PREFACE

Dear users,

This is the last edition of the Catalogue of Statistical Publications 2016.

The Catalogue provides information on publications, which the National Statistical Institute (NSI) is going to issue next year.

In 2016 we will continue the tradition of providing our users with printed and electronic publications with the latest statistical data on the demographic, economic and social development of Bulgaria.

Thematically the publications in the Catalogue are structured in three themes: (1) General Statistical Publications; (2) Population and Social Statistics and (3) Economy. The Catalogue presents each publication by title, brief summary of its contents, ISSN number, periodicity, type (printed or electronic), price and publication deadline.

Practical information on how to carry out the subscription and purchase of publications is presented, together with contact information for the NSI.

The NSI’s website (www.nsi.bg) provides access to wide range of up-to-date information about the activity of the NSI and results of the statistical surveys.

The Statistical Yearbook (83rd edition) is the main publication of the National Statistical Institute. It provides domestic and international users with compound information about the demographic, social and economic development of Bulgaria for the 2010 - 2014 period.

Information sources are statistical surveys carried out by the NSI and other offices and institutions being bodies of statistics.

The statistical information presents the country as a whole (General Review) and it is also given at a regional level (Regional Review) according to the administrative division of Bulgaria (28 districts) and to the Classification of the Territorial Units for Statistics in Bulgaria (2 statistical zones and 6 statistical regions).

The Yearbook is designed thematically by chapters and each chapter is preceded by an introductory text with methodological notes.

A chapter containing time series by main indicators about demographic, social and economic development of Bulgaria for the 1990 - 2014 period is presented at the beginning of the General Review.

Along with information about Bulgaria, the Statistical Yearbook also contains an International Review Section with latest data for other countries available at the NSI at the date of preparation of the publication. This data enable users to work outinternational comparative analyses.

Statistics magazine is a specialized scientific-theoretical and applied issue of the National Statistical Institute.

The journal contains information and comments about novelties in statistical theory and practice in Bulgaria and abroad. Special attention is given to the priority problems of the methodology and organization of actual statistical surveys and implementation of new information technologies.

It also presents the experience of other countries and international organizations in area of methodology and organization of statistical surveys.

The publication contains data about demographic, socio-economic, cultural and environmental development of district Sofia (stolitsa). The information was arranged in eighteen thematic sections, each of which contains data as well as short methodological notes and analytical part. Data are presented at district level. Mainly data relate to the 2010 - 2014 period. The analyzes are based on data from official surveys of the NSI and indicate the main factors influencing the structure and dynamics of the studied processes and phenomena in the Sofia (stolitsa) district. Data from other institutions and agencies are used.

New section 'Information Society' has been created in the issue. It includes indicators related to the increasing use of Internet technology in the Sofia (stolitsa) district.

The electronic bilingual (Bulgarian/English) publication ‘Regions, districts and municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria 2014’ is a continuation of the annual NSI electronic publications containing regional data. The publication contains data for the demographic, socio-economic and environmental condition of Bulgaria's regions, districts and municipalities in 2014.

The statistical information is provided at national and regional level. The most important indicators are included in order to outline the specifics of the territorial units. Administrative-territorial units, are presented in accordance with the Territorial Organization Act of the Republic of Bulgaria, and territorial units for statistical purposes - ‘statistical zones’ and ‘statistical regions’ are elaborated according to the Classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS).

The edition contains data from the sample survey of the household budgets in Bulgaria for the 2004 - 2015 period. The survey has been conducted quarterly since 2010. Every quarter are surveyed 3 060 households.

The publication presents the results from the survey of households and their members by socio-demographic characteristics, amount of income by sources, amount of expenditure by purpose, consumption of basic foods, calorie contents of consumed basic foods.

The results are presented in groups by the following characteristics - place of residence of the household, size of the household, number of employed persons in the household, number of children in the household, total annual income per person of the household, presence of pensioners in the household, professional and socio-economic status of the head of the household and deciles groups.

The publication contains data on average prices and purchased quantities of main foods and non-foods by households by years for the 2004 - 2015 period and by quarters for 2015. The used information is obtained from the household budget survey and because of that these average prices differ from the average consumer prices published by the NSI. The purchased quantities foods are computed average per household and the purchased quantities non-food goods - average per 100 households.

There are also data on the purchasing power of households calculated by means of total and monetary income, as well as the changes in the purchased power.

The publication contains average annual data from the Labour Force Survey.It is a sample statistical survey among private households which provides detailed annual and quarterly information on the labour status (employment, unemployment, inactivity) of population aged 15 years and over.

The main definitions used in the survey follow the ILO and Eurostat recommendations.

The issue includes data on basic statistical indicators about enrolments and teaching staff in all types and levels of education - pre-primary, basic and upper- secondary (general and vocational programmes) and tertiary.

The issue presents data about the educational attainment of the population and the educational institutions.

The published information is systematized in two sections: General Review and Regional Review.

The basic methodological concepts in the field of statistics of education are harmonized with the International Standard Classification of Education, revision 2011 (ISCED 2011).

The publication presents the results from the carried out by NSI Structure of Earnings Survey for 2014. The survey is conducted for the forth time, after a four-year interval, according to the Council Regulation No. 530/1999 and Commission Regulations No. 1916/2000 and No.1738/2005.

The issue contains methodological notes, analytical review and summarized survey results on structure and distribution of earnings of employees in October 2014.

Data on number of employees, hourly earnings, monthly earnings and annual earnings by individual characteristics of employees (sex, age, length of service in the enterprise, completed level of education, type of labour contract, mode of employment etc.) and these of their employer (economic activity, size of the enterprise, form of economic and financial control, existence of collective pay agreement) are included.

The publication is a joint edition of the National Statistical Institute and National Centre on Public Health and Analyses at the Ministry of Health. The data sources are the annual statistical surveys carried out by the both institutions and included in the National Statistical Programme.

Data in the publication are systematized as follows:• Population and demographic processes - main demographic indicators, deaths

by causes; • Morbidity of population - incidence and prevalence of some socially significant

diseases; • Health care system resources - health establishments; medical personnel in

health establishments; crèches and others;• Activities of the hospitals.

The edition contains time series with data on previous years. In a territorial aspect the information is presented by districts. Some main demographic indicators are given by municipalities.
