fr. Simoulin’s rst uestion: “did our [present] superiors accept ... the New Mass?”

Catholic Candle’s answer: e “new” SSPX promotes the new mass and promotes muchthat is part of the new mass. To take just a few examples:

Bishop Fellay attended the new mass himself, showing by his ownexample the SSPX’s new position that the new mass is acceptable.

Aer he attended the new mass, he enthusiastically praised it.5

Bishop Fellay’s two assistants also attended the new mass whenvisiting Pope Francis, showing by their own example the “new”

SSPX’s position that the new mass is acceptable.6

e “new” SSPX says the new mass gives grace.7 In reality, the new

mass never gives grace.8➢

Bishop Fellay says that “what needs to be corrected” in the new

mass are things like making a better vernacular translation.9 istells people that the “new” SSPX does not have a problem with thenew mass itself.

e “new” SSPX (falsely) says that our Baptismal Character shows

us the new mass is sometimes good and pleasing to God.10 (ishare-brained theory is a Fellay novelty. Id.)

Bishop Fellay promotes a hybrid mixture of the new mass and

Traditional Mass;11➢

Bishop Fellay laughed and smiled while recounting his liturgicalexperimentation as a teenager, viz., creating new “eucharisticprayers” for the new mass that was used by his conciliar high school. In this video interview, Bishop Fellay showed no sign that the newmass is bad or that his creating new “eucharistic prayers” was

wrong;12

Bishop Fellay stated that the new mass is legitimately

promulgated13 (although nothing can be “legitimately promulgated”which is not legitimate, because promulgating evil is neverlegitimate).

e “new” SSPX promotes the new mass through publishing thestatements of (so-called) “conservative” conciliar revolutionaries(e.g., cardinals), such as these statements: “we run the risk of makingour worship [viz., the new mass] too human” and “the main reasonwhy contemporary liturgy [sic] is adri is the priest’s position

turned toward the people.”14 By promoting such truly-absurdstatements, the “new” SSPX shows its followers that the problems

Fr. Simoulin’s second and third uestions: “did our [present] superiors accept ... theconciliar theories? Religious liberty?”

Catholic Candle’s answer: e “new” SSPX promotes conciliar theories, includingreligious liberty. Here are a few examples:

with the new mass are the manner in which it is oen said, therebyshowing that the new mass itself is not the problem.

e “new” SSPX promotes making the Traditional Mass more like

the new mass by using the Traditional Mass in the vernacular.15

is is a step to breaking down opposition within the “new” SSPXto the new mass in the vernacular. e conciliar church used thissame tactic to introduce the new mass in the 1960s.

e “new” SSPX has begun calling the Traditional Mass by its

conciliar name, viz., the “extraordinary form”.16 is name showsthere is also a dierent, ordinary “option”, viz., the new mass.

is list does not address the “new” SSPX’s promotion of manyrelated evils such as accustoming its followers to conciliar things

connected with the new mass, e.g., ugly conciliar vestments,17 atable-type “altar” used for the new mass, and the tabernacle

separated from the table-“altar” and bolted to the wall.18

e “new” SSPX recently published an article about Islam’s hostilitytoward other religions. is article stressed the imporance of religiousliberty for every religion and omitted to state the Catholic truth that

error (including religious error) has no rights.19 e truth is that

only the true Catholic Faith has rights.20

e “new” SSPX did not contradict the Vatican’s “Archbishop”21

Pozzo (who is responsible for relations with the SSPX), whopublicly stated that the SSPX now accepts Vatican II’s religious

liberty.22

Bishop Fellay minimized the signicance o Vatican II’srevolutionary teaching on religious liberty, by saying (falsely) that it

is “a very, very limited one, very limited”.23

e “new” SSPX says we must continually change.24 is echoes theconciliar hierarchy, which continually emphasizes the need tochange, to “renew” ourselves, and to “ride the wave of revolution of

faith”.25

Vatican II contradicted the traditional teaching from the time of

the apostles, that the Jews committed Deicide.26 e “new” SSPXhas now adopted this conciliar error and denies the Church’s

teaching that the Jews did commit Deicide.27

ere are many errors taught in chapter 3 o Vatican II’s Lumen

Gentium. Only some of them are corrected or partially corrected byPope Paul VI’s inadeuate “band-aid” (supposed) “correction”,

which he called: “Nota explicativa prævia”.28

e “new” SSPXaccepts all the errors in Lumen Gentium, chapter 3, which are notcorrected by this “Nota explicativa prævia”. Here are the “new”SSPX’s words of betrayal: it now “accepts Vatican II’s Lumen

Gentium. [chapter 3] ... explained and interpreted by the Noa

explicativa prævia to this very chapter”.29

e “new” SSPX (falsely) says that conciliar leaders, such as Pope

Francis, abide in the truth and have been preserved from error.30

How can the “new” SSPX hold this unless the “new” SSPX acceptsPope Francis’s conciliar errors that Archbishop Lefebvre rejected?

e “new” SSPX (falsely) says Pope Francis appoints good bishops.31

How can the SSPX say this unless it also accepts the conciliar errorsthat these (supposedly) “good bishops” accept?

Pope John Paul II told the truth when he said that the new (1983)code of canon law is the practical implementation of (erroneous)

conciliar teaching.32 e “new” SSPX now promises to respect and

accept this modernist new code.33

e conciliar church refers to promotion o Vatican II as “e New

Evangelization”.34 Recently, the “new” SSPX declared that Pope

Fr. Simoulin’s fourth uestion: “did our [present] superiors accept ... the cult of Man?”

Catholic Candle’s answer: e “new” SSPX does promote many aspects of the cult ofman. Here are a few examples:

Francis sees the SSPX as a help in the New Evangelization. Id. Howcould this be if Pope Francis did not see the “new” SSPX as helpingpromote Vatican II?

Among countless other conciliar theories, is the error of degrees of

being in communion with the Catholic Church.35 e “new” SSPXindicates it accepts this conciliar theory by now using the term in“full communion”. Id.

Bishop Fellay says that Pope Francis is his friend, who says a lot of

things which now make the (new) SSPX happy.36 In reality, itwould be dicult or impossible to think of anything Pope Francissays which is not a “conciliar theory”.

More specically, Bishop Fellay says that Pope Francis’s exhortationon marriage “contains many things that are correct and

beautiful”.37 In reality, there is nothing in this vile, thoroughly-conciliar document which is not weak or heretical.

e “new” SSPX now publishes the sermons of Pope Francis, full of

conciliarism and humanism.38➢

One aspect of the “cult of man” is to focus on what the worldthinks. e “new” SSPX spent about $200,000 for a single, one-pagead in USA Today, to promote its bland, feel-good, naturalistic

message of “supporting families”.39

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is a focus on material concerns(money). e “new” SSPX now is fully-focused on money in

complete contrast to the “old” SSPX.40

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is the “new” SSPX promotingworldly desires in its followers. It heavily promotes the desire of

luxury goods, such as a Mercedes luxury sedan.41 e “new” SSPXfosters their followers’ worldly desire for this luxury car, to getthem to buy SSPX rae tickets. Leaving aside the unfortunate soulwhose salvation is now more dicult because he won this worldlystatus symbol, the “new” SSPX caused a countless number of itsfollowers to desire this worldliness. How opposite to Our Lord, teaching “Blessed are the poor in spirit” and that is it harder for arich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven than for a camel to gothrough the eye of a needle!

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is self-centeredness. e “new”

SSPX is focused on itself.42 e “new” SSPX constantly reminds itsfollowers how important it is and how much good the “new” SSPXdoes. Id.

e “old” SSPX used to rarely mention money and did not try toraise money by appealing to the selshness of donors. e “new”SSPX now constantly reminds donors “how much we do for you”

and how much benet they receive personally from the SSPX43

(although, in reality, the “new” SSPX does less and less for souls).

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is for an organization to focuson being popular and thus to create a false impression about itsgrowth. e SSPX now lies to convince people that it is constantly

growing.44

Besides “new” SSPX lies about its supposed “constant growth”, the“new” SSPX now lies about other matters also. e “new” SSPXnow focuses on whether what it says is believed, not whether it istrue. erefore, the “new” SSPX is willing to lie as long as it does

not get caught—as it sometimes does.45

One aspect of the “cult of man” is to imitate the world. Forexample, Pope Paul VI stated that the “modern world’s values [a]re

not only respected but honored”.46 Now, increasingly, the “new”SSPX respects the values of the world and wants to t in with theworld, even saying that the “new” SSPX is “very much like”

everyone else.47 e “new” SSPX no longer remembers what it islike to be a sign of contradiction, like Our Lord.

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is to adopt the “modesty”standards of the world. e “new” SSPX now progressively

promotes miniskirts, women with bare shoulders or exposed anks,

and women wearing trousers.48

Another aspect of the “cult of man” is the “new” SSPX acceptingand promoting television and movies. Because those entertainmentsharm souls and impede the spiritual life, the “old” SSPX always

rejected them.49 For this reason the “old” SSPX banned thoseentertainments for its priests, brothers and third order and urgedall its followers to shun those entertainments. at has all changed. Now, the “new” SSPX gives movie reviews, television reviews andpromotes TV programs and movies unless they are considered“vulgar”. e “new” SSPX publishes godless and humanistic nonsense, like athoroughly-conciliar “meditation” which begins by using what itcalls a “centering” techniue. is is syncretism and ecumenism! eSSPX is here promoting the vocabulary of yoga, eastern paganism,

and the New Age!50

e “new” SSPX promotes conciliar “saint” Katharine Drexel whomthe Vatican “canonized” to promote her opposition to racism and

her social justice and civil rights crusade.51 e SSPX joins theconciliar church promotion of this woman portrayed as a humanistsocial worker. Id.

e over-arching goal of all conciliar ecumenists is outward unionwith those who don’t share the true Catholic Faith. is goal isevident, e.g., in conciliar Rome’s agreements with the Lutherans. Now the “new” SSPX seeks this same type of ecumenical outwardunion with conciliar Rome, which (like the Lutherans) does notprofess the true Catholic Faith.

Another aspect of “indierentist ecumenism” is calling heretics bythe name “Christian”. is is un-Catholic and ecumenical because itputs heretical “religions” on the same par with the true CatholicReligion, by calling them by the same name. is common namealso falsely indicates that heretics are followers of Christ. e “new”

SSPX has adopted this conciliar practice.53

To further the goal of ecumenism, the conciliar church refers toheretics, who were killed for their heretical faith, as “martyrs”. eSSPX has begun following this un-Catholic, ecumenical practice of

Conclusion: Fr. Simoulin is a change agent for the “new” SSPX revolution. He did notexpect his rhetorical uestions would be answered. But this article shows that the“new” SSPX superiors accept many, many things that Archbishop Lefebvre refused.

And the list keeps growing.56

referring to heretics, who were killed for their heretical faith, as

It is rank conciliar ecumenism to dignify the false, merely-humanfaith of heretics by putting it on the same level as the truesupernatural Catholic Faith. Recently, the “new” SSPX has begunreferring to the false protestant faiths and the true Catholic Faith

together, as “the Christian Faith” (using the singular).55

e “New” SSPX Uses Only Conciliar Sources to DefendMarriage

Increasingly, the “new” SSPX aligns itself with the (so-called) “conservative” wing ofthe conciliar revolution by promoting their words which oppose certain positions ofthe more extreme revolutionaries.

One example of this tactic is the “new” SSPX’s recent publication of a reference list of

seven uotes related to the Catholic teaching regarding marriage.1 e “new” SSPXexplains that it publishes this list “in order to assist the faithful looking what [sic] theCatholic Church, up until recent times, taught rmly”. Id.

ere are three problems with what the NSSPX says.

First, the “new” SSPX’s seven uotes are all from conciliar sources, such as two apostolic exhortations of Pope John Paul II, and also his(evil) new (1992) Catechism of the Catholic Church. Id.

is NSSPX list does not contain any pre-Vatican II authoritiesand uses only “authorities” who are part of the conciliar revolutionand who teach rank modernism. is SSPX tactic conditions itspoor, blind followers to make judgments about the Faith in thesame way that most conciliar Catholics do, viz., using only conciliarsources. e “new” SSPX’s message to its followers is clear: if you areunsure whether Pope Francis is teaching the truth, compare histeachings to (conciliar) authorities such as Pope John Paul II.

December 2016 - Catholic Candle 25 of 38

Page 26: Catholic Candle - St. Marys Kansas · PDF fileCatholic Candle December 2016 ... early years a er Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in seven ... is adri is

Although Pope John Paul II was a valid pope, his teachings were sovery full of errors that no genuine Traditional Catholic would ever

look to his words to determine what the Catholic Churchteaches—as the “new” SSPX wants its followers to do. Instead, theonly safe course is to first determine what the Catholic Churchteaches and then determine whether Pope John Paul II contradicts

the truth on the particular issue.2 Any faithful Catholic does not

rely on Pope John Paul II to learn what the truth is!

By uoting Pope John Paul II to prove the truth, the “new” SSPX isas insidious as a person would be by uoting Martin Luther toprove the doctrine of transubstantiation. Although Luther does give

some support for this doctrine,3 no faithful Catholic would ever usehis “authority” because Luther is so full of grave errors. e same istrue of Pope John Paul II.

Second, the (new) SSPX indicates that the Catholic Church

currently does not teach rmly the truth She used to teach rmly.4

at is false!

e Catholic Church always rmly teaches the truth and neverstops teaching it rmly! e truths of the Catholic Faith andmorals never change. e Church’s rmness with which She teaches, also never changes.

Page 27: Catholic Candle - St. Marys Kansas · PDF fileCatholic Candle December 2016 ... early years a er Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in seven ... is adri is

If a leader (in the human element) of the Church teaches heresy, that merely means he is an unworthy shepherd and that he isteaching his own errors rather than the truth which the CatholicChurch never ceases to teach rmly.

If the firmness of the Catholic Church’s teaching were to depend onthe declarations of the modernist hierarchy (as the “new” SSPXasserts here about marriage), then the statements of that samemodernist hierarchy would cause the Catholic Church to entirely

stop teaching some dogmas (because the modernist hierarchy hasstopped teaching those dogmas). at is false and heretical! In this, the “new” SSPX would agree with all modernists, who claim thatpast dogmas can cease to be taught by the Catholic Church.

ird, the so, weak “new” SSPX makes matters even worse in thesame article, by saying that the conciliar authorities it uotes“appear to be at odds with some of the contents of Pope Francis’sexhortation.” Id. (emphasis added).

e “new” SSPX shows its weak condition by being unable tomuster enough strength to simply declare that Pope Francis teacheserror. Instead, the “new” SSPX timidly says that his words “appear tobe at odds” with the seven uotes it gives from conciliar“authorities”! is ts with the “new” SSPX’s recent statement

indicating that Pope Francis abides in the truth.5

e “New” SSPX Now Publishes Reviews o TelevisionPrograms

e “old” SSPX used to tell the Faithful not to watch TV or even possess a TV.1

e “new” SSPX now even gives its ird Order members permission to watch TV,contradicting the entire history of the SSPX ird Order and also the plain words of

the ird Order Rule still in eect.2

e “new” SSPX now publishes movie reviews, completely reversing the “old” SSPX

rejection of all movies.3

In addition, the “new” SSPX recently began even publishing reviews o TV programs.4

Take the example of one such recent review which was done in the style of any worldlyor secular reviewer. Although the reviewer notes that the particular TV series mocksthe papacy and is “extremely serious”, he praises it as having “many strong scenes” andhaving “a rst-class cast”. He remarks that the pope is portrayed as a “traditionalist”and also as a “compulsive smoker [who] wears ip-ops” and “exhorts people to sinand not feel guilty about it anymore”. Id.

e reviewer recounts that, in the TV series, the pope’s “special secretary” is a womanwho wears a T-shirt promoting the impure and blasphemous song “Like a Virgin”,sung by the despicable singer blasphemously named “Madonna”. Id.

Nowhere does the “new” SSPX tell its readers not to watch TV—or even not to watchthis particular TV series. Instead, the TV review fosters an evil and idle curiosity tosee for ourselves the controversial TV series. Is there any limit to the NSSPX’s

soul-destroying practices?

When the SSPX recently gave permission for its ird Order to watch TV, the “new”SSPX “limited” this permission to watching only TV programs which are not

“vulgar”.5 But the “new” SSPX le it up to every individual to decide by what sandard

a TV show should be considered “vulgar”. Id.

Now, with the “new” SSPX’s promotion of this TV series—with all of its blasphemy, materialism, impurity and other evils—the “new” SSPX helps its readers see just howpermissive its “no-vulgarity” standard really is.

Bishop Williamson Declares Traditional Catholics Can Attendthe New Mass and get Grace from it

Bishop Williamson used to say that no one should ever attend the new mass.1 He furtherdeclared that no one should attend the new mass any more than a person should

attend a satanic mass.2

en Bishop Williamson began to contradict himself and to say the exact opposite. He

began to say that a person should attend the new mass if it helps him.3

is “new” Bishop Williamson now continues to “unpack” the logical conseuences of

his new, liberal, subjectivist4 principle, which he formulates this way:

Do whatever you need to nourish your Faith.5

Bishop Williamson now declares that a person can attend not only a new mass butalso a feeneyite mass or a sedevacantist mass, provided the person feels it helps

“nourish” his faith, in his personal situation.6

Further, this “new” Bishop Williamson falsely and scandalously promotes the Anglican

sect as a place where a person can nd truth and the true worship of God.7

In case anyone (wrongly) assumes that Bishop Williamson’s promotion of attendingthe new mass applied only to poor, invincibly-ignorant, conciliar Catholics, he

December 2016 - Catholic Candle 31 of 38

Page 32: Catholic Candle - St. Marys Kansas · PDF fileCatholic Candle December 2016 ... early years a er Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in seven ... is adri is

recently showed that this assumption is false and that even all well-informedTraditional Catholics can receive grace at the new mass. Here are his words:

uestion: en, does it mean that those knowing what they know, such as

the souls here, could go to that [Novus Ordo Mass] and expect to receive

grace?

Bishop Williamson: If anybody here who knows what the NovusOrdo means went back to the Novus Ordo—p!—then[pause]—why would they want to go back? [laughter] Well, it’s—I

would—they can receive grace. But they have to judge the priest ...8

Bishop Williamson is wrong that the new mass ever gives grace, as shown by theprinciples laid out by the Council o Trent, St. omas Auinas and many other

Doctors and Fathers of the Church.9 In asserting that the new mass gives grace,Bishop Williamson also contradicts the truth that Archbishop Lefebvre handed down

to him.10

Bishop Williamson approves o Traditional Catholics attending some new masses, though not other ones, because—he insists—“many” —but not all —Novus OrdoMasses “push toward liberalism”. Here are his recent words to Traditional Catholics inTexas:

A Mass which clearly pushes towards liberalism, like many Novus

Ordo Masses, those you can’t attend.11

December 2016 - Catholic Candle 32 of 38

Page 33: Catholic Candle - St. Marys Kansas · PDF fileCatholic Candle December 2016 ... early years a er Vatican II, this writer and family heard the Tridentine Mass in seven ... is adri is

So, according to this “new” Bishop Williamson, Traditional Catholics can attend onlythose new masses which do not “clearly push towards liberalism”. Of course, the truthis that all new masses are inherently protestantized. ey don’t go “toward” liberalism, because they are already there. ey are inherently liberal.

Let us pray for poor Bishop Williamson! He had done much good in the past andcould yet return to Catholic Tradition and do much good in the future!

Let us also pray for Bishop Auinas, Bishop Faure, and the Dominican priests inAvrillé, France, who work with Bishop Williamson and who keep their heads down, pretending that Bishop Williamson is not repeating and broadening his liberal errorswhich attack the core principles o Traditional Catholicism. By the silence of thosebishops and priests, they are “enablers” of Bishop Williamson’s betrayal of CatholicTradition.

As St. Pius X declared concerning such cowardice:

In our time more than ever before, the chief strength of the wickedlies in the cowardice and weakness of good men. ... All the strength of

Satan’s reign is due to the easy-going weakness of Catholics.12

Addendum: Bishop Williamson’s Money and Power

ere are many reasons why Bishop Williamson’s followers stay loyal to him no matter

how much liberalism he spews. Some, like Fr. Zendejas, agree with his liberalism.13

Other priests fear losing access to holy oils and the Sacrament of Conrmation fortheir ocks.

Many disagree with Bishop Williamson’s liberalism but they are “scared-loyal” becauseof his power.

BRN Associates, Inc.—Bishop Williamson’s Fundraising Juernaut

One of Bishop Williamson’s largest sources of income is a corporation called “BRN14

Associates, Inc.”, a Virginia corporation,15 with a “branch” corporation in

Connecticut.16 He promotes this fundraising corporation on his website.17

BRN Associates rakes in over $600,000 per year.18

Bishop Williamson uses much of the money to bankroll the work of supposedmembers of the Resistance who “toe the Williamson line”. One such person is liberal-

leaning Fr. Zendejas.19

Bishop Williamson’s unconditional followers

Bishop Williamson knows that he has followers all over the world who will believewhatever he teaches, regardless of whether his current teaching is the opposite of whathe used to teach. Some of those followers will attack anyone who continues to holdwhat they themselves held recently (before they followed Bishop Williamson incompletely reversing their position).

One example of such followers is those who follow Bishop Williamson in his complete

reversal about the new mass20 and who now condemn the position they themselveshad held just a year or two ago, before Bishop Williamson reversed course. ey nowattack persons who hold what they themselves recently held, before their reversal.

How can any person in Bishop Williamson’s position resist the intoxicatingtemptation of seeing his followers treat whatever he says as wise and true, even whenhe now contradicts what he recently said?

How (nearly) impossible is it for a person to keep his bearings when he has “gobs” ofmoney, he is treated like a king and a celebrity all around the world and he hasunconditional followers who follow wherever he leads!

is slippery slope is (humanly speaking) irresistible! St. Ignatius of Loyola warns usthat money and worldly honor are the usual way that the devil snares souls:

He has rst to tempt with a longing for riches—as he is accustomedto do in most cases—that men may more easily come to vain honor of

the world, and then to vast pride. So that the rst step shall be that of

riches; the second, that of honor; the third, that of pride.21

We pity Bishop Williamson, facing this satanic attack about which St. Ignatius warns!Bishop Williamson is in such great danger! Let us re-double our prayers for him!
