    1 Castles of Grief

Castrum Doloris (Latin forCastle of grief) is a name for thestructure and decorations sheltering or accompanying thecatafalque or bier that signifies the prestige or high estate of thedeceased. A Castrum Doloris might feature an elaboratebaldachin and would include candles, possibly flowers, and inmost cases coats of arms, epitaphs and possibly allegoricalstatues. Many extensive castra doloris can be traced to thecustoms of 17th century and 18th century or even earlier, since

Pope Sixtus V's funeral arrangements included a castrumdoloris in the mid-14th Century.

    2 An uncontrolled immersion heater

Early in the beautiful morning of the 30th

of April 1986 theSwabian mechanical engineer Henry Gearloose sharpened hisscythe and started mowing the grass bed along his house.Scything the grass at springtime unfolds myriads of tinglingherbal scents ripened in the sun and exploding into the air bythe blow of the swinging blade. At the first cutting movesHenry smelled the intensive odors reminding him of alpinemountains in summertime.

It was going to be a nice sunny day and Henry took hisgathered haystacks with his bare arms to carry them to hisdustbin at the backside of his garden. As soon as he had pickedup the hay he felt an irritating prickling of the grass on hisarms. It just felt like a honeymoon palsy, but he just consideredthe possibility of an allergic reaction, which would have to becured as soon as he would finish his job.

Later he observed the appearance of strange red pimples on hisskin which were to vanish within a few days. As a mechanicalengineer Henry guessed the grass blades were defendingthemselves against the mower and his scythe by unfoldingallergic substances, but as soon as he had opened thenewspaper he supposed his body must have been detectingnuclear radiation, resulting in the irritating prickles in his arms.

In classical theory the human body will only provide us withfive senses. The traditional five senses are sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste, a classification attributed to Aristotle.

Humans are considered to have at least five additional sensesthat include: nociception (pain); equilibrioception (balance);proprioception and kinaesthesia (joint motion and

acceleration); sense of time; thermoception (temperaturedifferences); and possibly an additional weak magnetoception(direction). Now Henry considered to add another type ofsensor to this list: the human sensor fornuclear radiation.

The pervading secrecy of the responsible authorities led tostrange rumors in the newspapers and television. Of course themain responsible party, the Soviet government, ignored all

accusations and reported a minor breakdown of an electric power plant. German authorities gave out warnings not toconsume any crops from the fields exposed to rain. Mostpeople felt misinformed, but the truth seemed seemed to beelusive. Nobody had any equipment for detecting hazards andfamilies started buying hundreds of bottles of uncontaminatedwater...

From rumors Henry learned the minor breakdown must haveoccurred at a nuclear reactor in a rather unknown area calledChernobyl, where an explosion might have spread an amountof nuclear material called Cesium-137. The accident had takenplace the 26th of April 1986 but it had been presented as aminor incident. Now the reporters described the problem as anuclear catastrophe, caused by operator negligence inconducting an unscheduled, dangerous experiment on the

reactor, combined with an improper shutdown system leadingto a power excursion that subsequently caused a meltdown, completely disturbing reactor block #4. This however had notbeen the first of a series of severe breakdowns.

    9

    10/24

Block #1 had been completed in 1977 and within a couple ofyears, on September 1st, 1982 an operator error destroyed acentral fuel bundle through overheating.

A vast output of nuclear material caused considerable exposureof the Prypiat-area to nuclear radiation. A number of laborersreceived a massive exposure to high levels of nuclear radiation.

Block #2 had been completed 1978. On 11 October 1991 ahydrogen explosion caused fire in the turbine hall. The roofpartially collapsed and caused considerable damage to one ofthe generators. The operators managed to halt the systemmanually and saved the area from exposure to nuclearradiation.

Basically the four nuclear reactors of the Chernobyl plant arenot more than simple immersion heaters feeding conventionalsteam turbines for electric generators.

A complex series of development errors, sloppiness, bad

documentation, ignorance and secrecy resulted in a catastropheof 1986. Large volumes of nuclear debris were allowed toescape into the atmosphere. Especially the volatile isotopesIodine-131 and Cesium-137 mutated to hazardous aerosols tobe spread by clouds over thousands of kilometers around theworld, where they disappeared as raindrops in the topsoil.

Somehow the half-life for Cesium-137 (30 years) correspondsmore or less to the half-life of human beings, whichaccentuates the harmful affect of exposure for human beings. These nucleotides probably had been causing skin disorder ofthe 45-year old engineer.

From the very beginning of the incident to the end of 1987 theSoviet administration ordered 200.000 laborers as liquidatorsto clear the area of debris.

    11/24

Around 1000 of these victims received the severe up to deadlydoses of nuclear radiation between 2 and 20 Gray, but theyluckily managed to cap the damaged reactor and created an

    improvisatory sarcophagus.

On the inside of the catafalque the catastrophe has beenconserved in a heated state. Around 150-180 tons of theoriginal 190 tons of nuclear material have been enclosed asmolten core elements, in which uranium, plutonium, graphiteashes, dust and sand have been mixed to a gigantic elephantfoot.

Chernobyl has been the most important nuclearenvironmentalcatastrophe, comparable with the nuclear incident at the plantof Majak 1957. These kinds of sarcophagi1 are the flesh-consuming Castles of Grief which still have to be built as amonument for the peaceful application of nuclear energy. The new protective monument has been designed to be 257meters long, 150 meters wide and reaches an altitude of 108

meters. The order to build this structure has been committed tothe ConsortiumNovarka at the 17th of September 2007. It willbe erected at a distance of 200 meters and then be shifted overthe old sarcophagus.

Whenever you are making hay and you are feelingstitches into your arms or legs, you are wisely advisedto immediately take your loved ones and take cover in

your cellar with a large amount of bottled drinkingwater, as one of these antediluvian immersion heatersmay once again have had a minor breakdown....

1The word "sarcophagus" comes from the Greek sarx meaning "flesh",and phagein meaning "to eat", hence sarkophagus means "flesh-eating".

3 From Oil Spell to Oil Spill2

A few weeks ago the platform was a relatively new, massive

floating, dynamically positioned platform that had beendesigned to operate in waters up to 8,000 feet (2,400 m) deepand drill down to 30,000 feet (9,100 m). Still this high-technology full of highly paid skilled workers initiated anenvironmental catastrophe by erroneous decisions of greedymanagement.

During March and early April, several platform workers and

supervisors already expressed concerns with well control. Atapproximately 9:45 pm CDT on April 20, high pressurizedmethane gas shot all the way up from the well and out of thedrill column, expanded towards the platform, and then ignitedand exploded. Fire engulfed the platform. Most of the workerswere evacuated by lifeboats or were airlifted out by helicopter, but eleven workers were never found despite a three-day CoastGuard search operation, and are presumed to have died in the

    explosion.

Efforts by multiple ships to douse the flames wereunsuccessful. After burning furiously for approximately 36hours, the platform sank on the morning of April 22. As aresult, the drilling riser running from the wellhead on the oceanfloor up to the oil rig had been cut off, but of course theautomatic shutdown device was thought to be protecting the

    system from environmental catastrophes...

On April 23, a ROV reportedly found no oil leaking from thesunken rig and no oil flowing from the well. The Coast Guard Rear Admiral expressed cautious optimism of zero

environmental impact, stating that no oil was emanating fromeither the wellhead or the broken pipes and that oil spilled fromthe explosion and sinking was being contained.

The following day, April 24, the admiral however announcedthat a damaged wellhead was indeed leaking oil into the Gulfand described it as "a very serious spill".

The oil company has not given a cause for the explosion.According to the US-Congressional investigation the rig'sblowout preventer, a fail-safe device fitted at the base of thewell, had a hydraulic leak and a failed battery, and thereforefailed. Investigations have focused on the cementing procedureand the blowout preventer, which failed to fully engage.

A number of significant problems have been identified with theblowout preventer: there was a leak in the hydraulic system

that provides power to the shear rams. The underwater controlpanel had been disconnected from the bore ram, and insteadconnected to a test hydraulic ram.

The blowout preventer schematic drawings, do not correspondto the structure that is on the ocean bottom. The shear rams arenot designed to function on the joints where the drill pipes arescrewed together or on tools that are passed through the

blowout preventer during well construction. The explosion mayhave severed the communication line between the rig and thesub-surface blowout preventer control unit such that theblowout preventer would have never received the instruction toengage.

    14

  • 8/9/2019 Castles of Grief (Castra Doloris Chapter 1-6)

    15/24

Before the backup dead man's switch could engage, communications, power and hydraulic lines must all besevered, but it is possible hydraulic lines were intact after the

    explosion.

Of the two control pods for the deadman switch, the one thathas been inspected so far had a dead battery. An employee toldthe BBC on June 21 that a leak was spotted on a crucial pieceof equipment in the oil rig's blowout preventer weeks beforethe accident, and that responsible departments have beeninformed by email about it.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is investigatingthe incident. In a statement made in June they noted that in anumber of cases leading up to the explosion, the oil companyappears to have chosen riskier procedures to save time ormoney, sometimes against the advice of its staff or contractors.

Whenever I see one of these massive floating, dynamicallypositioned drilling rigs I cannot help to consider these tools as

hazardous toys in the hands of irresponsible engineers on theirway to destroying this planet earth.

The Deepwater Horizon catastrophe may becomparable to the Ixtoc I oil spill, which has beenspilling approximately the same amount of oil for 10months in 1980 as compared to the Deepwater Horizonin 2 months. The Deepwater Horizon catastrophe will

probably follow the same procedure and scenario as hasbeen used in theIxtoc Ioil spill3.

3 The history of the Ixtoc I oil spill has been documented in details in

4 The wolf's den in the swamps

Whenever you plan to get to the hearth of something you areadvised to search for the mausoleum or the erectedsarcophagus. You are not going to find anything worthwhile inthe cradle. Instead mankind buries its epitomes and monsters incastles of grief, where the idea's essences condensate todeceased remains in agaseous state of matter.

Normally a mausoleum will be planned during the lifetime of a

mighty man as an impressive monument for his importance andpower. Inside the sarcophagus the flesh is transformed intomethane gas, black liquids, some white bones and yellow teeth, releasing evil spirits in the dark forests and nebulous swamps. This is the wolf's den in the swamps, which is still being visitedby sinister individuals. Any sensitive soul may even hear theirsilent howling from inside the catacombs....

The wolf's den had been designed as a improvisatory camp tobe used for merely 6 months. These calculations had to bebased upon the concept of a 4 week campaign to reach theenemy's capital city within a month. Of course the calculationand the design soon proved to be illusory. The camp soon hadto be expanded at intervals of weeks and months.

The soldiers erected the wolf's den in a sacred and 100 yearsold oak forest located in the swamps, where the inhabitants

were soon to be tortured by the mosquitoes. That's why theyridiculed the location as the Mosquito's Home, where MasterWolf relaxed by leading his German Shepherd Dog4Blondieover a 2m high wooden log for training.

Of the remaining three and a half years of the campaign MisterWolf was to vegetate for more than 800 nights at this lonelysite. He left the den at the sound of nearby gun fire.

On November 20th, 1944 the all-time Greatest General leaveshis secret bunker by a special train heading westward. GeneralK. orders to destroy the Wolf's den with 10-12 tons of TNT.Two days later the Russian troops enter the Rastenburg area onJanuary 27th, 1945, where they need 10 years to deactivateapproximately 54.000 mines. In 1959 the location has beenopened as Masuria's attraction for 200.000 tourists.

The main buildings are 25-60 Meters long, 25-40 Meter wideand 9-12 Meter high. Allied forces knew the exact location ofthe Wolf's den, but they never ordered a bomb attack.

The ceilings had been designed to withstand any conventional bombing of those days and we may wonder what kind ofpsyche feels safe in an isolated bunker protected by 8 meters ofsolid concrete. The front had been designed more solid than the

rear and the remains look likePotemkin villages.

The guards for the Wolf's den were not too effective and atleast three intruders were reported. In August 1943 a Polishwoman managed to enter the area from the east and walk alongthe railroad tracks to the other end of the camp. She was takeninto custody on the western boundaries of the area.

The Rastenburg swamps are still discharging methane gases, discharging in the will-o'-the-wisp of the deceased flickeringat the location where the greatest campaign of all times hasbeen planned.

    5 The mausoleum of segregation

The first century of our time a mosquito-contaminated hill atthe outskirts of ancient Rome at the west-bank of the Tiberriver was located across the Marsfield covered with publicbuildings. Caligula decided to raise a circus at the hill and Neroadditionally erected a palace and a bridge to cross the river.

The legend teaches us how Simon Peter has been crucified top-down and buried at Caligula's circus at the autumn of the year

    64. In honor of this sacred location Constantine the Greatdecided to build a church at this burial place.

One of the bridge-builders considered the 1200 years oldbasilica at a mosquito-contaminated hill as a non-representativemonument for his own grave and in the end ordered to build acomplete new mausoleum. On April18th, 1506 the first stonemarked the foundation of a new mausoleum at the storagelocation for the most valuable reliquary: the legendary Veil ofVeronica orSudarium5.

The monumental building had to be paid by a Peter's penceand the increased volume of indulgences to be sold to the people. These indulgences however caused a massiveopposition resulting in the reformation movement, which didsplit the Church into 1,25 billions of Catholics and 600millions of protestants. For this catastrophe the newly created

mausoleum may really be named the mausoleum of dissidence.

St. Peter's is famous as a place of pilgrimage, for its liturgicalfunctions and for its historical associations. It is associated withthe papacy, with the Counter-reformation and with numerousartists, most significantly Michelangelo.

    properly termed apapal basilica.

The Basilica of St. Peter is one of four papal basilicas or majorbasilicas of Rome the others being the Basilica of St. JohnLateran, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Paul outside the Walls. It is the most prominent building in the Vatican City. Its domeis a dominant feature of the skyline of Rome. Probably thelargest church in Christianity, it covers an area of 2.3 hectares

    6 The Temple of Corruption

The rich Temple of the Peace Palace6

, situated in The Hague, Netherlands, is often called the seat of international lawbecause it houses the International Court of Justice.

In 1903 Andrew Carnegie (18351919) agreed to donate theUS$1.5 million needed for a Peace Temple that would housethe PCA7 as well as to endow it with a library of internationallaw.

The beautiful Palace is filled with many marvelous gifts of thedifferent nations who attended the Second Hague Conference8as a sign of their support. Among the gifts are a 3.2-tonne vasefrom Russia, doors from Belgium, marble from Italy, a fountainfrom Denmark, wall carpets from Japan, the clock for the clocktower from Switzerland, Persian rugs from Iran and wood fromIndonesia and the United States of America. The palace alsofeatures a number of statues, busts and portraits of prominentpeace campaigners from around the world and of all eras.

Only a few visitors however realize the money for the buildinghas been earned by poor laborers working under the worst possible conditions such as a 84 hours week for thephilanthropistAndrew Carnegie.

Born as a child of a poor weaver Carnegiebecame one of the

most famous leaders of industry of the late 19th and early 20thcenturies. He had little or no experience at all in manufacturingsteel, but he was an expert in gifts of money, that alter thebehavior of the recipient.

In the History of the Great American Fortunes Gustavus Myersdescribes exactly how the Great American Fortunes have beenmade: by an endless chain of illegal manipulations, such as

bribery, blackmail, etc. Myers merely needs to quote the US-American law-protocols to document the methods applied in alleras up to publication date. There is no doubt the System didcontinue business as usual after publication.

Myers' work has been ignored anyway as the Gustavus MyersCenter for the Study of Bigotry9 and Human Rights closed in2009, demonstrating the power of American power-players:

In 2009 we take pride in 25 years of continuousoperation of the Gustavus Myers Center for the Studyof Bigotry and Human Rights! We are saddened, however, that the Myers Center has closed down dueto lack of funds.

Often the big players preferred to gift a minimal portion of the

stolen money to some noble institution such as the PeacePalace or other institutes selected for the quality of goodpropaganda.

In fact the methods described sound extremely modern. Thereis a lot of investment-money being shifted to and fro. Myers'books also document how public property may easily be stolenby buying property (railroads, water systems, etc.), plundering

the values and reselling the worthless skeletons back to thegovernment.

9 A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her ownopinions and prejudices.

To me the Peace Palace, paid by money earned from corrupted business methods documented by Gustavus Myers, is justanother symptom of corruption and should be renamed to

Temple of Corruption to remind the people of the basicmethods with which great fortunes are earned.
