Funerary ChapelAlexandria, Virginia

Spring 2012Located in Old Town Alexandria, this empty lot at the corner of Prince Street and Daingerfield Road was practically begging to be filled. The nearby emerging stream and cemetery became connected to the metro and King Street with this intermediary chapel of the “lost and found.”

Fall 2011As part of a competition with the National Park Service, the project required extensive site research in groups followed by a four week independent site intervention. I chose to focus on the existing vistors’ center and transform it into an interactive learning environment.

Mixed-Use Housing ComplexGreenville, South Carolina Spring 2011

With a team consisting of two senior students, two local architects, and one contractor, the design process for this mixed-use housing complex was both practical and thoughtful. The structure was required to contain apartments, commercial and retail space, a fitness facility, garage parking, and a non-denominational chapel.

Fall 2010This project was structured as a two week long charette with the main focus being the model. The design was created entirely in model form and drawings were derived from that. Intensive studies on the surrounding area, circulation, and light and wind patterns were performed.

University Greek VillageClemson, South Carolina

Fall 2010Designed in conjunction with Clemson University’s Greek Life administration, this master plan provided on-campus housing for fraternity and sorority members. A multipurpose community center became the focus of the project and provided various meeting spaces, outdoor gathering areas, and a kitchen. Campus location and circulation, needs of current groups, and environmental factors all played a large role in the overall design.

Residential PiazzaGenoa, Italy

Spring 2010Studying abroad in Genoa, Italy required me to look at the architectural world and process in a different way. Our group of three undergraduate students faced the challenge of designing a mid-rise residential structure in a dim and narrow historic piazza. The solution addresses the issues light and air in the site while creating a dynamic ground level for pedestrians.

Asheville Arts CommunityAsheville, North Carolina Fall 2010

In collaboration with a landscape architecture studio, a group of design students entered the Asheville competition, Recycle This Site. As part of the competition and studio design process, the group participated in in-depth site analysis to create a thriving artist community in conjuction with a new branch of The Art Institute on a current brownfield site.
