    Dear Student:

    Your interest in my professional Computer Aided Design (CAD) courses is appreciated.

    Over 40 years ago, I recognized the need in Houston for a professional schoolspecializing in this field. I conduct my classes like an engineering department, with eachperson working on their own project, at their own speed. My students are not numbersin a system, but individuals privately tutored who receive my personal attention.

    There will be a constant need for trained CAD operators and designers in the future.When you consider that all of the things that are built or manufactured in Americarequire that drawings be made of them, it adds up to a lot of work to be done. CAD is agreat career choice because it doesn't require years of study to get into, yet it has vastopportunities for personal achievement and improvement if an individual is willing todevelop themselves.

    CAD continues to be an area of growth. Drawings are produced on the computer, andthen sent to print. Productivity continues to increase as the technology is constantlyimproving. The features and capabilities of CAD software get more and moreproductive each year. There is always a steady demand for people with the latest andmost advanced skills. At my school, we always teach the newest techniques, using thelatest versions of AutoCAD and CADWorx software.

    History of theHORN DRAFTING & CAD CENTER

    The Horn Drafting & CAD (Computer Aided Design) Center has its roots in a school opened by RaymondJ. Horn in Birmingham, Alabama in 1958.

    Mr. Horn began teaching a few students Basic and several types of advanced drafting. He was asuccessful engineer who was experienced in structural design, naval architecture, and a number ofdrafting disciplines. He was a good teacher who stressed quality in one's work, and he cared about hisstudent's success.

    In June 1966, a branch school was opened in Houston, Texas as a franchise. The owners included thelate Hal Childers and Dr. H. M. Landrum, a former superintendent of Spring Branch Independent SchoolDistrict. In December of 1967, the Horn family bought the school and in January 1970 Anthony W. Hornbecame sole owner. He is presently in charge of all management and instruction.

    The school has been approved by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas RehabilitationCommission since the inception of the Texas Proprietary School Act in 1972.

    In 1982, the Horn Drafting & CAD Center was Houston's first school to offer Computer Aided Designcourses to the public. The school has used a variety of CAD systems since that time, and it presentlyspecializes in AutoCAD, the most widely used system in the world today. For the piping course, theschool uses CADWorx Plant Professional software, which runs with AutoCAD, and is an advanced pipingsystem used by many engineering firms.

    The classroom consists of 20 computers with 19" color monitors and a computer projection system in thefront of the classroom for student demonstrations. Also, each student has a computer desk and acomfortable operator's chair. The students receive high quality instruction since their instructor can give

    each of them long-term individual attention.We continue to teach the same kinds of information we used to use in manual drafting. The differencenow is we do it all on computers. This gives the students all the technical knowledge they got in the past,plus valuable practice time running AutoCAD.

    Our CAD courses continue to be revised to correspond to the latest techniques available usingcomputers. The Basic and Advanced courses are copyrighted texts written by Anthony W. Horn and areexclusive to this school or Mr. Horn's corporate clients. The Piping course is a new video based trainingcourse recently developed by Anthony Horn, and is being sold world-wide through COADEs internationaldealer channel (COADE is the company that writes CADWorx Plant Pro software). This course, which weuse to train our piping students, is the same materials that are used professional piping designers atvarious engineering firms. So the materials in use at the school are of top quality and contain the latestinformation and procedures.

    In October 2009 the school moved to its new location at 3100 Wilcrest Drive, Suite 120, Houston, TX77042.

    FACILITIES

    The Horn Drafting & CAD Center is located at 3100 Wilcrest, Suite 120, Houston, TX 77042.

    The classroom consists of 20 workstations with high speed computers and large 19-inch monitors. Thereis a computer projection system available for demonstrations and instructor led training. Each student hasa computer desk and a comfortable computer operator's chair. We are careful to use a standard AutoCADconfiguration, so the way we teach our students will be very similar to how they will find things to be in theworkplace.

    We also run CADWorx Plant Pro software for the Pipe Drafting course. This allows students to getexperience with a top of the line professional piping system during their studies.

    STAFF

    The Horn Drafting & CAD Center is kept to a small size so that one person, Anthony W. Horn, caneffectively do all the teaching and also manage the school. He is the sole owner.

    His educational background includes college degrees in both engineering and architecture. He has eitherworked or had specialized training for manual and/or computer aided design in the following fields:

    Anthony W. Horn has been active in the Design/Engineering community in Houston since 1968. Hisschool, HORN DRAFTING & CAD CENTER, has trained and placed in employment over 3,500 draftersand CAD operators in all types of disciplines during the last 40 years.

    Mr. Horn personally teaches all students in their various drafting and CAD courses. He also does trainingfor ECAD, Inc., an authorized AutoCAD dealer in Houston. He trains corporate personnel for the petro-chemical industry in all phases of CAD operations and programming.

    Mr. Horn was a contributing author for McGraw Hill's CAD/CAM HANDBOOK in 1985. In 1996 he wrotethe chapter titled Three Dimensional Modeling of Piping Systems for the book which has become astandard text book on piping design called Pipe Drafting and Design, published by Gulf Coast PublishingCompany.

    Anthony W. Horn authored and recorded the Mastering CADWorx Plant Pro Software video trainingcourse which is certified by COADE, Inc. and being sold through their international dealer channel.COADE is the company that developed the CADWorx software. The video training course is currently inuse at the Horn Drafting & CAD Center as well as COADE dealers worldwide to train piping designers fortheir engineering corporate clients.

    Horn Drafting & CAD Center requires an enrollment deposit of $100 for all students. This deposit will becredited to your tuition when you take the first class. A workbook is required for CAD100 and the cost is

    $50.00.If you register for a class and are unable to take it, the deposit is refundable if we are notified within 72hours after you have signed the enrollment contract. If we are not notified within that time frame, thedeposit is non-refundable. In the event your training is postponed, the deposit will either be refunded, oryou can apply it toward the next available class.

    Admiss ion Requirements

    Students seeking admission to the Horn Drafting & CAD Center must have completed a high school

    education or have a G.E.D equivalency diploma. Students must also visit the school and meet Mr. Horn.Since we have very limited room, we sometimes can't take every applicant. This interview allows us todetermine the best candidates available for our classes.

    Students who have previous drafting or CAD training will be given credit for their previous work. If youhave completed a course in drafting within the past three years in college or high school, you can receivecredit for the BASIC DRAFTING course. Training beyond that can earn credit here and the amount will bedetermined in the interview and decided by Mr. Horn. His decision will be based on his many years ofexperience in training and working with all levels and types of students

    HORN DRAFTING & CAD CENTERCancellation and Refund Policy

    CANCELLATION POLICYA full refund will be made to any student who cancels the enrollment contract within 72 hours (untilmidnight of the third day excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays) after the enrollment contractis signed and a tour of the facilities and inspection of the equipment is made by the prospective student.

    REFUND POLICY1. Refund computations will be based on scheduled clock hours of class attendance through the last

    date of attendance. Leaves of absence, suspensions, and school holidays will not be counted as part of the scheduled class attendance.

    2. The effective date of termination for refund purposes will be the earliest of the following:(a) The last day of attendance, if the student is terminated by the school;(b) The date of receipt of written notice from the student; or(c) Ten school days following the last date of attendance.

    3. If tuition and fees are collected in advance of entrance, and if after expiration of the 72 hourcancellation privilege the student does not enter school, not more than $100 shall be retrained bythe school.

    4. If the student who enters a residence or synchronous distance education course of not more than12 months in length terminates or withdraws after the expiration of the 72 hour cancellation

    privilege, the school may retain $100 of the tuition and fees and the minimum refund of theremaining tuition and fees will be:(a) During the first week or one-tenth of the course, whichever is less, 90 percent of the

    remaining tuition and fees;(b) After the first week or one-tenth of the course, whichever isles, but within the first three

    weeks or one-fifth of the course, whichever is less, 80 percent of the remaining tuition

    and fees;(c) After the first three weeks or one-fifth of the course, whichever isles, but within the first

    quarter of the course, 75 percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(d) During the second quarter of the course, 50 percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(e) During the third quarter of the course, 10 percent of the remaining tuition and fees; or(f) During the last quarter of the course, the student may be considered obligated for the full

    tuition and fees.

    5. The student will not be required to purchase instructional supplies, books and tools until suchtime as these materials are required. Once these materials are purchased, no refund will be made.

    6. For residence or synchronous distance education courses more than 12 months in length, the

    refund shall be applied for each 12 month period paid, or part thereof, separately.

    7. The length of the course for purposes of calculating refunds owed, is the shortest scheduled time period in which the course may be completed by continuous attendance of a full-time student;

    8. A full refund of all tuition and fees is due and refundable in each of the following cases:(a) An enrollee is not accepted by the school;

    (b) If the course of instruction is discontinued by the school and this prevents the studentfrom completing the course; or

    (c) If the students enrollment was procured as a result of any misrepresentation inadvertising, promotional materials of the school, or representations by the owner orrepresentatives of the school.

    9. REFUND POLICY FOR STUDENTS CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE.A student of the school or college who withdraws from the school or college as a result of thestudent being called to active duty in a military service of the United States or the Texas NationalGuard may elect one of the following options for each program in which the student is enrolled:(a) if tuition and fees are collected in advance of the withdrawal, a pro rata refund of any

    tuition, fees, or other charges owed by the student for the portion of the program thestudent does not complete following withdrawal;

    (b) a grade of incomplete with the designation withdrawn-military for the courses in the program, other than courses for which the student has previously received a grade on thestudents transcript, and the right to re-enroll in the program, or a substantially equivalent

    program if that program is no longer available, not later than the first anniversary of thedate the student is discharged from active military duty without payment of additionaltuition, fees, or other charges for the program other than any previously unpaid balance ofthe original tuition, fees, and charges for books for the program; or

    (c) the assignment of an appropriate final grade or credit for the courses in the program, butonly if the instructor or instructors of the program determine that the student has:

    (1) satisfactorily completed at least 90 percent of the required coursework for the program; and

    (2) demonstrated sufficient master of the program material to receive credit forcompleting the program.

    10. Refunds will be totally consummated within 60 days after the effective date of termination.

    Computer Aided Drafting/Design isconstantly evolving. As the softwareand hardware capabilities improve,we continue to modify the coursetopics to evolve with the software.

    There are numerous CAD systems onthe market today. The most widelyused system is called AutoCAD,which is what we teach. We alwayshave the latest versions available fortraining, and the student will learn thetypes of skills and activities they canexpect to encounter when they go towork as a professional drafter. Thecourse covers fundamental, intermediate, and advanced topics. It is called an Operator's Course,because it includes the types of commands one needs to know to operate AutoCAD in a typicalprofessional setting.

    The goal of the course is to train students so that when they are given a drawing and told to "put this into AutoCAD", they will be able to draw it, edit it, annotate it, and print it.

    Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED

    The BASIC DRAFTING course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of drafting. Students willlearn how drawings are presented, how views should be set up and proper dimensioning practices. Thelast lesson involves a combination of drawing types and includes 3D views. Students may be able toobtain employment as a beginning drafter; however, further training may be necessary.

    Prerequisite: AutoCAD Operator's Course (or equivalent).

    Objective: Completion is a prerequisite for further specialized training at Horn Drafting.

    Houston is the world center forpetrochemical plant design.

    Because of this, there is always astrong need for qualified pipe andinstrumentation designers. Asplants grow older, they areconstantly being upgraded andmodified to become moreefficient. Also, newer controlsystems are being developed toincrease process efficiency, andplants are regularly beingmodified to make them more

    productive. All of this requires drawings to be made and a large industry of plant design specialists hasdeveloped in the Houston area throughout the years.

    This course teaches the fundamentals of pipe drafting. The first section introduces the student to Pipingand Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), a type of drawing widely used in the industry.

    Following that, the student will produce a series of drawings representative of those done in the industry.The course starts out with a 2D piping drawing, and then you are introduced to 3D piping. An Isometricdrawing is created, and from there the student goes through extensive 3D modeling. Drawings areextracted from the model, and these are then printed out and are good examples to show to prospectiveemployers during job interviews. In creating these piping models and drawings, students make use of

    AutoCAD and also an add-on piping package called CADWorx Plant Professional, by COADE, Inc. Thissystem is considered by many to be the industry leading software for AutoCAD based piping design in theworld.

    Prerequisite: Basic Drafting and AutoCAD Operator's Course

    Objective: Employability as a drafter in this field.

    Structural drafting involves the drawing anddetailing of structural shapes (beams, angle

    irons, channels, etc.) and connections. Itmay be drawing of buildings, chemical plantstructures or bridges. Because Houston hasso man petrochemical plants, roadconstruction projects and numerousbuilding projects, this type of drafting hasalways had a steady demand for drafters.

    The student will learn the drawings neededfor drawing the beams, columns andconnections of a two-story office building, adrawing of a welded piping skid that istypically found in chemical plants in thearea, and how to detail both welded andbolted connections.

    Upon completion, the student will have a working knowledge of the A.I.S.C. Manual (the standard forsteel construction) and some of the standards used in structural detailing. These drawings are goodexamples of working drawings encountered every day in the industry. They are top quality portfoliodrawings that will serve the student well during job interviews.

    Prerequisite: Basic Drafting and the AutoCAD Operator's Course.

    The vast majority of productsmanufactured involve somemechanical drafting. Houston hasalways been a center for this type of

    drafting because of the large oil toolindustry, as well as all the othertypes of manufacturers in the area.Of all the courses one could chooseas a specialty, Mechanical Draftingis one of the best selectionsbecause of its local demand and itsbroad use across the nation. Aperson can go practically anywherein the United States and find workas a mechanical drafter.

    This course teaches Machine Detail Drafting using CAD. Students will learn about standard machineshop practices. Students do detail drawings of specific parts, assemblies of parts and section views. Theylearn proper dimensioning techniques including tolerance dimensioning using the Machinery's Handbook.One new feature we've added is using Autodesks' new DESIGNER Software program in the secondlesson. This is a state of the art 3D modeling program that is excellent for mechanical CAD operators.

    The Houston area has alwaysprovided a steady demand forelectrical drafters. People that are

    trained this field will work forengineering firms which designchemical plants; architectural firmsthat design buildings; ormanufacturers who produceproducts that include electricalsystems. This broad area of work isalso in demand nationwide soindividuals trained in electricaldrafting can go anywhere in thecountry and find work. The work isinteresting and widely used and it isan excellent field for a careerchoice.

    This course covers industrial type problems. Students first draw up a sheet of electrical symbols andstandard circuits. Then they draw a layout of an office building and calculate the lighting loads for thefacility. They then draw the lighting and place all the outlets for the offices. Following that is a schematicdrawing of the offices. The student will also learn about the wiring for a motor control center, a type ofinstallation commonly found in petrochemical plants. It involves a one-line diagram of the center, a cableschedule and an elevation view of the installation.

    Upon completion, the student will have a working knowledge of basic electrical schematics and designprocedures for industrial projects. The drawings are also excellent work samples for a professionalportfolio.

    Objective: Employability as a drafter in this field.

    Course Descriptio n

    The Architectural Drafting course is a course in residential construction drawings. Architectural drafterstake sketches furnished by architects, engineers or clients and prepare the finished construction drawings

    for them. This course is presented as a real project to the student in a way that is similar to the way oneworks on an actual job assignment. The student is given a client's floor plan sketch and he (or she)makes the finished drawings from the client's ideas. The teacher also acts as the client and guides thestudent as needed through the drawing and design process.

    This set of drawing familiarizes the student with a standard set of house plans. The set consists of a floorplan, foundation plan, kitchen cabinet details, wall section, window and door schedules, elevationdrawings, and site plan.

    This course serves as the initial step for someone to pursue a career in architecture as an architect,designer, drafter or someone who uses CAD to do their work in this field. Upon completion, the studentwill have a high quality set of working drawings for use during their job interviews.

    Prerequisite: Basic Drafting and AutoCAD Operator's Course

    Objective: Employability as a drafter in this field.

    When a company buys a CAD system, they generally adapt it over time to suit their specific needs andapplications. They build custom symbol libraries, and write special programs (or macros) whichautomatically draw parts they use in their drawings routinely. In the Advanced CAD course the studentwill learn how to customize AutoCAD using the LISP programming language, to expand it beyond thebasic package.

    This course raises a student's working knowledge of AutoCAD up to a new level of sophistication. It is anexcellent course for those who want to add to their value to employers, and enhance their jobopportunities.

    Prerequisite: AutoCAD Operator's Course

    Objective: Achieving AutoCAD LISP programming skills.

    Minimum Satisfactory Progress

    Students must maintain satisfactory progress. The clock hours for each course are the projectedmaximum hours needed to complete the lesson assignments of the course.

    For short courses, like the AutoCAD Operators Course and the AutoCAD Programmers Course,students must have a passing grade at the end of the course to obtain a certificate.

    For the Basic Drafting and Advanced Courses (Architectural, Electrical, Structural, Piping, andMechanical Drafting), students are graded at the midpoint of the course. Those not making satisfactoryprogress shall be put on academic probation. If the student doesn't improve their progress by the end ofthe allowed clock hours they will be terminated.

    The Commercial Drafting course will be handled as a group of separate course (AutoCAD Operator'sCourse, Basic Drafting, and two Advanced Drafting courses) as far as satisfactory progress is evaluated.In each course, the progress will be evaluated as stated in the previous paragraph.

    Absences

    Students will be terminated when they have missed more than 25% of the total clock hours in a course.

    Leaves of Absence

    There are no leaves of absence available for the AutoCAD Operator's Course and the AutoCADProgrammer's Course.

    For Basic Drafting, and the Advanced courses (Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Piping, andStructural), the school will grant one leave of absence for up to 30 calendar days.

    Conduct

    Students must maintain good conduct. Unruly conduct will be grounds for dismissal. Students dropped forpoor conduct cannot apply for re-admission.

    Withdrawals

    Students may voluntarily withdraw at any time (see Refund Policy for how refunds are handled).

    Grades

    Students will receive a grade at the midpoint of a course that is longer than 31 clock hours, and a finalcourse grade. In the two short courses offered here (The AutoCAD Operators Course CAD100, andThe AutoCAD Programmers Course CAD200) students will receive a grade at the end of the course.

    The school does not issue incomplete grades. An assignment must be finished in order to receive agrade.

    Placement

    The school does offer limited placement assistance. When the school receives a job call, Mr. Horn quicklymatches a graduate to the job opening. He looks at the student's graduation date, his type of training, andwhere he lives. He tells the student about the job and, if needed, will counsel the student on what toexpect in the interview. Because of our size and limited time resources, we don't have a placement officerworking the phones trying to place people. We do make sure all job calls get coordinated promptly,however. Historically, employment in this field for Horn school graduates has averaged from 70% to 80%over the past 30 years.

    CANCELLATION POLICYA full refund will be made to any student who cancels the enrollment contract within 72 hours (until midnight of the third day excludingSaturdays, Sundays and legal holidays) after the enrollment contract is signed and a tour of the facilities and inspection of the equipmentis made by the prospective student.

    REFUND POLICY2. Refund computations will be based on scheduled clock hours of class attendance through the last date of attendance. Leaves

    of absence, suspensions, and school holidays will not be counted as part of the scheduled class attendance.

    2. The effective date of termination for refund purposes will be the earliest of the following:(a) The last day of attendance, if the student is terminated by the school;(b) The date of receipt of written notice from the student; or(c) Ten school days following the last date of attendance.

    3. If tuition and fees are collected in advance of entrance, and if after expiration of the 72 hour cancellation privilege the studentdoes not enter school, not more than $100 shall be retrained by the school.

    4. If the student who enters a residence or synchronous distance education course of not more than 12 months in lengthterminates or withdraws after the expiration of the 72 hour cancellation privilege, the school may retain $100 of the tuition andfees and the minimum refund of the remaining tuition and fees will be:(a) During the first week or one-tenth of the course, whichever is less, 90 percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(b) After the first week or one-tenth of the course, whichever isles, but within the first three weeks or one-fifth of the

    course, whichever is less, 80 percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(c) After the first three weeks or one-fifth of the course, whichever isles, but within the first quarter of the course, 75

    percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(d) During the second quarter of the course, 50 percent of the remaining tuition and fees;(e) During the third quarter of the course, 10 percent of the remaining tuition and fees; or(f) During the last quarter of the course, the student may be considered obligated for the full tuition and fees.

    5. The student will not be required to purchase instructional supplies, books and tools until such time as these materials arerequired. Once these materials are purchased, no refund will be made.

    6. For residence or synchronous distance education courses more than 12 months in length, the refund shall be applied for each12 month period paid, or part thereof, separately.

    7. The length of the course for purposes of calculating refunds owed, is the shortest scheduled time period in which the coursemay be completed by continuous attendance of a full-time student;

    8. A full refund of all tuition and fees is due and refundable in each of the following cases:(a) An enrollee is not accepted by the school; (b) If the course of instruction is discontinued by the school and this prevents the student from completing the course;

    or(c) If the students enrollment was procured as a result of any misrepresentation in advertising, promotional materials

    of the school, or representations by the owner or representatives of the school.

    9. REFUND POLICY FOR STUDENTS CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE.A student of the school or college who withdraws from the school or college as a result of the student being called to activeduty in a military service of the United States or the Texas National Guard may elect one of the following options for each

    program in which the student is enrolled:(a) if tuition and fees are collected in advance of the withdrawal, a pro rata refund of any tuition, fees, or other charges

    owed by the student for the portion of the program the student does not complete following withdrawal;(b) a grade of incomplete with the designation withdrawn-military for the courses in the program, other than courses

    for which the student has previously received a grade on the students transcript, and the right to re-enroll in the program, or a substantially equivalent program if that program is no longer available, not later than the firstanniversary of the date the student is discharged from active military duty without payment of additional tuition,fees, or other charges for the program other than any previously unpaid balance of the original tuition, fees, andcharges for books for the program; or

    (c) the assignment of an appropriate final grade or credit for the courses in the program, but only if the instructor orinstructors of the program determine that the student has: (1) satisfactorily completed at least 90 percent of the required coursework for the program; and(2) demonstrated sufficient master of the program material to receive credit for completing the program.

    10. Refunds will be totally consummated within 60 days after the effective date of termination.
