CAT specialise in special finishes tocompliment interior designs.Choose from traditional decor finishes tomodern finishes.Special finishes are available on a range ofselected flooring profiles throughout thecatalogue.

Special finishes on Brass profiles

Antique Bronze is a chemically appliedfinish to brass profiles to create an agedeffect. This is a hand-finished process andwill vary from batch to batch.

Lighter in shade than Antique Bronze,Antique Brass is chemically applied andthen relieved to give a softer effect thanpolished brass. This is a hand finishedprocess and will vary from batch to batch.

Satin Nisheen, more subtle in appearancethan Bright Chrome. Nisheen is CAT’sfinish when a duller effect is preferred.

Bright Chrome plating is applied to brassprofiles to produce a superb modern finish,Often selected as an alternative finish tostainless steel.

Please note: Finishes are not solid metalsand consideration should be given whenselection takes place to suitability ofproduct.

Technical Information on Curved Profiles

A successful product installation is largelyreliant upon the accuracy of information and‘if required’ the quality of template supplied.

When placing an order for curved profiles it isimportant to provide information for allaspects of the work including floor coveringsbeing laid and the condition of the sub floor towhich profiles will be fitted. If there are twodifferent floor coverings adjoining it should bepointed out whether they are level or there isa height difference.

Profiles are formed using traditional fabricationprocesses and computer aided equipment. Thismix of knowledge and technology means we canoffer an unparalleled service for specialist trimsto the flooring trade.

It is important to note ‘the more level the subfloor and adjoining floorings the better the resultwill be’.

It is possible to form ramp trims, howeverprofiles of a flatter design lend themselves betterto fabrication.

How to Order

For profiles with a specified radiusit is possible to produce curvesfrom plans once linear meterage is confirmed by the customer, to a maximum radius of 10metres, over this dimensiontemplates are required.

For curves not of a specific radiushardboard templates should be accompanied by a sketchindicating how trims will be fitted.

Please allow 25% for material wastage in the curving press. Curves aresupplied oversize for trimming onsite.

On occasions a project will arise thatrequires a special product and in thissituation CAT is here to help you.With our extensive knowledge of solvingproblems CAT can offer a full range ofsolutions for your project.

Special Stainless Steel 20mm ramp,150mm long in a brushed finish

To enable us to produce a special productwe would need as much information aspossible, including quantity, finish, specialdrilling and a detailed diagram of what youwish to achieve. Information regardingfloorcoverings and how the product is tobe used will also help the design process.

SSE Brushed curved to a radius

Depending on what type of special productis required will determine ourmanufacturing process. If the productrequired is a complex aluminium sectionthen you would need to allow 10-12working weeks typically, if however yourequire a more simplistic design then aleadtime of approximately 10 days wouldbe necessary, depending on the quantityrequired. These timescales are indicativeand would be confirmed at the time ofordering.

Tiger Eyes is a range of decorativeilluminated floor trims and nosings thatallow the creation of attractive illuminationbetween ceramics, carpets, woods, vinylsand other floors.

Typical installations include nightclubs,cruise liners, hotel and retail environmentswhere areas require illuminating orhighlighting.

The CAT Tiger Eye 12v system comprises of: a lens cap, PVC carrier, LED lights and floorprofile carrier. Easy to install, profile supplied drilled and countersunk for mechanical fixing,remove tape from base of black pvc carrier and stick to channel in profile. Lay the LED stripsinto the black pvc carrier and clip the lens cover into the pvc carrier.

POWER SUPPLY

When connecting the LED lights to the transformer we recommend you use a qualifiedelectrician.

The spacing options are available on all profiles. We would suggest the use of 300mm spacing for floors and 150mm spacing for nosings.

Description

CAT nosings are manufactured to the highest qualityspecification in brass, aluminium and now available in specialfinishes

A selection of nosings have serrated tread details and otherswith PVC inserts in a variety of colours.

Selection

Choose from nosings in various thicknesses and shapes toaccommodate different step edges and floor finishes.

Certain nosings are designed with a diminished edge forinstallation with hard floorings including vinyl, terrazzo, wood, etc.

Installation

It is highly advisable when fitting stair nosings to use screw fixings and a suitable cartridgeadhesive, after ensuring that treads and risers are in good order.

Nosings with PVC inserts can be suppliedpre-infilled with plugs to concealscrewheads

Alternatively you can specify CAT Retrofit

system which eliminates the need for plugs

Refer to pages 5.3 for more informationregarding infill colours

A drop of adhesive isrequired to secure plugsin place.

Nosings with ribbed brass treads can besupplied with smooth plugs to concealscrewheads.

Alternatively nosings can be supplieddrilled flush for brass screws.

To raise the height of nosings to accommodate thicker floor coverings suitable packingstrips of correct gauge can be used, ensuring a good bond is maintained with suitablecartridge adhesive and mechanical fixings.

STAIR NOSINGS — TECHNICAL INFORMATION

5.1

Measuring

Steps should be measured and numberedfrom the top of the staircase to the bottom,indicating flights and landings for thecutting and installation plan.

For curved steps please refer to stairnosing fabrication section for advice ontemplating on page 5.2

Supply

Stair nosings can be cut to customers sizesor supplied oversize (by 30mm) if specified,for cutting on site.

Maintenance

Brass nosings are produced with a highlypolished finish, regular cleaning with asuitable metal polish and soft cloth isadvised to maintain their finish,alternatively nosings can be left to ageoxidize for a natural finish.Avoid water and all forms of moisture withbrass nosings.

Aluminium ribbed tread sections which arepolished aluminium can be maintainedwith a metal polish. Anodised and satinnosings should be cleaned with a milddetergent and warm water but must betotally dried immediately after cleaning.

PVC inserts should be cleaned with a milddetergent diluted with water on a damp -not wet - cloth, ensuring that inserts arewiped dry before staircase is open totraffic.

POLISHES AND INDUSTRIAL CLEANING

Description

A fabrication service is availablefor the curving and shaping of aselection of nosings subject tostep shape.

Also available are mitred andwelded returns and capped endsfor a neat finish to the end ofnosings on open string staircases(see page 5.11).

When ordering curved nosings ahardboard or stiff card template isrequired to work from for eachcurved step.

It is important to contact our sales office for the suitability of sections for curving.

Curves and mitres of chrome nosings are subject to availability.

Instructions

How to Take a Template

Step edge should be free from existing floor covering.

Where required step edge should be made good with repairs beforetemplate is taken.

Offer card on top of stair tread and with a marker pen draw around curve on underside of card at stair edge.

Ensuring that line is uniform cut alongmark, then offer shaped card to step and make any adjustments as required.

All curved nosings are supplied oversize for trimming on site.

The maximum length of a curved nosing in one piece is 3.2 metres.

Cleaning

Infills should be cleaned with a mild detergent, diluted with water on a damp, not wet, clothensuring that infills are completely dry before staircase is open to foot traffic.

Avoid contact with stair nosing carrier.

For a neat, concealed fixing finish specifyRetro Fit when selecting CAT stair nosings withPVC infills.

Nosings are supplied cut to size, predrilled forcountersunk screw fixings. On site, havingsecured nosings to treads with screws andcartridge adhesive, simply peel away protectivecover from adhesive carrier tape and insert infillcolour of choice applying pressure to ensure agood bond, along entire width of tread.

Infills are supplied 50mm oversize with cutnosings.

Infill plugs the alternative method of fixinginfilled nosings to stairs.

Nosings are supplied pre infilled and affixed withscrews and cartridge adhesive to treads. Havingfixed screws a dab of adhesive is applied with amatch (or similar) to heads and plugs gentlytapped home.

Choose from either textured or ribbed finish infillsin a variety of colours to contrast or compliment alltypes of floorings.

Installation

Fix eyes into tread and riser directly alongside edge of carpet runner, leaving a gap ofapproximately 1/8” (3mm). Use rawl plugs for mechanical fixings into concrete stairs anddirect screw fix into timber on wooden staircases, except when ring eyes are fitted and rawlplugs are advised to accept threaded taper fixing. Always use wooden gripper with stair rods.

When installing top fix eyes for fully fitted carpets exercise caution when fixing throughcarpet.

Stair rods are produced in 12mm diameter hollow tube 1 metre in length and are suitablefor stairs with carpet runners to 900mm (36”) in width.

How to Measure for Stair Rods

Measure the full width of carpet runner and add a minimum of 100mm including finials togive finished rod length, subject to maximum available width of staircase. Cut rod to sizewith a hacksaw, being careful to cut evenly and clean burred edges with emery clothallowing finial to be inserted.

To increase tightness of finial in tube turn nut on thread to expand rubber bung.

Stair eyes should be fixed directly alongside edge of runner. Use rawl plugs formechanical fixings into concrete stair and direct screw fix into timber (having drilled pilot hole first) on wooden stair.

For rods with carpet runners, measure the full width of the runner and add a minimum of 100mm for10mm, 12mm and 16mm turned rods and 150mm for rods with large finials having given considerationto available staircase width.

For rods with full width carpets using top fix eyes, measure stairs full width and deduct a suitableamount to create best effect. Always number stairs from top down to bottom.

FROM THE NORTH – Total distance from junction 12 to CAT – 5miles

Exit from the M1 at junction 12 Toddington services, turn immediately right over the motorway, thentake the first turning on your left (the B579) towards Chalton and Luton.

Stay on the road for a distance of just under 1.5 miles, at the T junction turn left on the B579signposted Chalton and Luton, continuing past the Fancott Public House.

After approximately one mile you will be entering the village of Chalton with the Star Public Houseon your left hand side. Continue up the hill, as you proceed over the motorway bridge at the apex ofthe hill, turn left into Sundon Road signposted Sundon and Streatly.

Continue over the railway bridge, proceed through the small village and down the hill, with fields toleft and right of you.

At the foot of the hill on the bend turn right, signposted Luton Industrial Estates (you are now onSundon Park Road).

Exit from the M1 at junction 11 and turn right, back under the motorway, on Dunstable Road.Continue along Dunstable Road until the traffic lights with the Leicester Arms on your right handside, turn immediately left into Humberstone Road.

At the end of Humberstone Road proceed over the roundabout into Oakley Road, past Electrolux.

When you see the sign for the Sugar Loaf Public House on your right hand side, take the right handlane at the lights.

Turn right into High Street. Proceed along into Grange Avenue until you see signpost for B579 toToddington, at traffic lights turn left before railway bridge into Toddington Road.
