The company has about 3,400 employees with total revenue of approximately 1.5 billion euros. CATALOGIC SOFTWARE CUSTOMER SUCCESS STORY

Alliance Partner

During the course of trying to find the right solution, it became apparent that a successful solution has to include a centralized meta-data repository that captures selected information across multiple NetApp FAS units. The solution had to be robust enough to understand that there would be differing versions of firmware/software on the units. On the analysis end, the successful solution needs to produce actionable targeted reports that can be easily monitored, updated, and managed. When taken all together, these challenges pose a formidable set of requirements.

Breakthrough Insight: Catalogic ECX™ & Copy Data Analytics

Visibility and insight are critical to managing any environment, especially for service providers. Catalogic ECX provides detailed insight across ONTAP 7-mode, Clustered ONTAP and Cloud ONTAP environments for all locations in the enterprise and cloud. These analytics begin with an actionable catalog that allows IT to search all of the existing file meta-data, Snapshots, SnapMirrors, and SnapVaults. Additionally, ECX provides storage administrators with over 30 pre-defined reports for file analysis These reports can help IT plan how to better get control of the data in their environment and enable planning for a number of business operations.

The client approached NetApp with their challenges, and NetApp referred them to their partner Catalogic Software. This is a testament to NetApp’s partnering strategy, using their ecosystem to solve problems to ensure the success of their customers. Catalogic Software had a meeting with the client, described our ECX technology, they were intrigued and wanted to move forward

ECX offers a scalable approach to cataloging meta-data from many sources including intelligent storage devices like NetApp FAS devices, no matter the firmware, hypervisors such as VMware vCenter, and cloud infrastructure. The meta-data is indexed and persisted into a NoSQL repository that is then accessible to an analytics and reporting engine as well as REST API. Policy based configurations dictate the behavior and frequency of indexing operations.

Catalogic ECX rand a report that simply executed queries against the NetApp cataloged meta-data, aggregates the query results, and then logs the statistics to one or more files. It is due to the rich nature of the ECX

catalog that Catalogic was able to perform the right analysis of the data and provide them the exact data they were looking for

So much so, the client was impressed and had a special meeting to show to their clients what Catalogic ECX was able to do. Their clients were also very impressed with what the solution was able to offer. The ability for the service provider to properly bill their clients for the storage that they are utilizing at a granular level, and also provide their clients where their data is being stored and who the biggest offenders of storage utilization are, allowing them to be able to provide a service that no one else can.

Going forward, they now have a tool that helps them to not only more accurately bill their customers for capacity being utilized, but also find where the storage is growing and notify their clients. This also helps them to better plan their storage growth and provision storage to the consumers on a more proactive basis. ECX provides service providers with a solution to help them better manage their infrastructure on a proactive basis and that provides great customer service. As the clients IT manager said said, “This product solves a big challenge we were unable to before and helps us be closer with our clients. We are very pleased with the ECX solution.”

Data is more critical to business than ever. Business must leverage their data copies to deliver operational efficiencies, while simultaneously delivering greater business agility. As an innovator, Catalogic Software is committed to helping clients gain operational efficiency and business agility.
