description

Catherine Labiran is a 19 year old African-American-British Poet who uses her pen as a medium to speak for the silent. Born in Staten Island New York, raised in Harrow, London and now living in Atlanta Georgia, she is able to infuse her diverse cultural experiences into exhilarating bodies of work, enabling them to live lives of their own. A great servant of the sincerity of heart, her poetry is a voice of empowerment— a stream of dire stories stitched together that begin and end in the same sentence, even as the poem continues to live on. Founder of the non-profit XII Talents in England, she is concerned with leaving a legacy that is as alive as any word she has ever spoken, living life one definitive leap at a time.

In 2012 Catherine set up her first non-profit organization named ‘XII’ in which she provided adolescents with free literary workshops and performance opportunities. Her organization advanced through its partnership with Transport for London for their road safety campaign.

Catherine Labiran has taught a series of workshops at Harrow Arts Centre and has hosted events at the location. Her natural ability at penmanship has found welcoming shores in business blogs, and the blogs of respected media outlets such as Virgin Media Pioneers, which focuses on encouraging young entrepreneurs to chase their dreams. Eternally setting sail for new worlds in literature, she inspires others by striving to remain the example.

Johannesburg | South Africa A Brief Respite During the

Word N Sound International Youth Poetry & Live Festival

An activist and defender of humanity, her advocacy for youth

culminated into the founding of the non-profit XII Talents in 2012. Known for creating works that

empower and uplift silent sufferers within society, her soliloquies have soothed souls in locations spanning

three continents. Whether it be instances such as the Women’s

Rights demonstration at Harrow Women’s Centre, or as a voice in

London’s ‘Save The Congo’ Campaign, the appearance of her

words of encouragement in innumerable youth publications,

her actions and words form a synergy that the world most commonly calls ‘the truth’.

A published author, her premier book of poetry, Ayisat is a work of brilliant clarity of mind, arranged with the haphazardness of 3am in the morning creativity. Published by the United Kingdoms based company, Wordjar, the collection’s name is Arabic for ‘she who lives and is well’.

Performing at a benefit for the young homeless at the 14th Street Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia, Catherine Labiran ascends the role of poet by using her gift, eternally, in service of others.
