Welcome to Vyborg Castle!

Can you imagine visiting a place where knights lived and fought? Well, that`s exactly what happened at Vyborg Castle which dates back to medieval times. The castle is located in Vyborg, Russia. It was built by Torkel Knutsson, the Swedish king in 1293. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake. It was used for protection from enemies.

The castle very well served its residents as it defended them from their enemies during four hundred years. The Vyborg Castle was damaged by the troops of Peter the Great in 1710.The castle was restored and adapted for offices in 1891-1894. There was arranged a viewing platform on the tower where you can see the beauty of the city.

History

The castle and its tower play a leading role in the city`s landscape. Unfortunately, not much remained in its interior from the medieval times. A military museum was opened in one of the rooms of the castle. It was named after Peter I, who was the conqueror of Vyborg. After the Civil War, the castle became the property of the Finnish state.
