MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY

Australian Army

Trooper S from the SASFor acts of gallantry in action in hazardous circumstances in Afghanistan as part ofthe Special Operations Task Group during Operation SLIPPER, Oruzgan Province,Afghanistan.

On 2 September 2008 Trooper S demonstrated conspicuous gallantry by knowinglyand selflessly exposing himself to sustained effective enemy fire in order to protect aseverely wounded Australian soldier. During this action he not only providedadvanced first aid but continued to effectively engage the enemy. In doing so healmost certainly prevented the wounded soldier sustaining further injuries andultimately saved his life.
