1944 Luxury Tax Receipt - FWT15 - 25c WAR TAX + FX15 - $2 excise tax.There didn’t seem to be specfic forms to collect this 25% Luxury Tax, so

merchants used bank deposit slips, note books, etc. to record these sales and collect the tax. Interestingly the signet ring featured on this receipt required $2.50 in tax, however only $2.25 in revenue stamps was affixed. Even the tax auditor didn’t catch it - he applied his “cancelled” and crown cancel without any further

notation - $25 (±US$20)

QL15 - 10c Law stamp used to pay the required fee for a summons.The original unpaid $5.76 note with very attractive Justice with scales

engraving is attached at the top of the document. Affixing the unpaid note to the document was common practice.

We are lucky when the 2 are still attached and undamaged like this one. I am showing the document as it was shown in the last collector’s collection.
