TORINO…

Turin

TORINO

once thought of as a purely industrial town, has been

recently rediscovered, thanks to major events that have reached the headlines around the world: from the 2006 Winter Olympics to the fencing World Championship, the Chess Olympics, the European Diving Championship and the important film festivals to museums of international relevance; think of the Egyptian Museum, the National Cinema Museum, and the Automobile Museum, passing from the prestigious Agnelli Art Gallery, and many others ... and how can we forget the opening of the magnificent Royal Palace of Venaria with its garden, a restoration work of European relevance turned into a laboratory of ideas from exhibitions to gardens, restoration schools and workshops of various kinds.

is a city to discover, to experience and it's hard not to fall in love with it at

first glance ... the romantic landscapes dotted with parks and green areas, the two rivers crossing the city, the elegance of buildings in the center and the famous works of contemporary architecture (the famous Lingotto by Bolla Renzo Piano, the Palafuksas at Porta Palazzo, the new Porta Susa railway station and the many bold new buildings that are sprouting in the corners of the city, often mistakenly neglected).

The town's symbol is the Mole, a bold construction started almost as a challenge, where the fabulous National Museum of Cinema is located, with its precious collections and magical atmosphere, recalling memories and emotions at each step to every visitor...

Then again ... city full of magic, places linked to stories and particular personages, the home of good food and chocolate; who doesn't know the renowned Gianduiotto.

Come and discover the Food Fair, the gluttonous world of Eataly, the innovations of the International Book Fair, the fabulous music of MiTo, or the area around Turin that offers breathtaking scenery, from the Alps with its ski resorts to the castles that dominate towns and villages, from the most peculiar traditions to the special, local products, now known around the world...

awaits you ... and will surprise you with its many hidden

faces; the unique friendliness and elegance will make your stay an unforgettable experience

Roman Turin and Medieval Turin

TORINO Baroque

The Baroque Churches

Turin Liberty

TURIN, Religion and the “Social Saints”

TURIN and the Savoy residences

Two itineraries to explore the city's deepest roots. The vestiges of those times take us all the way back and allows us to understand the birth and rise of the city before the advent of Baroque and of the Savoy dynasty.

An exciting tour of the city to discover the wonders of the baroque Piedmont. The Carignano Palace and its majestic facade, the extraordinary church of San Lorenzo and the dome by Guarini are only some examples of what you can enjoy in a journey both curious and fascinating from proto-baroque by Vittozzi to the late Baroque by Vittone.

Great examples of Turin's Baroque of the seventeenth and eighteenth century are testimony of important moments in the history of our city. From San Lorenzo to San Filippo Neri, Santa Cristina and San Carlo, the Church of Visitation and Santa Teresa.

Take a journey to discover the town of the early twentieth century when floral motifs and symbolisms started to appear as architectural decorations. Turin's “'Art Nouveau'' through the gates of “Barriera Francia” and the “Crocetta”.

Discover Turin and the religious landmarks that permeate the cultural fabric of today, its thousands churches of different styles, the synagogue, the Waldesians temple. Add to the itinerary a tour to discover the so-called ''Social Saints” of Turin origin: Don Giovanni Bosco and the Salesian structures, Beato Cottolengo and the immense shelter work for the poor and disadvantaged which has now become a hospital of great renown, and the ''gallows priest”, Giuseppe Cafasso, who became the patron saint of prisoners and those sentenced to death.

An itinerary between the Savoy residences and houses of vacation and hunting: the imposing Palace of Venaria, surrounded by its spectacular park, the Castello di Rivoli and its famous Museum of Contemporary Art, the Stupinigi hunting cottage and its rich frescoes, the Castello del Valentino and the romantic view of the river Po, Madame Palace, now Civic Museum of Antic Art and the Royal Palace, where to this day you can feel the history of Turin and of the whole Italy.

Magics Turin (R)

The Mystery of Turin (R)

Turin Underground (R)

Built at the confluence of two rivers, the Po and the Dora, and placed at the top of two triangles, the white magic and the black magic triangles, Turin has been proud of an esoteric tradition for centuries. An intriguing and curious path of disturbing characters, Masonic enigmas and esoteric symbols comes to life through the mystery of the gates of Hell, the spectral dragoon, the legend of the alchemy caves, culminating in the veiled woman holding the cup of the Holy Grail, under the watchful eye of the most famous ghosts.

A century of crimes and unsolved mysteries is the scenario for Turin mystery, intrigue, startling facts and sensational crime chronicles. From the nineteenth century to today, a mystery charade that goes from the studies of Lombroso to the enigma of Diabolik, the famous murder at Via della Zecca, the macabre quiz “Bela Rinin'' against the backdrop of the city of “Deep Red”, with admittance to an exclusive evening at the “new” Prisons”.

An exciting journey underground to discover the “City of downstairs” which so often in history has rescued and given shelter to the inhabitants of the “upstairs” The path descends to 15 meters deep, to visit the ancient underground of the historical center, the military tunnels of the eighteenth century, the air raid shelters and royal ice boxes at Porta Palazzo. A journey into the past that time, seems to have crystallized forever. (Since the tour includes visits to particular places, sometimes a little uneven and not easily practicable, at the departure you will be requested to sign a disclaimer of Warranties and Liability)

The Sacro Monte di Varallo It was built through the initiative of the Blessed Bernardino Caimi who wanted a small replica of the significant places of Palestine. Other influential personalities of the time participated to the project, including S. Carlo Borromeo. The complex consists of about 50 buildings, decorated with magnificent frescoes and groups of statues by important and well-known artists (including Gaudenzio Ferrari). The Sacro Monte di Oropa Consists of 17 chapels full of terracotta statues. It was built in opposition to the Protestant “reform” between 1620 and 1720 through the Alps as protection from the Lutheran threat coming from the north. The idea that inspired building the Oropa chapels arose, in part from climate of the Counter Reformation and from the effects of the pastoral activities undertaken by Carlo Borromeo.
