The 9.40 A.M. Ordinary Passenger train from

Glasgow (South Side) to Ayr Road, will call

at Merryton,

The 11.20 A.M. Ordinary Passenger train from

Glasgow (South Side) to Lesmahagow, will

call at Merryton.

A Special Passenger train will leave Merryton

at 5.50 P.M. for Hamiltoft, in connection with

the 6.15 P.M. Ordinary train from Hamilton

to Glasgow (South Side).

In 1875, 'Mary' was First as a Brood-Mare

at the principal Shows in Scotland—Ayr in April,

Glasgow in May, Stirling in June, and at the

Highland Society's Show in August.

' The Lord Harry ' was never beaten. As a

One-Year-Old he was First at Ayr, Glasgow, and

Hamilton ; and at the Highland Society's Show.

As a Two-Year-Old he was First at Glasgow, and

the County Show, Hamilton; and also at the Royal

Society's Show, Birmingham.

gained Prizes. The Heifers are uncommonly

promising ; they were bred by Mr. Drew, with

the exception of No. /, and are expected to calve

CL YDESDALES.

CLYDESDALE HORSES.

In offering the following Brood Mares

and Young Stock, Mr. Drew begs to state

that many of them have stood First in the

show-ring in England and Scotland, as well

as at the Paris Exhibition ; and from the

fact that he intends to devote his attention

less to exhibiting than heretofore, purchasers

may rest assured that the Stock submitted

comprises the choicest animals of his stud,

valuable for breeding purposes, and likely to

take the highest position in the most impor-

tant Agricultural Exhibitions of the country.

Mr. Drew has been much gratified to

learn that out of the 48 animals disposed of

at his last year's sale, 35 have since taken

Prizes.

BROOD MARES.

1 * VIVIA; Six Years.

A remarkably compact little Mare, well adapted

for breeding purposes.

2 ' LAMBERTON,' Four Years.

A Mare of high quality and fine action. In foal

to ' The Prince.'

3 'MYRTLE,' Five Years.

A particularly good Mare;proved an excellent

breeder, being Dam of the fine Filly, No. 51.

4 'JET,' Four Years.

A grand Mare, with good feet and pasterns,

5 ' countess; Six Years.

Sire, " Lofty," that gained the Glasgow Premium

two years for travelHng that district. This

Mare took First Prize as a Four-Year-Old,

for the best Mare or Gelding, at the Royal

Agricultural Society's Show in Liverpool,

1877. Last year she stood First at the

Manchester Horse Show, also at the Royal

Society's Show at Bristol ; and in the same

year gained the First Prize and Cup for the

best of the Horse kind at Kilbride Open Show,

near Glasgow. She was also awarded the

highest Prize in the Aged Mare Class at the

Paris Exhibition, and other First Prizes, too

numerous to mention. In the opinion of the

most eminent judges, this Mare cannot be

excelled, and she never was in better form

than at present.

6 * vesta; Six Years.

This Mare took Second Prize at Hamilton last

year, besides other Prizes, and is confidently

recomraended to breeders or exhibitors.

7 * BARBARA,' Four Years.

Gained First Prize at Paris, besides other Prizes

from the Royal Society of England, and is

likely to achieve more laurels.

8 ' snowdrop; Nine Years.

The style and quality of this Mare adapt

her remarkably well for either breeding or

showing. She is expected in toal to ' The

Prince.'

9 'AGNES; Four Years.

A Mare of great substance, uncommonly good

in bone and hair.

12 BROOD MARES.

10 'SHEBA,' Eight Years.

In 1877, this splendid Mare was awarded First

Prize at Kilbride; the Fifty Guinea Cup for

the best Mare, Gelding, or Filly shown, at

the Royal Agricultural Society's Exhibition

in Liverpool; First Prize at the Highland

Society's Show for Mares in foal ; and in

1878, with Foal at foot, was awarded First

Prize by the last-named Society ; she also

gained First Prize in her Class, and the

Cup for best Mare or Filly in the Show-

yard, at Newcastle. This is a Mare sure

to distinguish herself even in the best com-

pany. Her produce exhibits the special

points of excellence for which she is re-

markable. Expected in foal to 'The Prince.'

A perfect picture ; full of quality, with great

bone and substance, and likely to distinguish

herself in the show-rine.

12 'LORNA,' Five Years.

This is a grand stamp of a Mare on short

legs, with great action, and in good form

for showing purposes.

13 * LUCY,' Four Years.

A Mare of rare excellence, that gained

First Prize at the Paris Exhibition, and is

likely to be equally successful wherever

shown.

14 BROOD MARES.

14 ' princess; Nine Years.

Sire, ' Prince of Wales.' This extraordinary

animal has gained more Cups and other

high -class Prizes than any other Mare of

her class in Scotland. She has very much

improved of late ; and from the excellence

of her present form she can hardly fail to

become even more distinguished as a First

Prize winner. She is in foal to ' Darnley,'

and is Dam of Colt No. 38.

15 ' ROSALIE,' Five Years.

A wide-set Mare, with such good legs, form,

and action, that she must be ranked as

one of the foremost Mares in the Stud.

16 'EUGENIE,' Five Years.

A grand Mare, with good bone and hair, and

well adapted for breeding or showing.

THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES.

Three-Year-Old Fillies.

Sire, ' Warrior,' which gained First Prize at

the Highland Society's Show at Glasgow

in 1875; Dam, Baxter's Prize Mare at Les-

mahagow. This Filly gained several First

Prizes at Lesmahagow and Upper Ward

Shows, besides additional Prizes at the

Highland Society's and other Open Shows.

She is uncommonly promising, and well

worthy the attention of breeders and

exhibitors.

18 'BARONESS.'

Sire, ' Lofty,' that gained the Glasgow premium

two years. This Filly has gained several

First Prizes at Open Shows, is out of the

Grand-dam of ' Countess,' and can be highly

recommended as a useful Mare, either for

breedincr or winnino- Prizes,

This is a wide-set Filly, with grand bone and

hair; of great promise as a breeder of first-

class Stock.

20 'HENRIETTA,'

A handsome Filly, with good legs and fine

action.

A large sized Filly, with excellent legs and

good action.

THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES.

22 ' MARY GRAY.'

Sire, ' Topsman ;' Dam, a Dumbartonshire

Mare. This Filly gained First and Second

Prizes at the principal Open Shows around

Glasgow, and was also First at the Royal

Society's Show at Bristol last year. She is

still improving in the characteristics that

command success in the show ring, and can

hardly fail to become still more distinguished.

Expected in foal.

23 * rosebud;

A Filly of great promise, having all the ap-

pearance of a good breeder, and well worthy

the notice of exhibitors.

24 *LULA.'

A well formed Filly, with excellent bone and

hair.

25 ' BESSIE bell;

Sire, 'Topsman.' This Filly was bred by

Mr. Robert Renwick, Dalmuir. She gained

First Prizes last year at the Hamilton and

Kilbride Open Shows, and is one of the

most valuable Fillies in the stud. Is in

foal to ' Prince of Wales.'

26 ISABELLA.'

The style and quality of this Filly are suffi-

cient to recommend her to purchasers of

first-class Stock.

27 'MARMORA;

A Filly of great size and good action, strong-

boned, and sure to make a good Brood

Mare.

28 *ROWENA.'

A big Filly, with capital legs, feet, and hair.

TIVO- YEAR-OLD FILLIES.

Two-Year-Old Fillies.

29 'DIMPLE.'

A compact, strong-built Filly, of fine quality.

30 'MONA.'

A handsome Filly, full of quality, and shows

good action.

31 ' MATILDA.'

A particularly grand Filly. Gained First

Prize at the Glasgow Autumn Show in

1 8/7 ; also First at the Hamilton Open

Show last year. Has never been beaten,

and is still improving.

32 'REBECCA.'

This is a remarkably fine Filly, which will

commend itself to judges by its many

excellent qualities.

Two-Year-Old Colt.

33 DARK BROWN COLT, Entire.

Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Ruby,' which

(jained First Prize as a Brood- Mare at the

County Show, Hamilton, 1876. This Colt

is own brother to ' Roseberry,' which took

several First Prizes last year, and Second

at this year's Stallion Show in Glasgow, in

a class of about 100 of perhaps the finest

animals ever seen. As will be observed from

the illustration, this is certainly the grandest

Colt ever offered for competition at Merryton.

Gained First Prize last year at Hamilton,

and high anticipations may be entertained

of his future career.

34 'CHARMER,' Four Years.

This Gelding stood First at the Highland

Society's Show in Dumfries last year, and

exhibits so many points of excellence, that

an opportunity is here presented to exhibi-

tors of this class of Stock of acquiring an

animal well qualified to render the name of

his owner famous in connection with

exhibitions of the Agricultural Horse, of

which he may be pronounced the beaic ideal;

and nothing would please the disposer more

than to see him at the Kilburn Show.

35 'RATTLER; Four Years.

A Horse of great improvement ; with good

feet and legs, and splendid action ; well

suited for showing purposes.

36 BROWN COLT, Entire.

Sire, 'Prince of Wales;' Dam, 'Judy.' Sire of

Dam, 'Young Lord Lyon.' This Colt is

remarkable for bone, hair, and substance.


Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, the celebrated

Brood Mare ' London Maggie.' Of the

many Foals she has had, this one excels

them all for strength of bone and quality.

24 ONE-YEAR-OLD COLTS.


Sire, ' Darnley ;' Dam, 'Princess,' No. 14.

' Darnley ' gained the Glasgow Society's

Premium for two years, and the Cup at

the Highland Society's Show at Dumfries

last year, for the best Stallion of all winners.

This is a stylish Colt of great strength, and

being also well bred, cannot fail to become

a noted Stallion.


Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Jemima.' Sire

of Dam, 'Young Lord Lyon.' 'Jemima'

gained First Prize in 1877 as a Two-

Year-Old; was First at the Hamilton Open

Show last year ; and has also gained other

Prizes. This Colt, foaled in June, is certain,

from his good shape and style, to become

a valuable Horse for breeding purposes.

40 DARK BROWN COLT, Entire.

Sire, 'Prince of Wales;' Dam, the well known

'Jessie Brown,' that has proved herself to

be second to no Brood Mare in the Stud,

This Colt, as will be seen from the illus-

tration, excels to such a high degree in

every desirable point, that he is likely to

be the Champion for 1879.


Sire, 'Prince of Wales;' Dam, ' Celia,' a good

Brood Mare. This Colt, foaled in June,

promises uncommonly well, and is sure to

be a orood Horse.

26 ONE-YEAR-OLD COLTS.


Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, * Mailie.' She

was bred by Mr. Andrew Pollock, Muir-

house, and exhibited at all the principal

Shows in Scotland, having always been

placed First as a One, Two, and Three-

Year-Old. The Colt is of great excellence,

showing all the characteristics of both Sire

and Dam.


Sire, 'Prince of Wales;' Dam, 'Young Bella,'

about the best Brood Mare in the stud.

For substance, symmetry, bone, and hair,

this Colt is much admired by good judges.

44 BLACK COLT, Entire.

Sire, 'The Lord Harry;' Dam, 'Ella,' a good

Mare. This Colt was foaled in July, and

is likely to grow Into a good Horse.


Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Bent.' Acompact little Colt, with good legs.

46 BROWN FILLY.

Sire, * Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Boosey,' which

gained Second Prize at Hamilton in I876,

and is the Dam of the celebrated Horse

' Rhoderick Dhu,' that has gained so many

First Prizes, also Dam of the Filly that

took the First Prize at the Agricultural

Society's Show in Glasgow last year. This

Filly has all the good points of both

brother and sister.

28 ONE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES.

47 BROWN FILLY.

Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Diana,' one

of the most valuable Mares in the Stud,

either for breeding or showing. This Filly

is remarkable for its symmetry, and for

other desirable qualities.

48 BLACK FILLY.

Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;

' Dam, ' Topsy.'

Winner of First Prize at the Glasgow

Agricultural Show in the Three-Year-Old

Class. A grand stamp of a Filly.

Prize Mare. This Filly, as illustrated,

shows all the points required for a First

Prize Winner.

50 BLACK FILLY.

Dam, ' Pearl,' a Prize Mare of the right sort.

For substance, bone, and hair, young

* Pearl ' will not be easily got over in the

show-ring.

51 CHESTNUT FILLY.

Sire, 'The Lord Harry;' Dam, 'Myrtle,' No.

3. A handsome Filly, with great bone

and substance.

30 ONE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES.

52 BROWN FILLY.

Sire, * Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Helena,' a

wonderfully good Mare. This is perhaps

the most perfect Filly in the lot.

53 BROWN FILLY.

Sire, ' The Lord Harry ;

' Dam, ' Minnie,'

sister to ' Netty,' Champion Mare of Scot-

land in 1876. A little gem, sure to give

great satisfaction. Foaled in August.

54 BROWN FILLY.

Sire, ' Prince of Wales ;' Dam, ' Bracelet,' a

Prize Mare, with great substance. This

is really a remarkably fine Filly ; so just

and true in all its points, that it cannot

fail to take a pre-eminent position as a

Prize Winner.


b^ BROWN FILLY.

Sire, * Prince of Wales ;' Dam, " Flora,' a

First Prize Winner, sister to * Netty.'

TKere is not a finer Filly than this in the

stud, being full of quality, and exceptionally

good in bone and hair.

The Yearling Colts and Fillies have been bred

with the ut7nost care, and are decidedly stiperior to

any Young Stock yet offered for Sale at Merryton.

No doubt each animal has some distinguishing

characteristic to recommend it ; but all exhibit so

many points of excellence in common, that it must

be left very mtich to purchasers to decide on their

relative degrees of merit.

66 SHETLAND PONY, Entire.

Five Years. Ten hands high, and very

docile.
